Monday, March 23, 2020

Below please find important information from Essex County Clerk Christopher J. Durkin.

Montclair will hold an election for Mayor and Council on May 12, 2020. The election will be conducted through an all mail-in ballot election.

The Governor issued Executive Order 105, which will now govern the May 12, 2020 elections. See attached.

All registered voters, including inactive voters (those voters whose Sample Ballots have been returned to the County as undeliverable) will be mailed a Vote-by-Mail Ballot.

In order to allow candidates enough time to campaign, and to also allow for enough time for the voter to receive the ballot, vote the ballot, and return the ballot; the County Clerk’s Office will commence the mailing of Vote-by-Mail Ballots on April 21, 2020. This will allow 29 days from today for candidates to connect with voters the best way they see fit under this very serious health crises.

In an effort to minimize the Council and public exposure to COVID-19 and to maintain social distancing practices, the March 24 Township Council meeting will available to the public remotely only.

The meeting will be available for viewing on Montclair TV34 (Comcast and Verizon channels 34) and on the
TV34 YouTube channel.

Comments from the public on the second reading of ordinances, as well as the Public Comment portion of the meeting, will be conducted remotely. Those who wish to participate should dial in to 425- 535-9484 at the start of a meeting.

Participants will be put in a queue. The administrator will notify callers using the last two digits of their phone numbers which will be displayed in the system. For example, a caller with the phone number 937-555-5555 will hear the administrator say "number 5-5" it is your turn to speak. The caller will then hear the word "UNMUTE" and will be offered the opportunity to make his or her comment.

Moving forward and until the pandemic is over, public meetings will be conducted in this manner.
