Montclair Police Blotters for July 2021

July 6, 2021 – July 13, 2021

Armed Subject

July 7, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Officers responded to the area of Bloomfield Avenue and New Street on a report of a male who had brandished a handgun. A description of a thin black male with a full black beard wearing a gray tracksuit and Yankees hat was provided. He was last seen on New Street. A victim was located who stated that he was approached by the suspect who was inquiring about the victim’s tattoos. The victim stated that the suspect pulled a silver revolver from his pocket and held the gun on him and continued to question him about the tattoos. The victim stated that the suspect then fled east on Bloomfield Avenue. This incident is currently under investigation.

Theft

July 8, 2021 (Claremont Avenue): The manager of CVS Pharmacy reported observing two males and one female in the personal hygiene section placing various items into their clothing. The suspects then fled the store without paying, knocking over a display case in the process. The suspects were described as an Asian Indian male 20-25 years old, medium build, approximately 6'00" tall, wearing a black hoodie with gray sweatpants and black shoes. The second suspect was said to be an Asian Indian male, 20-25 years old, thin build, approximately 5'09" tall, wearing a black T-Shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes. The female was described as an Asian Indian female, 20-25 years old, medium build, approximately 5'07" tall, wearing a black T-Shirt, leggings, and white slippers. Proceeds were approximately $142.00 in merchandise. The suspects were recognized by store management as habitual shoplifters.

July 11, 2021 (Talbot Street): A 2020 Audi A5 was stolen from in front of a Talbot Street residence between midnight and 3:00AM. The vehicle was involved in a motor vehicle accident at Chestnut Street and Watson Avenue in West Orange. Two unidentified males were witnessed fleeing from the vehicle after the crash.

July 11, 2021 (Glenside Terrace): A Glenside Avenue resident reported a package theft occurred on July 9, 2021 between 2:17 PM and 2:20 PM. The package contained a Segway Ninebot valued at $900.00. Surveillance footage shows a dark blue or black vehicle, possibly a Honda Accord, approach the residence. An unknown male wearing a ski mask, a dark shirt, and dark shorts exits the front passenger side of the vehicle and approaches the residence. The suspect proceeds to steal the package then returns to the vehicle and places the package in the rear seat before fleeing south on Glenside Terrace towards Bellevue Avenue.

July 11, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Management at CVS reported that they were alerted by other customers that an unknown male was observed stealing several bottles of lotion. He was

described as a black male, 40-50 years old, wearing a black hat, black backpack, dark colored sweat shirt and sweat pants. Surveillance shows the male take approximately 10-15 bottles of lotion.

July 11, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): A 2019 BMW X5 was stolen from the area of Bloomfield Avenue and Midland Avenue. The vehicle was unattended and running while the owner was inside of a store.

Robbery

July 11, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reported that he was sleeping in the area of Bloomfield Avenue and North Willow Street when a white sedan pulled up along-side of him. Three males exited the vehicle and took the victims phone from him by force after a brief struggle. No injuries were reported.

Arrest

July 11, 2021 (South Mountain Avenue): Ashley Benitez (26 year old female, New York, NY) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a single car motor vehicle accident.

July 13, 2021 – July 20, 2021

Theft

July 13, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that she locked her bicycle to a bike rack overnight. When she returned to it, the bike and bike lock were gone. The bicycle was described as a red Scorpio AL 200 valued at $150.00.

July 13, 2021 (Valley Road): The complainant reported that her silver Giant Hybrid bicycle valued at $600 was stolen from her property during the overnight hours.

July 13, 2021 (Church Street): The victim reported his parked vehicle was entered between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM.  Entry was gained through the rear hatchback door. A cellphone was stolen.

July 15, 2021 (North Fullerton Avenue): The resident reported an Amazon package containing
$50.00 worth of clothing was stolen from her front porch. Surveillance video depicts a Hispanic male approximately 25-35 years old, wearing a dark color tank top with a yellow batman symbol, dark pants, blue hat, and blue and white book bag approach the porch and take the package.

Arrests

July 13, 2021 (North Fullerton Avenue): Hassan Alexander (20 years old, Newark, NJ) was charged with Terroristic Threats, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Disorderly Conduct following a dispute on North Fullerton Avenue.

July 14, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Nathanael Hillman (33 years old, Bloomfield, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop.

July 16, 2021 (Plymouth Street): Stacey James (42 years old, Montclair, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a single car motor vehicle accident.

July 19, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Phillip Lively (38 years old, East Orange, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop.

July 20, 2021 – July 27, 2021

Burglary

July 20, 2021 (Church Street): At 5:05 AM, Officers responded to S&K Jewelers on a report of an activated burglar alarm. Upon arrival they observed the glass front door to the business shattered and a brick paver located on the ground inside the business. The business was checked however, no suspect was located inside. Surveillance video shows what appears to be a male subject approach the business at 4:43 AM, break the front glass door and gain entry into the store. The suspect was inside for less than a minute. The suspect then exits the store and walks east on Church Street towards Bloomfield Avenue. The suspect is seen wearing dark colored pants, black and camouflage jacket with reflective material, a hood, dark shoes, and a face covering. There were no reported proceeds.

Theft

July 20, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): A 2017 Mercedes Benz CLA 250 was stolen while parked on Bloomfield Avenue between 6:30 PM and 6:45 PM. The owner believes that she left her keys in the vehicle. The vehicle reportedly contained multiple suitcases of high-end clothing and shoes and $5,000 cash.

July 20, 2021 (High Street): The complainant reported that he parked his vehicle on High Street and had the drivers side window down. He observed a dark colored Jeep Grand Cherokee pull up along side his vehicle. The driver of the Cherokee exited the Jeep and entered the complainant’s vehicle. The suspect removed the complainant’s wallet and fled south on High Street. The suspect was described as black male with a thin build wearing a white T-shirt and a draw string bag.

July 22, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Officers on patrol located an unoccupied 2011 BMW X5 parked in a metered spot on Bloomfield Avenue. The vehicle was reported stolen from Belleville, NJ.  The vehicle was impounded.

July 24, 2021 (Warren Place): The complainant reported that her vehicle was entered during the overnight hours while it was parked in her driveway. Her purse containing Apple Air pods, an Apple iPhone, and various cred/debit cards was stolen.

July 24, 2021 (Clinton Avenue): The victim reported that an electric blue Liv racing bike valued at approximately $500.00 was stolen from in front of her home. The suspect left a red and blue Free Spirit Outrage bicycle in its place.

July 25, 2021 (Christopher Street): A 2007 BMW X3 was stolen during the overnight hours from a driveway on Christopher Street. Surveillance video shows three individuals walking north on Christopher Street stop and enter the vehicle at 2:57 AM. The vehicle then flees south on Christopher Street. The vehicle was recovered, parked and unoccupied, on July 26, 2021 on South 12th Street in Newark, NJ

July 27, 2021 – August 3, 2021

Burglary

July 28, 2021 (Roosevelt Place): The building superintendent reported that someone attempted to open several storage lockers in the basement of the building. Some of the lockers were observed to be pried open. It was unknown at the time of the report if anything was missing.

Theft

July 29, 2021 (South Fullerton Avenue): The owner of a 2020 Honda Pilot reported her vehicle was entered and her wristlet and change purse were removed.

July 30, 2021 (Orange Road): The resident reported that two packages of shades that had been delivered by FedEx were stolen from his porch. They were valued at $7,000.

July 31, 2021 (Union Street): The complainant reported that his bicycle was stolen from in front of his house. The 2021 Moss Green Escape 3 L, valued at $550, was locked to a street sign.

August 1, 2021 (Pine Street): The victim reported that she hired a moving company to assist her in moving from her apartment and suspects one of the workers took her iPhone 11 Pro and Airpods.

August 2, 2021 (Park Street): The victim reported that she placed her engagement ring valued at
$15,000 in an office drawer while she was at work. When she returned the ring was no longer there. It was described as a white gold engagement ring with diamonds.

August 2, 2021 (Pine Street): The resident reported that his 2019 Cannondale CAADX 105SE 56 cm road bike was stolen from a storage area underneath his front steps. The incident reported occurred during the overnight hours July 30, 2021 into July 31, 2021.

Criminal Mischief / Assault

August 2, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Officers responded to Montclair Video Boutique on a report of a dispute. The employee reported an unknown person entered the business on two separate occasions requesting wrapping papers. When he was told that they do not sell them, the suspect became irate and pushed over a display case which contained merchandise. The case hit the ground and shattered. The employee sustained cuts to his hands but refused medical attention. The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 20-30 years old, 6’00” tall, thin build, with dark eyes and dreadlocks.

Arrests

August 1, 2021 (Christopher Street): Israelnab Dimas (27 years old, Montclair) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop.
