MFD Responds to Gordonhurst Ave Fire

The Montclair Fire Department (MFD) responded to a call on Thursday, February 17 from a resident of Gordonhurst Avenue reporting fire and smoke coming from a neighbor’s house and that the home’s two residents could possibly be inside.

MFD units arrived to find heavy fire and smoke issuing from the third floor of the house. MFD members entered the house and removed the residents with assistance from the Montclair Police.

MFD units then made their way to the third floor and extinguished the fire. There was heavy fire and smoke damage to the third floor, and smoke and water damage to the floors below.

Units from Clifton, Bloomfield and West Orange helped bring the fire under control while units from Cedar Grove, Orange and Verona covered the Township for the duration of the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. There was one reported minor MFD injury, no reported civilian injuries. The last units cleared the scene at 8:02 p.m.
