Thefts

July 1, 2020 (Willowdale Avenue): The complainant reports that the owner’s manual to her vehicle, a pair of gloves, a first aid kit, and $1 in change was stolen from her vehicle.

July 2, 2020 (Maple Avenue): A juvenile reports that his bicycle and cell phone were stolen.

July 6, 2020 (Valley Road): An employee reports finding “MKA HAR BORS RACICSM” spray painted on a building at the Montclair Kimberly Academy Middle School.

July 6, 2020 (Glenridge Avenue): The complainant reports that his motor vehicle was stolen from a private lot.

Vandalism

July 1, 2020 (Bellevue Avenue): While on patrol, police located a defaced municipal parking sign, with “ACAB” and “Boot lickers too” written on the rear of the sign black ink.

July 3, 2020 (Union Street): the complainant reports that the tires to a motor vehicle were slashed.

July 5, 2020 (Pleasant Way): The complainant reports that a free book bin located on the lawn of her residence. It appears that they damage may have been caused by a lit firecracker being placed in the bin.

Theft

July 7, 2020 (North Fullerton Avenue): The victim reports that his bicycle was stolen when left unchained in Rand Park.

July 10, 2020 (Valley Road): An employee of CVS reports that a female took approximately $30 in merchandise and left the store without paying at approximately 8:55 AM. The suspect is described as a black or Hispanic female, 5’2”, thin build, approximately sixty years old, last seen wearing a pink, short sleeved shirt, black ants, and a white baseball cap.

July 11, 2020 (South Park Street): The complainant reports that a cell phone was stolen after it was left momentarily unattended while charging near the Sienna Building.

July 11, 2020 (North Fullerton Avenue): The complainant reports that four watches, valued at over $33,000, were stolen from his residence.

July 13, 2020 (Watchung Avenue): The complainant reports that a designer bag containing
$7,000 in clothing, jewelry, and camera equipment was stolen from an unlocked vehicle.

July 13, 2020 (Grove Street): the complainant reports that $10 was taken from the counter of the Grove Laundromat.

July 14, 2020 (Pine Street): The complainant reports that the catalytic converter was taken from his vehicle.

July 16, 2020 (South Park Street): The complainant reports that a watch, valued at $4,500, was stolen from his residence.

July 16, 2020 (Edgemont Road): The complainant reports that a table was stolen from her property.

July 17, 2020 (Summit Avenue): The complainant reports that his motor vehicle was stolen. The vehicle was left unlocked with the keys inside the vehicle prior to the theft.

Vandalism

July 18, 2020 (North Fullerton Avenue): Police located a stop sign that had been vandalized, with the word “FACISM” written in green paint on the sign.

Other

July 8, 2020 (Rand Park): A sign reading “FUCK THE RACIST POLICE” was found hanging inside the rea of the tennis courts at Rand Park.

Arrests

July 8, 2020 (Elm Street): Dana McCombs, 34, of Newark, was arrested after police discovered that she had warrants issued by multiple jurisdictions.

July 14, 2020 (Valley Road): William Clark, 49, of New York, was charged with shoplifting after he left Acme without paying for almost $450 in merchandise.

July 19, 2020 (Llewellyn Road): Timeka Bethea-Lee, 43, of West Orange, was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Vandalism

July 21, 2020 (Orange Road): While conducting a walk through of the Orange Road Parking Deck, officers observed “Blue Lives Murder” written on the first and third levels of the deck.

July 27, 2020 (Talbot Street): The complainant reported that unknown individuals damaged his vehicle by scratching the front bumper and rear left fender.
Theft from Motor Vehicle

July 21, 2020 (Midland Avenue): The complainant reported that his wallet was stolen from the center console of his vehicle during the overnight hours. He reported that he left the windows open when he parked the car. The wallet contained his drivers license, numerous cards, and approximately $60.00 in cash.

July 21, 2020 (Saint Lukes Place): The complainant reported that his vehicle was entered during the overnight hours and his wallet was stolen from the glove compartment. He reported that the vehicle was locked but he left his windows open.

July 24, 2020 (Warren Place): A patrol officer was flagged down by a resident stating that an unknown individual just attempted to enter his vehicles. The resident observed the incident on his Ring Camera and began searching for the suspects on his own before flagging the officer down. Surveillance footage depicts a dark sedan pull up in front of the residence without headlights. An unknown subject exits the sedan and approaches the resident’s vehicles and attempts to open them. The doors were locked and the suspect returns to the dark sedan and flees the area.

July 27, 2020 (Dodd Street): A resident reported that his vehicle was entered during the overnight hours and was rummaged through. Nothing was reported missing at this time.

Shoplifting

July 21, 2020 (Claremont Avenue): The manager of CVS Pharmacy reported that three black males entered the business together and split up to different parts of the store. The manager recognized the suspects from previous shoplifting incidents. When she approached them, they fled the store with unknown items stuffed into their shirts. They entered a dark colored sedan and fled east on Claremont Avenue at a high rate of speed. They were described as three black males, 20-25 years old, two wearing white t-shirts and blue jeans, one with a white t-shirt and black shorts.

July 27, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): The manager of CVS Pharmacy on Bloomfield Avenue reported a male who has shoplifted from her store in the past entered the business and stole between $800-$1000 worth of hygiene products. He is described as a thin black male, approximately 6’00” tall, wearing a baseball cap, long sleeve dark jacket, jeans, white sneakers, and one of his eyes appeared to be injured of malformed. He was last seen running south on South Park Street.

Theft

July 22, 2020 (Gardiner Place): The victim reported that his white and purple mountain bike with no distinguishing characteristics was stolen from the front yard of his friend’s residence. The bicycle was valued at between $300-$500.

July 22, 2020 (Saint Lukes Place): The resident reported that her Ring Camera system was stolen from the front of her residence sometime between November 1, 2020 and the time of the report.

July 23, 2020 (Washington Avenue): The resident reported that $220.00 worth of groceries delivered to her home between 0615 hrs and 0745 hrs were stolen.

July 23, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): The resident reported that he installed a $300 Nest surveillance system outside of his apartment door. When he returned twenty minutes later the camera was gone and the wires were dismantled.

July 24, 2020 (Pine Street): The resident reported that an Amazon package that had been delivered to his front vestibule was stolen. The package contained a pair of Beats headphones valued at $80.00

July 24, 2020 (Maple Avenue): The complainant reported that while parked outside of a Maple Avenue residence, an individual reached into her vehicle and stole an envelope containing $700.00 in cash. The suspect fled westbound through the rear yards.

Burglary

July 26, 2020 (Maple Avenue): The landlord to a vacant residence returned and reported that unknown person had entered and damaged the first floor. The incident occurred sometime between March 2020 and the time of the report.

Motor Vehicle Theft

July 24, 2020 (Summit Avenue) A 2014 Chevrolet Suburban that had been stolen on July 18, 2020 from Summit Avenue was recovered in Muttontown, New York. The vehicle was parked and unoccupied at the time of the recovery.

July 27, 2020 (Dodd Street): A 2013 Acura RDX was stolen during the overnight hours from the driveway of a Dodd Street residence. The keys were left in the vehicle. The vehicle was recovered on July 28, 2020 in Newark, unoccupied, and engulfed in flames.

Assault

July 21, 2020 (Pierson Place): The victim reported that he was outside of his residence when a vehicle pulled up and four occupants exited and began assaulting him. He sustained minor abrasions to the right side of his face. He was treated by Montclair Ambulance and released on scene. The suspects fled on Marston Place towards Glen Ridge.

July 23, 2020 (Maple Avenue): Patrol units responded to Maple Avenue on a report of a disturbance. Mr. Victor Riofrio-Montenegro (35 years of age, Montclair, NJ) reported that while unloading his vehicle on Mission Street, he observed a 17-year-old juvenile male steal his sons’s bicycle from the front of his residence. Riofrio-Montenegro’s wife began to chase the suspect on foot while Riofrio-Montenegro and his juvenile son followed in their car. The suspect was stopped and confronted outside of Glenfield Middle School where a physical altercation ensued. At some point during the chase, Riofrio-Montenegro’s wife fell and injured her leg. After being stopped, the juvenile suspect reportedly kicked Riofrio-Montenegro’s vehicle and struck his son in the face before fleeing on foot westbound. Responding patrol officers located the juvenile suspect on Mission Street, who also appeared injured. Further investigation revealed that Riofrio-Montenegro purposely struck the juvenile suspect with his vehicle as he was attempting to flee on Maple Avenue. The juvenile suspect was transported to Mountainside Hospital with minor injuries. Riofrio-Montenegro’s wife and son were also transported to Mountainside Hospital, also with minor injuries. As a result of this incident, Riofrio-Montenegro was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Assault by Auto, Possession of a Weapon (vehicle), and Possession of a Weapon (vehicle) for an Unlawful Purpose. The juvenile suspect was later charged with Theft.
