Montclair Police Blotters for June 2021

June 1, 2021 – June 8, 2021

Theft

June 3, 2021 (Summit Avenue): The complainants reported several items missing from their residence. They stated that over the course of several months, a golden mirror, a samurai sword, four crystal wedding glasses, two Cusinart hand mixers, a twin-size mattress, and various bedding items were removed from the property.

June 5, 2021 (Brookfield Road): A 2021 Grey Mazda CX9 was reported stolen from the resident’s driveway during the overnight hours. The vehicle was reportedly left unlocked with the keys inside. It was recovered later the same day, parked and unoccupied, in Newark.

June 5, 2021 (Gates Avenue): The victim reported that she parked her vehicle on Gates Avenue with her rear windows down. When she returned to it, she discovered her glove box was open and some documents missing.

June 7, 2021 (Maple Avenue): The driver for a ride share service reported that he picked up a fare on Maple Avenue and drove him to Elmwood Avenue in East Orange. After the customer exited the vehicle, the driver began receiving notifications that his credit cards were being used. He then discovered his wallet missing.

Arrests

June 5, 2021 (Gordonhurst Avenue): Mr. Khalil Jones (24-year-old, Orange, NJ) was charged with Contempt of Court after officers discovered open warrants out of Bloomfield, NJ during a motor vehicle stop.

June 5, 2021 (Club Street): Officers responded to the area of Club Street and Valley Road after the resident reported observing four males entering his vehicle that was parked in his driveway. Responding officers located four males matching the description of the suspects leaving the scene. Upon observing the officers, the males fled on foot in different directions. Two 17-year- old juvenile males from Newark were apprehended on Valley Road. A 15-year-old and a 17- year-old juvenile male from Newark were located hiding behind a residence on Bellaire Drive. All juveniles were charged with Obstruction of Justice and Resisting Arrest. The 15-year-old male was found to be in possession of proceeds belonging to a resident of Valley Road. Officers checked with that resident who determined his vehicle had also been entered and items were removed. This juvenile was additionally charged with Receiving Stolen Property. One of the 17-year-old males was found to be in possession of a key to a Mazda. It was later determined that this key belonged to the vehicle reported stolen from Brookfield Road earlier in the day.

This juvenile was additionally charged with Receiving Stolen Property. All juveniles were ultimately released to guardians.

June 8, 2021 – June 15, 2021

Vandalism

June 8, 2021 (Pine Street): The property manager for Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church reported that a cast iron outdoor light fixture was damaged and removed from the wall. It was reportedly valued between $800.00 and $1000.00.

Burglary / Attempted Burglary

June 9, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that he believes his apartment was entered while he was moving into it. He reported that while moving boxes into the apartment, an unknown person removed a black Timbuk2 messenger bag from the kitchen table. The bag was valued at $120.00 and contained various sentimental items.

June 14, 2021 (Valley Road): The resident reported that at some point between 9:00 AM June 10th and 1:00 PM June 14th, an unknown person attempted to gain access into their residence. The rear French doors appeared to have been pushed in causing damage to the weather stripping and middle hinges. Entry does not appear to have been gained.

Theft / Shoplifting

June 10, 2021 (Maple Avenue): The complainant reported that his Trek Roscoe six speed mountain bike with red frame was stolen from Glenfield Park. The bicycle was valued at
$1300.00.

June 10, 2021 (Claremont Avenue): The manager at CVS Pharmacy reported that she observed a female suspect filling a white CVS bag with numerous beauty products. The suspect then left through the front entrance of the store without paying. The manager confronted the suspect outside and advised her to return the bag with goods or she will call the police. The suspect began to argue with manager but ultimately dropped the CVS bag on top of the trash can and then fled east through the CVS parking lot on foot. The suspect was described as a black female in her 30’s, approximately 5’8’ tall, 200 pounds, wearing a gray T-Shirt with a “Betty Boop” image and black leggings.

June 11, 2021 (Orange Road): The victim reported that an unknown person(s) removed the Catalytic Converter to his 1998 Ford E350 cargo van. The vehicle was parked in an Orange Road parking lot during the overnight hours.

June 11, 2021 (Claremont Avenue): The manager at CVS Pharmacy reported observing a known shoplifter enter the business. The suspect reportedly stole $860 worth of energy drinks and vitamins before fleeing the store. He entered a waiting vehicle and fled north on Pine Street. The suspect was described as a heavy-set black male, bald, wearing a red polo shirt with a yellow or gold symbol on the left breast area, blue jeans and white sneakers. The vehicle was a white 2010 Jeep Compass registered out of Newark.

June 11, 2021 (Valley Road): The complainant reported a package containing an engagement ring that had been delivered was reportedly stolen. No description of the ring was provided.

June 12, 2021 (North Fullerton Avenue): The complainant reported that his wife’s Multitrack Trek bicycle was stolen from the rear of a North Fullerton address. The suspect cut the lock prior to taking it.

June 13, 2021 (Park Street): The resident reported that an Amazon package containing clothes was stolen from his porch. Surveillance at the residence shows a male in a “UPS Uniform” approach the porch and take the package. The suspect was described as a male with a medium build, unknown race, wearing a mask, a UPS Shirt, and brown shorts. It is unknown if the male works at UPS.

June 14, 2021 (Morningside Avenue): The resident reported that on June 11th at 12:03 PM an Amazon package was stolen from their porch. The suspect is seen approaching the residence in a dark gray sedan. The suspect is a white male in his late teens or early twenties, wearing gray Champion sweatpants, a light gray beanie, and a Navy blue T-shirt with a white band across the front chest.

Arrests

June 14, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Ms. Carmen Pizarro (46-year-old female, South Amboy) was arrested on open warrants out of Wall Township.

June 15, 2021 – June 22, 2021

Theft

June 15, 2021 (Dodd Street): A resident of Dodd Street reported that he observed a suspicious person in the area. The resident reported that he observed an unknown individual on Dodd Street wearing a UPS delivery uniform. The resident stated that he found it suspicious because the suspect was carrying a FedEx package under his arm and was wearing a UPS uniform. The suspect got into the passenger side of a gray sedan with a Temporary Registration tag and fled the area. The only suspect description provided was a black male wearing a UPS uniform and a yellow vest. While taking the information from the witness, an officer was approached by two residents of Dodd Street reporting that they were missing packages that had been delivered to their homes.

June 18, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reported four checks totaling over $8,000.00 was stolen from the inside of his pickup truck. The vehicle was reported left unlocked at the time.

June 19, 2021 (Maple Avenue): The complainant reported that his unlocked vehicle was entered during the overnight hours. The vehicle was rummaged through. An umbrella, the registration, and insurance cards were removed.

June 19, 2021 (Elmwood Avenue): The resident reported that her unlocked vehicle was entered during the overnight hours. The vehicle was rummaged through. A work identification was stolen.

June 19, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The manager at Faubourg Restaurant reported several bicycles belonging to staff members were stolen from the rear of the property. The total value of the bicycles was approximately $800.00.

June 20, 2021 (Stonebridge Road): The victim reported that his 2019 Kia Stinger was stolen during the overnight hours. The vehicle was reportedly left unlocked and contained cash and credit cards.  The credit cards were used later that day in East Orange.

June 21, 2021 (Pine Street): The complainant reported that a bicycle, described as a black twenty six inch BMX Wormo Fever bike with "WORMO FEVER" written in hot pink on the side rail was stolen from the parking garage of their apartment complex. The bike was valued at $1,200.00.

June 17, 2021 (Carolin Road): A resident reported that she observed through her window two males walk up her driveway and between her vehicle (2016 Porsche MAS, Color Grey) and her neighbor’s vehicle. It is unknown if the males attempted to gain entry to the vehicles. Both vehicles were locked at this time. The two males then ran back down the driveway to enter a vehicle which was already occupied with a driver. The suspect vehicle was described as a red or burgundy Jaguar SUV and fled westbound on Carolin Road. Glen Ridge PD engaged in a motor vehicle pursuit with this vehicle after the occupants were observed attempting to gain entry into parked cars in their town. The pursuit was broken off after the Jaguar entered the Parkway South.

June 22, 2021 – June 29, 2021

Burglary

June 23, 2021 (Parkhurst Place): Montclair Police responded to a residence on Parkhurst Place on a report of a burglary in progress. The victim reported that she was sitting in her sun room towards the rear of the house when she observed an unknown male standing behind a half wall which separates the sunroom and the kitchen. As soon as she made eye contact with the suspect, the victim fled from the house and ran to a neighbor’s house where she contacted the police. At this time, it does not appear as though the suspect was able to take anything. He was described as a black male, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood over his head and a black bandana style mask covering most of his face. His eyes and forehead were exposed. He was between 5'9 and 5'11. An extensive search of the area was conducted, however the suspect was not located.

Theft

June 23, 2021 (Virginia Avenue): The victim reported that his vehicle was entered during the overnight hours.  A Chrome notebook valued at approximately $200.00 was stolen.

June 24, 2021 (Ward Place): A resident of Ward Place reported that he woke up and discovered numerous items from his vehicle scattered over his lawn. Upon investigating he noticed that the passenger side door to his vehicle was open. Nothing was reported missing but the entire car was rummaged through. A second resident alerted police that her vehicle was also entered and ransacked. An undetermined amount of change and some music CDs were taken.

June 25, 2021 (Glenridge Avenue): The victim reported that his white Mongoose Mountain Bike valued at $600 was stolen from the rear of his property. The bicycle was reportedly locked with a chain to a fence post.

June 25, 2021 (Valley Road): The victim reported that he parked his vehicle on the fourth level of the Orange Road Parking Deck. When he returned to it the next day, he discovered a bike and bike lock that were affixed to the rear of his car were gone. The bicycle was described as a men's road bike, white in color, with a red grip strip. The bicycle also has "Ghost" printed along the main frame in Gray writing. It was valued at $1000.00.

June 26, 2021 (Watchung Avenue): A 2006 Mercedes Benz was stolen from the driveway of a Watchung Avenue residence. Surveillance video shows a black male exit a silver SUV at 5:30 AM and attempt to open the door to a second vehicle but it was locked. The suspect then enters the unlocked Mercedes, starts it, and drives away in it. The vehicle was recovered, unoccupied, in Newark, after being involved in a motor vehicle accident.

June 26, 2021 (Orange Road): The victim reported a pair of laptop computers and a pair of shoes were stolen from her vehicle during the overnight hours. The HP Chrome Books were valued at
$500.00 each. The shoes were valued at $45.00.

June 26, 2021 (Church Street): The complainant reported that 50 units of computer Firewall protection had mistakenly been delivered to his old business address. When he went to retrieve the packages, they were no longer there. The items were reportedly valued at $25,020.00.

June 27, 2021 (Highmont Terrace): A 10 ft X 10 ft pop up tent valued at $1000.00 was stolen from the rear of a Ford van during the overnight hours.

June 28, 2021 (Clinton Avenue): The resident reported that his 2016 Acura MDX was stolen from his driveway. He believes he accidently left his key fob in the vehicle. The car was later recovered, unoccupied, in East Orange after being involved in a motor vehicle accident.

June 28, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reported that he left his 2013 Honda Civic running in the parking lot of 7-11. When he returned the vehicle was missing. It was later recovered, parked and unoccupied, in Bloomfield.

Criminal Mischief

June 24, 2021 (Walnut Street): The victim reported that she parked her vehicle in the Walnut Street Parking Lot. When she returned to it the next day, she discovered someone had shattered her front drivers side window.

June 26, 2021 (Willowdale Avenue): The resident reported that while sitting in their porch, an unknown person threw a rock through their first-floor window. No description of the person who threw the rock was provided.

Arrests

June 23, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Marissa Soriano (20 y/o, Middletown, NY) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated stemming from a car stop on Bloomfield Avenue.

June 24, 2021 (Orange Road): Melissa Vicente (24 y/o, Livingston, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a single car motor vehicle accident.

June 26, 2021 (Willowdale Avenue): Officers responded to a Willowdale Avenue residence on a report of an individual attempting to gain access into vehicles parked in their driveway. The resident received an alert on his home surveillance system of motion in the driveway. Upon checking the live footage, he observed a male with a beard wearing a Chicago Bulls hat and red

back pack going through their cars. Officers responded to the area and located Mr. Marvin Mixon (38 y/o, Newark, NJ) matching the description. Mixon was found to be in possession of numerous proceeds form other thefts in the area. He was charged with Burglary, Criminal Attempt, Theft, and Receiving Stolen Property.

June 26, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Ms. Fatimah Leftwich (41 y/o, Montclair) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop.
