July 26, 2022 – August 2, 2022

Motor Vehicle Crime

July 28, 2022 (Hartley Street): The victim reported that his wallet was stolen from his vehicle between 12:00 PM and 4:30 PM. Approximately $230.00 in unauthorized transactions were later made against his credit cards at a Rite Aid in Newark.

July 29, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that as he was exiting the mini mart at the Exxon gas station, he observed an unknown male in the back seat of his 2020 Range Rover. The victim yelled to the suspect who fled through the gas station towards Elm Street with the victim’s Gucci bag. The suspect continued running before entering the passenger side of a lime green sports car with all tinted windows. The vehicle then fled the scene. The suspect was described as a medium skinned black male, 5'10'' tall, thin build with a short fade on the side of his head and short braids on top. The suspect was wearing all black clothing, possibly an Adidas track suit. The Gucci bag was valued at $7,500.00

July 30, 2022 (Pine Street): The resident reported that an unknown person removed the Catalytic Converter from his 2006 Acura TSX. The theft occurred during the overnight hours while the vehicle was parked on the street.

July 30, 2022 (Glenridge Avenue): The resident reported that the Catalytic Converter was stolen off of his 2008 Acura TSX. The vehicle was parked on the street between 6:00 PM on July 29th and 4:00 PM July 30th.

August 1, 2022 (Bellaire Drive): The resident reported that she was packing her vehicle and returned inside of her residence to get more items. While away from her vehicle, an unknown person entered her open trunk and removed a MacBook laptop valued at $1,500.00.

August 1, 2022 (North Mountain Avenue): The resident reported that her 2016 black BMW X1 was stolen from her driveway while she briefly stepped inside of her home. The vehicle contained numerous personal items and the key fob.

Criminal Mischief

July 30, 2022 (Maple Avenue): An anonymous passerby reported to police that he observed two females throwing rocks towards the windows of Glenfield Middle School, and believed they caused damage to several windows. The reporting person described the two suspects as black females, and both in their late teens. He could only recall that one of the females was attired in a

light-colored "fluorescent" blouse, with long braided hair. An officer responded an observed four windows to the Catching Owens Suit to be damaged and the females no longer on scene. The monetary amount of damage is unknown at this time.

Arrests

July 26, 2022 (Church Street): A 42-year-old male from South Hackensack, NJ was charged with Disorderly Conduct following a disturbance on Church Street.

July 28, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): A 58-year-old male from Newark was charged with Shoplifting from CVS on Bloomfield Avenue. The suspect fled the store with $350.00 in merchandise but was located by patrol on Church Street with the items.

August 2, 2022 – August 9, 2022

Motor Vehicle Crime

August 3, 2022 (Harrison Avenue): A 2020 Nissan Rouge was stolen from the driveway of the residence. It was recovered abandoned in Irvington on August 6, 2022.

August 4, 2022 (Fairview Place / Windemere Road): Multiple motor vehicle burglaries were reported in the area of Fairview Place and Windemere Road in the early morning hours of August 4, 2022. Surveillance video retrieved from the area shows the same suspects entering several vehicles. The first suspect was described as a black male, in his late teens or early twenties, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, a black mask, black sweatpants, and black and red sneakers. The second party (unknown sex and race) was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, white mask, black pants, and grey shoes. The were operating a dark SUV.

Fairview Place:

  1. Honda CRV entered
  2. Jeep Cherokee were entered.
  3. Honda Odyssey was stolen.

Windemere Road:

  1. Jeep Wrangler entered.
  2. Jeep Cherokee entered.
  3. Volvo entered.

Glenridge Avenue:

  1. Catalytic Converter stolen off of a 2004 Honda Civic.

Christopher Street

  1. Honda CRV entered.

August 7, 2022 (Highland Avenue):

A 2018 Audi Q7 was stolen from a driveway on Highland Avenue. It was recovered abandoned in Newark on August 8, 2022.

August 8, 2022 (Edgewood Wood): A 2017 Audi Q7 was stolen from the driveway of a residence on Edgewood Road.

Burglary

August 8, 2022 (Bellevue Avenue): Patrol was dispatched to an activated burglar alarm at Bow Tie Cinemas (260 Bellevue Avenue). A second-floor door leading to the projector room appeared to have been forced open. The owner arrived and a walk through was conducted. No new damage or missing items were located.

Arrests

August 2, 2022 (Elmwood Road): A 21-year-old male from Montclair was arrested on open Assault warrants from Montclair following a dispute.

August 3, 2022 (Warren Place): A Warren Place resident reported observing three unknown males walking up his driveway and entering his parked vehicle. Officers located all three males in the area. A second resident approached police on scene and stated the same suspects had entered his vehicle. All three males, juveniles from Newark, were charged with Burglary and Defiant Trespass. They were released to the custody of their parents.

August 9, 2022 – August 16, 2022

Theft

August 9, 2022 (Claremont Avenue): The resident reported that a UPS package that had been delivered to his home was stolen from the porch. The package contained a $250.00 softball bat.

August 9, 2022 (Valley Road): The complainant reported that at least one hundred gallons of used cooking oil had been removed from a sealed drum behind Montclair Charbroil. The estimated value of the oil was $450.00.

August 11, 2022 (Claremont Avenue): An employee of Montclair Motorwerks reported that a grey Honda Accord and a black Nissan Altima arrived at the gas station and purchased $122.00 worth of gas between the two vehicles. It was discovered later that the card used to purchase the gas was a stolen credit card.

August 11, 2022 (Park Street): The resident reported that a wedding ring valued at approximately $1,800.00 was stolen from the home. She believes that the theft occurred in early July and suspects a cleaning service to be responsible.

August 12, 2022 (Claremont Avenue): The manager at CVS Pharmacy reported that a suspicious male entered the store at 4:30 AM and placed multiple items into two separate children’s backpacks, also offered for sale by CVS. When confronted, he fled the store. He was described as a Hispanic male, 5’10” in height, thin build, wearing a white shirt, grey shorts, black baseball cap with a ponytail out the back, and white sneakers. The suspect entered a black or blue vehicle and fled the scene. The merchandise was left behind and was valued at $422.00.

Motor Vehicle Crime

August 12, 2022 (Erwin Park Road): A 2021 Range Rover was stolen from an open garage on Erwin Park Road. It was discovered in East Orange later that morning.

August 12, 2022 (North Mountain Avenue): The resident reported that her home surveillance system captured two males dressed in all black attempting to enter vehicles in her driveway. Both vehicles were locked and they were unable to make entry. The suspects were described as a medium framed black male with a goatee wearing black pants, a black hooded sweatshirt with white lettering across the back and a small white emblem on the front. The sweatshirt also had a red emblem on the left shoulder. The second male is described as having a thin frame and longer “puffed up” hair. He was wearing black pants and black t-shirt with a large white emblem on the back with white lettering around it.

Arrests

August 11, 2022 (South Park Street): Officers responded to the area of South Park Street and Church Street on a verbal altercation. Witnesses reported that two males were engaged in an argument and one male brandished a knife. Officers interviewed both parties and located a blue folding knife on one of the involved parties. A 32 year-old-male from Montclair was subsequently charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

August 15, 2022 (Church Street): The victim reported that she was having lunch on Church Street with her purse hanging off of her chair when an unknown person approached her, took her purse, and began running west towards South Park Street. An employee witnessed the incident and began chasing the suspect. An officer who was in the area observed the employee chasing the suspect and gave chase. The suspect, a 57 year-old-male from Jersey City, NJ was apprehended in the alley way next to Leone’s restaurant. He was found to have the victim’s cash and the victim’s checkbook. He was charged with Theft. In addition, he was found to be a wanted person out of the Hudson County Sheriffs Department.

August 16, 2022 – August 23, 2022

Theft

August 16, 2022 (Watchung Avenue): Employees at “Dot Reeder” on Watchung Avenue reported that an unknown male entered the store and stole two sweatshirts valued at $145.00 each. The suspect was described as a black male in his 40s-50s. He had black balding hair and an unkept beard.

August 19, 2022 (Walnut Street): An employee of an oil collection company reported that 175 gallons of used cooking oil had been stolen from a tank. The tank was supposedly full at the time of the theft and was valued at approximately $788.00.

Burglary

August 16, 2022 (Christopher Street): The resident reported that he and his family were out of their house between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM. When they returned home, they discovered that their home had been burglarized. There was broken glass and droplets of blood on the floor. Entry appears to have been gained by force through a side door. At the time of the report, the only item missing is approximately $100.00 in cash.

August 20, 2022 (Highland Avenue): The resident reported that he was awoken by his dogs barking and observed that his kitchen window and rear sliding door were wide open. He also observed what he believes was a subject in his yard with a flashlight. Surveillance inside the home shows the suspect in a black hooded sweat shirt with an image or lettering on the front and a logo (possibly Adidas) on the pant leg inside of the home.

Motor Vehicle Crime

August 17, 2022 (Mount Vernon Road): A 2021 BMW X5 was stolen from a driveway on Mount Vernon Road. The vehicle reportedly contained the key fob and a set of golf clubs valued at $5,000.00

August 20, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): A 2020 white Range Rover was stolen from the Glenmont Square Parking Lot. The vehicle was recovered abandoned, later in the evening in Belleville, NJ.

August 21, 2022 (Valley Road): A 2020 Volkswagen Atlas was stolen from a driveway on Valley Road. It was recovered later in the day in Newark, unoccupied.

August 21, 2022 (Linden Avenue): The complainant reported that the catalytic converter for her 2007 Honda CRV was stolen during the day while the vehicle was parked in the driveway.

August 22, 2022 (Enfield Road): The resident reported that he was outside smoking a cigarette and observed two males approach his 2009 BMW X3 and made entry. When the victim yelled out to the suspects, they fled on foot south on Enfield Road. The suspects are described as two males, 17-20 years of age, approximately 6'-6'2", slim build, both wearing black hooded sweatshirts and black pants. One of the suspects is Caucasian and the other is African American.

Arrest

August 19, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): A New Jersey Transit Bus operator flagged down an officer requesting police escort an unruly female passenger off of the bus. The female reportedly refused to pay the bus fare and refused to exit the bus upon being asked to. The passenger, an 18 year-old female from Montclair, became belligerent with officers and refused to exit the bus. She was ultimately charged with Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest and release

August 23, 2022 – August 30, 2022

Vandalism

August 26, 2022 (Essex Avenue): Board of Education maintenance personnel reported three areas on the turf of Fortunato Field appeared to have been burnt. It appears as though the damage was caused by fireworks.

Motor Vehicle Crime

August 26, 2022 (Llewellyn Road): The complainant reported that he was in the back of his work van when the van began to shake. He stepped out of his vehicle and observed that his driver side door was open. The complainant observed a Hispanic male, approximately 5'10" in height, wearing a face mask, baseball cap, and gray sweatshirt exit the passenger compartment of his vehicle. This suspect then entered the front passenger seat of a silver Kia Optima and fled east on Llewellyn Road. The Kia was reported stolen out of Jersey City.

August 27, 2022 (Glenridge Avenue): The victim reported observing an unknown male enter the driver’s side of her Range Rover while it was parked on Glenridge Avenue. The victim began recording the incident and, once the suspect saw he was being recorded, he entered an awaiting BMW and fled east on Glenridge Avenue. The BMW was reported stolen out of East Orange.

August 28, 2022 (Upper Mountain Avenue): The victim reported that she observed an unknown person enter her 2017 Range Rover while it was parked in her driveway. The victim yelled out to the suspect who fled to an awaiting Kia and fled the area.

August 28, 2022 (The Crescent): An unlocked BMW was entered during the overnight hours. The complainant stated that the glove console was entered and rummaged through but is unsure if anything was missing.

Shoplifting

August 27, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): Employees of Montclair Wine Cellar reported an unknown female entered the store and proceeded to grab a bottle of alcohol from the rear. She left the establishment without paying. She was described as a black female, approximately 5'6” - 5'10” tall wearing a red dress, black sweatpants, and white sandals. She was carrying a tan tote bag and large dark colored backpack and told the employees to “Have a nice day”.

Arrests

August 25, 2022 (Maple Avenue): Officers on patrol in the area of Pine Street and Glenridge Avenue observed a Subaru Legacy operated by two males. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Newark. Officers managed to stop the vehicle at Maple Street and Elmwood Avenue. Two sixteen-year-old males from Newark were placed under arrest and charged with Receiving Stolen Property. They were remanded to the Essex County Youth House.
