September is National Preparedness Month: Week 4

Week 4 September 20-26: Talk to Your Kids about Emergency Preparedness

Emergencies can happen at any time.

Does your family know how to get in touch with each other if you are not all together?

Before an emergency happens, have a family discussion to determine who would be your out-of-state point of contact, and where you would meet away from your home – both in the neighborhood and within your town. Set up a family communication plan. Download family communication plan template.

Help your kids learn how to communicate during an emergency by reviewing these topics with them.

  1. Sending emergency text messages.
  2. Memorizing emergency contact numbers.
  3. Dialing 911.

Disasters don’t wait. Neither should you. Make a plan with your family today.
