Everytown for Gun Safety has designated the week of August 26 - 30 as our first annual SMART Week - a community-wide effort for everyone - gun owners and non-gun owners alike. 

Our focus is on spreading awareness of the importance of secure gun storage to prevent tragedies that can happen when children access unsecured, loaded firearms. Our children and teachers are heading back to school. and studies show that secure gun storage is the most effective action that all adults can take to keep kids, classrooms, and communities safe.  

We hope you can join us for a special virtual event on Wednesday, August 28, at 7:30 p.m. The program will feature Abbey Clemens, Sandy Hook survivor, teacher, and founder of Teachers Unify To End Gun Violence.  Abbey will focus on how teachers are unifying to keep your children and themselves safe from gun violence.  

Lorraine Lombardi, Essex County Be SMART Co-lead, will present our Be SMART community presentation which promotes secure gun storage through five simple steps as a means to prevent kids under 18 from accessing guns.
