MV Crime

April 2, 2024 (Summit Avenue): The complainant reported that two briefcases were stolen from his vehicle. The briefcases reportedly contained an iPad, a Macbook, and work documents. There is no suspect information.

April 6, 2024 (Upper Montclair Plaza): The victim reported that his wallet was stolen from his vehicle while he was performing work nearby. The victim began receiving alerts from his bank advising him of suspicious activity (Apple purchase for $947.00, Starbucks for $450.00). This caused him to check for his wallet which he discovered missing. The wallet also reportedly contained $3000.00 in cash.

Shoplifting

April 3, 2024 (Valley Road): Asset Protection Manager from Kings Supermarket reported two males entered the store and removed $1300 worth of steak, ribs, and lamb. The suspects fled without making payment.

The first suspect was described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5'4" in height, 190 pounds with short dark hair, glasses, wearing a white wind breaker style hoodie, black jeans, and white sneakers. Suspect two was also a Hispanic male, approximately 5'11" - 6' tall, 185 pounds. He was wearing a black baseball cap, a white jacket with black accents, black jeans, and white sneakers.

April 6, 2024 (Valley Road): Employees at Barbara Eclectic reported a shoplifting. They stated that a white female in her sixties, with short brown hair, 5’ tall, 180 pounds entered the store, and concealed approximately $300.00 in clothing in a shopping bag. She left the store without making payment and fled in an orange or red SUV.

Burglary

April 9, 2024 (Highland Avenue): Officers were in the 300 block of Highland Avenue after receiving information that a 2019 Mercedes Benz reported stolen from Newark was tracking in the area and was stationary. Officers responded and located the vehicle parked, running, and unoccupied. While on scene, Newark Police contacted Montclair Police and reported that a 2023 Audi SQ8 was observed in their city travelling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle registration came back to a Highland Avenue address in Montclair. Officers responded to that location and discovered the home had recently been burglarized.

They contacted the homeowner, who was out of the country. The resident confirmed through surveillance that his home had been burglarized and his vehicle was stolen. The surveillance video shows at approximately 4:59 AM, two young black males walking in the rear of the property towards a window that was used to gain entry.

Both suspects were seen wearing gloves with one individual also seen carrying a crowbar. It appears the suspect utilized the crowbar to enter the home. Once inside, the suspects located the keys to the Audi and fled with the car, leaving the stolen Mercedes behind.

Arrest

April 3, 2024 (Bloomfield Avenue): A 43-year-old male from Newark was charged with two counts of Disorderly Conduct, Theft, Criminal Mischief, Trespass, and Throwing Bodily Fluids at an officer. This individual was arrested after several stores and restaurants along Bloomfield Avenue reported this male was wreaking havoc in their businesses.

Assault

April 10, 2024 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reported that he was riding the 28 New Jersey Transit Bus from Willowbrook Mall to Montclair. He reported that as he was exiting the bus at Bloomfield Avenue and South Park Street, he was punched in the face. He reported that as he was tussling with the suspect, he felt himself get stabbed in his left leg. He walked himself to Mountainside Hospital where he received stiches. Mountainside ER made notification to the police. The victim believed his attackers were on the 28 Bus with him. He described them as two Hispanic males one being 5'10" in height and wearing a black "Nike Tech type jacket". The second individual was described as a shorter Hispanic male approximately 5'3"-5'5" in height with what seemed to be a short haircut and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. Both males were wearing black Air Force 1 sneakers.

April 12, 2024 (Bloomfield Avenue): A female employee of the Montclair Parking Authority reported that she was working in the three hundred block of Bloomfield Avenue and had just completed issuing a summons. While walking away, she was struck in the head with a rock thrown by an unknown person. The parking enforcement officer was alert and conscious but complained of head and shoulder pain. She was treated on scene by Montclair EMS.

Motor Vehicle Crime

April 11, 2024 (Tichenor Place): The resident reported that his 2008 Mercedes 350 was stolen from in front of his residence. He had mistakenly left his keys inside of the car. A neighbor reported observing the car fleeing at a high rate of speed north on Nishuane Road at 12:30AM.

April 13, 2024 (Plymouth Street): The resident reported that his 2023 Acura RDX was stolen from his driveway. He reported that he has the key fob to his car and is unsure how the suspects were able to steal it.

Motor Vehicle Crime

April 22, 2024 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that her vehicle was entered at some point between 1:30 PM April 21st and 6:30 AM April 22nd .The suspects gained entry through the front passenger side door. Approximately $500 in cash was removed from her wallet as well as two credit cards.

Burglary

April 22, 2024 (Valley Road): At approximately 6:30 AM, a pedestrian walking on Valley Road discovered the front window to Nouvelle & One Savvy Design had been shattered. Responding officers arrived and determined a burglary occurred during the overnight hours.

The owners arrived shortly thereafter and confirmed the burglary and a number of high end designer bags were missing. Surveillance footage shows a silver-colored sedan arriving at the business at approximately 1:48 AM.

Four individuals exit the vehicle and force entry into the business using a window punch tool. The suspects proceed to gather several designer handbags and flee the scene at 1:51 AM.

Arrests

April 18, 2024 (Pine Street): A 36-year-old female from Montclair was charged with Assault following a dispute on Pine Street.

April 19, 2024 (Bloomfield Avenue): At approximately 5:15 AM, Officers responded to the 500 block of Bloomfield Avenue after a passerby discovered a loaded handgun that was left on a bench. Officers arrived and located a 9mm Sig Sauer handgun loaded with seven rounds of ammunition.

Detectives obtained surveillance from the area and were able to determine who discarded the firearm on the bench. Anthony Anderson, a thirty-year-old male from Orange, NJ, was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

April 22, 2024 (Talbot Street): A 16-year-old male from East Orange, NJ was charged with Receiving Stolen Property following a theft on Talbot Street.
