Community Development Block Grants

Montclair Township typically receives approximately $300,000 annually in HUD’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.  These funds are largely used for capital projects within eligible areas of the Township. Some of the funds are available to non-profit organizations whose projects benefit primarily persons of low and moderate income such as substance abuse counseling and youth programs.

2020 Community Development Block Grant

Draft applications for federal funds under HUD’s 2020 Community Development Block Grant program are available from the Montclair Township Department of Planning and Community Development.  The draft application can be used for planning purposes only as Essex County is initiating an online application that will be available shortly.

A link to the Essex County Five-Year Consolidated Plan and census data is provided to assist in the preparation of  applications. 

Completed applications are due in the Montclair Planning Department by noon on Friday, November 22. 

A public hearing for the 2020 application cycle has been scheduled by the Township Council for Tuesday, December 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber in the Municipal Building, 205 Claremont Avenue, Montclair, New Jersey, to solicit public comment.  Applicants requesting $10,000 or more in funding must present their request at the public hearing.  Those interested in addressing the Council as to how and where the grant money should be allocated are encouraged to attend.
