Q2 Property Tax Payments Now Due

The Montclair Tax Office reminds property owners that second-quarter tax payments are due May 1 with a 10-day grace period. By state law, payments received after the grace period will be charged interest back to the statutory due date, May 1. Postmarks are not accepted. Post-dated checks are not accepted.

Interest & Penalties

Interest of 8% is charged up to $1,500 and 18% for more than $1,500 delinquency until taxes are paid current. If not paid by December 31, a penalty of 6% is charged on any delinquency more than $10,000.

The Montclair Municipal Building remains closed to the public until further notice

  • In-person bill payments are no longer accepted at the Township.

  • There are fees associated with paying your bill online when using credit or debit cards. User convenience fees on debit and credit card payments are 2.95% of your total bill. Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express cards are accepted for payment.

  • PLEASE NOTE: the Township encourages people to pay their bills online and has eliminated the e-check $1.05 online transaction fee. To pay your tax bill online, visit: wipp.edmundsassoc.com/Wipp/?wippid=0713.

  • CHECK PAYMENTS may be dropped off into the box located outside towards the front of the building, next to the US Postal Service mailbox.

  • All checks must be in an envelope clearly noting the payment should go to the Tax Office.

  • The canceled check will be your receipt.

When paying by mail, please send a check with the appropriate payment stub. The canceled check will be your receipt. If you need a receipt mailed back to you, send your check with the entire tax bill and a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

To avoid having your check returned due to errors, causing a delay that may cause interest charged for late payments, follow these instructions:

  • Make checks payable to Township of Montclair, NJ.
  • Make sure that the written amount matches the numerical amount.
  • Make sure that the check is signed.
  • Place block and lot numbers or the account number in the memo section of the check.
  • Date the check with the same date you are writing the check. No postdated checks will be accepted.
