MFD Responds to Llwellyn Rd Fire

The Montclair Fire Department responded to a call reporting a house fire on Llewellyn Road on Tuesday, May 14 at 12:41 a.m. Units arrived to find heavy fire venting out of the third floor side windows and called for a second alarm response.

Building residents were awakened by the smell of smoke and evacuated prior to the arrival of firefighters.

The third floor sustained heavy fire damage. There was smoke and water damage to the basement, first and second floors. Substantial overhaul was necessary to ensure the fire was extinguished in all walls and voids.

Units from East Orange, Orange, Bloomfield, Clifton, and West Orange helped to bring the fire under control. Units from Caldwell, Cedar grove, Belleville covered the Township.

Two firefighters sustained injuries; there were no reported civilian injuries.

The fire was brought under control in under an hour. The last units cleared the scene at 4:57 a.m. Cause of the fire was an electrical wiring malfunction.
