Theft  

February 1, 2024 (Bloomfield Avenue): Employees at Ascend reported that an individual attempted to purchase two 3.5-gram packages of marijuana using Apple Pay.  When he was advised that Ascend does not accept Apple Pay, the suspect grabbed the two packages and fled the store, last seen west on Bloomfield Avenue towards Glenridge Avenue.  He was described as a white male wearing a black jacket and grey hooded sweatshirt. 

Burglary / Attempted Burglary   

February 3, 2024 (Porter Place): The resident reported that his home was burglarized and his vehicle was stolen.  Entry into the home was gained through a first-floor front window.  Two suspects made entry into the home and located the keys to a 2021 Cadillac Escalade.  The suspects were described as a dark-skinned male, wearing a black ski mask, black hooded sweatshirt (small white emblem in corner), black sweatpants (small white emblem on pant leg), black shoes and gloves.  The second suspect was a dark-skinned male, wearing black hat (possibly Calvin Klein brand), black ski mask, black jacket with multiple white stripes going down both sleeves, black pants, dark in color sneakers, gloves, and is observed holding a crowbar.  There were no other reported proceeds. 

January 4, 2024 (Ward Place):  The resident reported that her home surveillance captured two individuals attempting to enter her home.  Surveillance shows that the incident occurred at approximately 4:00 AM.  Two individuals were seen attempting to gain entry through a first-floor window.  The suspects were unable to enter the home and left the property.    

Criminal Mischief 

January 31, 2024 (Valley Road): The complainant reported that an unknown individual smeared feces all over the driver’s side window and driver’s side door handle of her vehicle.  In addition, there appeared to be a long scratch on the driver’s side of her car.   The vehicle was parked legally at the time of the incident.  There is no suspect description.   

MV Crime 

February 3, 2024 Inwood Avenue: The resident entered his vehicle at 6:00 AM and discovered that it had been entered overnight.  A bag containing Pickleball paddles and sneakers was stolen.

MV Crime

February 14, 2024 (Lloyd Road): The complainant reported that her Chevrolet work van was entered. The suspects used an unknown tool to shatter a passenger side window. The suspects reportedly stole approximately $1000.00 in tools.

February 17, 2024 (Mission Street): The complainant reported that her vehicle was entered sometime between 3:30 PM and 5:00 PM. The suspects made entry by shattering a front passenger side window. She reported a diaper bag that contained several credit cards was stolen. Approximately $2000.00 in unauthorized charges were made on her cards at various locations in Clifton, Nutley, and New York City.

Theft

February 15, 2024 (Hawthorne Place): The complainant reported that a package that had been delivered to her apartment was stolen from a common area. The package contained food products.

Assault

February 17, 2024 (Seymour Street): The victim reported that she was assaulted while attending a concert at The Wellmont Theater. She added that a dispute occurred between she and another female concert attendee after the suspect accused her of stepping on her shoes. The suspect reportedly poured a drink of the victim, pulled her hair, scratched her neck, and possibly bit one of her fingers prior to pushing her to the ground. The victim was treated at Mountainside Hospital for her injuries.

Arrests

February 18, 2024 (Bloomfield Avenue): The manager at Bareburger reported that an intoxicated male entered the restaurant and began harassing paying customers. When asked to leave, the male caused a disturbance but ultimately left. Prior to leaving, the suspect stole a steak knife from a restaurant table. Officers located the suspect, a 33-year-old male from Montclair, and charged him with theft and disorderly conduct. The knife was recovered.

February 18, 2024 (Glenridge Avenue): Emergency Medical Technicians from Montclair Ambulance Unit reported that they were tending to a patient on a medical call on Glenridge Avenue. They were approached by a suspect who began interfering with their duties. The suspect was yelling at the patient Montclair EMS was attempting to assist and demanding the patient turn over cigarettes to him. The EMT’s repeatedly asked the suspect to leave the area. The suspect allegedly put his right hand on one EMT’s left shoulder and said, “Do you want me to smack you” while simultaneously raising his right hand to show such gesture. He then fled the scene. Officers located the suspect, a 33-year-old male from Montclair, and charged him with Aggravated Assault and Terroristic Threats.

February 19, 2024 (Bloomfield Avenue): A 20-year-old female from Brentwood, NY was charged with shoplifting after leaving the CVS Pharmacy with over $200.00 in unpaid merchandise.

Theft

February 21, 2024 (Claremont Avenue): The resident reported that he received a notification that a package had been delivered to his front door. The package was reportedly signed for however was missing from the porch. The package contained approximately $600 in merchandise.

Attempted Burglary

February 23, 2024 (Overlook Road): The resident reported that while he was making his morning coffee, he looked out of his kitchen window and observed a male with a thin build wearing a black track suit attempting to open the back door to his neighbor’s house. He observed three males in total. The caller stated that all three suspects were wearing black cloth masks and could not provide any further description. The suspects were unable to make entry at which time all suspects fled to an awaiting black Audi which was parked on Overlook Road. The black Audi was last seen traveling west on Overlook Road and out of sight. The suspects were possibly attempting to get to an Audi S7 that was parked in the neighbor’s driveway.

Dispute

February 24, 2024 (Pine Street): The victim reported that he was involved in a verbal dispute that turned physical with another male in the lower level of the Bay Street Parking Deck. At one point, the victim was struck in the head with a chair. The victim was treated at Mountainside Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

MV Crime

February 27, 2024 (Madison Avenue): The victim reported that she was supervising work being conducted on a Madison Avenue property. When she returned to her vehicle, she discovered the passenger side front window had been shattered. Miscellaneous work equipment was reportedly stolen.

Criminal Mischief

February 27, 2024 (Upper Mountain Avenue): Code Enforcement Officers reported that they were checking on a vacant property on Upper Mountain Avenue. Code Enforcement reported that they observed that the rear door on the first floor was open. The structure had been heavily vandalized and appears to have had juveniles visiting it. Many of the exterior windows at the rear of the property were broken out. Several doors were damaged as well. Empty beer cans were located throughout the residence and the interior had further signs of intentional damage. There was an open rear window that appeared to have been smashed out that will have to be bordered up.

Motor Vehicle Crime

February 28, 2024 (North Willow Street): The complainant reported that he started his 2013 Volkswagen Passat and it began making a strange sound. He took the vehicle to his mechanic and learned his catalytic converter had been stolen. He believes the theft occurred between 8:00 PM and 9:000 AM. March 1, 2024 (Clinton Avenue): The complainant reported that three of his workers had their backpacks stolen from inside of his pickup truck. The backpacks reportedly contained approximately $2500.00 total.

March 3, 2024 (Montclair Avenue): The resident reported observing two males in ski masks exit a silver Kia and run up to her vehicle (2014 Porsche Cayenne) which was parked in her driveway. The vehicle was locked, and entry was unsuccessful. The suspects then attempted the caller’s neighbor’s vehicle (2022 Audi Q5) which was also locked. The suspects fled in the Kia Sportage, which was reported stolen out of Newark.

March 5, 2024 (Union Street): The victim reported that her Jeep Wrangler was entered while parked on Union Street. An unknown object was used to shatter a rear window. A dog grooming kit containing approximately $3000 in grooming materials was reported stolen.

Burglary

February 29, 2024 (Overlook Road): The victim reported that she was walking down to the first floor of her residence when she heard a noise coming from an office on the first floor. When she approached her office, she observed that three of her windows were tampered with. All three screens to her windows were opened with the middle window screen lifted all the way. At the time of the report, it was unknown if anything was missing.

Arrest

March 1, 2024 (Bloomfield Avenue): A 40-year-old female from Albany, GA was charged with Criminal Attempt and Criminal Stimulation after allegedly trying to open an account at Citizen’s Bank with Fraudulent Documents. March 1, 2024 (Valley Road): A 46-year-old male from Paterson, NJ was charged with Obstruction of Justice and Resisting Arrest following a motor vehicle stop.
