July 5, 2022 – July 12, 2022

Vandalism

July 5, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): The operator of a New Jersey Transit bus reported that a male approached the bus and purposely pushed himself into the door, causing it to shatter. The suspect was described as a black male in his twenties, 5'10"- 6'00", approximately 180 pounds, wearing a white T-shirt and a blue bandana around his head. The male fled west on Bloomfield Avenue.

Disturbance

July 5, 2022 (Maple Avenue): The complainant reported that a group of juveniles entered the Catching Owens Community Suite during “Game Night” and proceeded to throw firecrackers inside of the building. The floor and walls reportedly sustained what was only described as “moderate damage”. The suspects were described as six juveniles, two of which were female, wearing masks. They were last seen fleeing south on Maple Avenue.

Motor Vehicle Crime

July 6, 2022 (Harrison Avenue): The resident reported that while letting his dogs out of his home he observed an unknown male attempting to enter his black Range Rover. After seeing the resident, the suspect retreated to an awaiting white Honda Accord and fled north on Harrison Avenue. The suspect was described as a black male, 18-21 years old, 6’00” in height, slim build, wearing a yellow hooded sweatshirt, dark colored jacket, black pants, and a ski mask.

July 7, 2022 (Lewis Court): The resident reported that his 2021 Ford Explorer was entered during the overnight hours. The vehicle was rummaged through and a small amount of cash was stolen.

July 7, 2022 (Highland Avenue): The complainant reported that her unlocked Audi was entered while parked on the street. Missing at this time are is a black ‘See By Chloe’ cross body bag, an Argentina Passport, a red iPhone, white iPhone headphones, $85.00 cash, and a set of keys.

July 10, 2022 (Valley Road): At 2:34 AM patrol units were dispatched to the 700 block of Valley Road on a report of two individuals attempting to enter vehicles. Officers located two juvenile males from Newark walking in the area who matched the description provided by the caller. They were transported to Police Headquarters and turned over to a guardian.

July 12, 2022 – July 19, 2022

Vandalism

July 13, 2022 (Lackawanna Plaza): The owner of a 2018 Chevy Pickup reported that on three separate occasions, all four of the tires on his vehicle were slashed while parked on Lackawanna Plaza. The tires were valued at approximately $255.00 each.

Burglary / Attempted Burglary

July 13, 2022 (Valley Road): A Valley Road resident reported that he returned home from work and discovered the side door to his residence had been forcefully kicked in. The incident reportedly occurred between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM. The door was destroyed however, nothing was reported missing by the homeowner.

July 14, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): The resident reported that he left his apartment at 6:30 PM and returned at 9:00 AM the following day. Upon his arrival home he discovered his apartment door was broken and pushed in. Entry does not appear to have been successful and nothing was reported missing.

July 16, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): The super for The Vestry reported that two males vandalized the garage door to the complex and appeared to attempt entry. Surveillance video shows two males in the parking lot. One male is seen approaching the closed garage door and pushes a panel out of the housing. Both suspects approach the garage door and remove a second panel. The suspects are seen sticking their heads, arms, and shoulders into the new opening in an attempt to climb in. They are unsuccessful and leave the area.

Motor Vehicle Crime

July 15, 2022 (Franklin Place): The complainant reported that while sitting in his living room, he observed an unknown male attempting to gain access into his 2021 BMW X3. The complainant ran outside and the suspect retreated to an awaiting GMC SUV. The GMC fled east on Washington Avenue into Glen Ridge. The suspect was described as a thin black male, 6’00” tall, wearing a ski mask and a white shirt.

July 17, 2022 (Woodmont Road): A 2019 Range Rover was stolen from a driveway on Woodmont Road. The family had just returned from vacation and the vehicle contained

approximately $20,000 in luggage, clothing, and electronics. The Range Rover was recovered later in the day, abandoned in East Orange.

July 18, 2022 (Enfield Road): The resident reported that his 2016 Land Rover was stolen from his driveway. The vehicle was left running while items were being carried into the house. It was recovered abandoned in Newark the morning of July 19, 2022.

Arrests

July 13, 2022 (Claremont Avenue): A 49 year old male from Newark, NJ was arrested on outstanding warrants from the New Jersey State Police, Union, Newark, Roselle, and Trenton.

July 14, 2022 (South Park Street): An 18 year old male from Bloomfield was charged with Simple Assault following a disturbance on South Park Street.

July 15, 2022 (Claremont Avenue): A 27 year old male from East Orange was charged with Fraud and Credit Card Theft after attempting to purchase gas using a stolen credit card.

July 16, 2022 (South Park Street): A 32 year old male from Montclair was charged with Disorderly Conduct following an altercation on South Park Street.

July 16, 2022 (Valley Road): A 66 year old male from Newark was charged with Criminal Mischief after shattering the windshield of an Uber following a fare dispute.

July 19, 2022 – July 26, 2022

Motor Vehicle Crime

July 20, 2022 (Orange Road): The complainant reported that while working on Orange Road, an unknown person entered his GMC pickup truck and stole his cellphone and wallet. Credit cards in the wallet were later used at a Game Stop and a New Balance store in Elizabeth, NJ.

July 21, 2022 (North Mountain Avenue): The victim reported that his unlocked Prius was entered during the overnight hours. Approximately $15.00 in cash was reported missing.

Lewdness

July 22, 2022 (Cedar Avenue): The complainant reported that while walking her dog the previous day at approximately 1:00 PM in Nishuane Park, she observed a male masturbating. The male was seated on a bench on the east side of the park, facing west toward the playground with his pants down to his knees. She described the suspect as a Black male, approximately 50 years old, thin build, short black hair, wearing dark black or blue "work clothes" (pants and shirt), and a green reflective vest. She added that there were no children or adults present on the playground.

Attempted Burglary

July 23, 2022 (North Fullerton Avenue): A North Fullerton Avenue resident reported that he was walking down the interior stairs of his home when he observed the shadow of a male standing outside his exterior screen door. He stated that the male proceeded to kick the main wooden door to the home breaking the glass and frame of the bottom glass panel. This resulted in glass from the panel shattering both inside and outside of the home. The male suspect can be described as a black male, unknown age, approximately 5’09” tall, slim build, wearing a light-colored shirt and dark pants. The suspect did not make entry and was last seen fleeing north on North Fullerton towards Claremont Avenue.

Arrests

July 19, 2022 (Maple Plaza Lot): A 40-year-old male from Montclair was arrested on an open Assault warrant out of Paterson, NJ.

July 20, 2022 (Church Street): A 32-year-old male from Montclair was charged with Disorderly Conduct following a dispute on Church Street.

July 21, 2022 (North Fullerton Avenue): A North Fullerton Avenue resident reported that at approximately 10:15 PM she exited her residence to lock her car doors when she noticed the interior light was on in her vehicle and an unknown male was rummaging through it. The victim yelled to the suspect who ran north on North Fullerton. Responding officers located the suspect on Chestnut Street. The suspect, a 22-year-old male from Montclair, was positively identified and charged with Burglary to Auto and Resisting Arrest after fighting with officers.
