April 28, 2020 – May 5, 2020

Theft

April 28, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant stated that an unknown person entered her unlocked vehicle between April 25th and April 28th.A phone cable, house keys, and approximately $10.00 in cash were the reported proceeds.

April 29, 2020 (Grove Street): The resident reported that he discovered a package that had been delivered to his apartment had been opened.The suspect stole $45.00 worth of ordered merchandise.

April 29, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that her package that had been delivered to her apartment building was opened and the merchandise had been removed.The package reportedly contained a coat.The suspect was captured on video surveillance and is described as a black male, 40-50 years old, wearing tan pants, dark puffy jacket, tan hat, and work boats.He was last seen walking south on Mission Street.

April 30, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): An employee of CVS reported observing a male customer concealing approximately $70.00 worth of miscellaneous merchandise.When confronted at the door, the suspect dropped the items and fled eastbound on Bloomfield Avenue.The suspect was described as a white male, 25-35 years old, wearing a black jacket, black sweatpants, black hat, and a mask covering his face.

April 30, 2020 (Claremont Avenue): An elderly victim reported that after shopping at CVS she was approached by an unknown female who offered to assist her with getting her bags to her car.The victim refused and the suspect began to engage in conversation with her.The victim reported that while putting her bags in the car, she observed the suspect going through her purse which was on her passenger seat.When asked what she was doing, the suspect fled.The victim reported approximately $80.00 was missing from her purse.The suspect is described as a white female, 55-65 years old, medium build, wearing a beige ¾ length raincoat, dark colored skirt, and a brown wool cap.The suspect reportedly introduced herself as “Maninna”.

MV Theft

May 2, 2020 (Seneca Place): A 2015 Mercedes Benz ML350 was stolen from the driveway during the overnight hours.The vehicle was unlocked with the key fob inside.The vehicle was recovered later in the day (unoccupied) in Newark.

May 2, 2020 (Upper Mountain Avenue): A 2019 Acura MDX was stolen from an open garage.The vehicle was left unlocked with the key fob inside.

Suspicious Incident

May 2, 2020 (Wellesley Road): The resident that her surveillance cameras captured an unknown female approaching her front porch at approximately 3:00AM and attempt to open a screen door.When unsuccessful, the suspect removed a package from the mailbox and laid down on the porch.At approximately 6:00AM the resident used the microphone to wake the woman, who fled in an unknown direction.She was described as a black female, brown eyes, wearing a black coat, blue sweatpants with light blue stripes, carrying a red purse and red suitcase.

Arrests

May 4, 2020 (Valley Road): Patrol responded to the Episcopal Church of Saint James on a report of a burglary in progress.The caller was viewing live footage of the incident via cell phone.Patrol responded and apprehended Charles Breen (65 years old, Little Falls).Breen was charged with Burglary and Theft of Moveable Property.

Thefts

May 8, 2020 (Princeton Place): Police responded on a report of an attempted theft from a motor vehicle at approximately 8:00 AM. The complainant reports that he was inside his residence when he observed two black males approach his wife’s vehicle. The complainant chased the males away after observing one of them open the driver’s side door to the vehicle. The suspects were last seen fleeing south on Princeton Place and then east on Godfrey Road in a silver BMW. The suspects were further described as 5’9”, wearing hooded sweatshirts and face masks.

May 8, 2020 (Edgemont Road: The complainant reports that an undetermined amount of money was stolen from her motor vehicle.

May 9, 2020 (Undercliff Road): The complainant reports that his motor vehicle was stolen from his driveway. The vehicle had been left unlocked with the key fob inside prior to the theft.

Burglary

May 7, 2020 (New Street): Police responded on a report of a burglary to a basement. The complainant reports that two mountain bikes, valued at a total of $1,000, were stolen from the residence.

Arrests

May 6, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): Shaun Ward, 38, of Fairfield, was taken into custody for outstanding warrants issued by Montclair, North Caldwell, and Roseland.

May 9, 2020 (Maple Avenue): Sean Bowen, 35, of Montclair, was charged with possession of marijuana.

May 9, 2020 (Mid Park Lane): A seventeen-year-old female Montclair resident was charged with possession of marijuana.

May 9, 2020 (Bellevue Avenue): Norberto Gavelan, 46, of Passaic, was charged with driving while intoxicated.

May 11, 2020 (Valley Road): Charles Sanders, 24, of Mount Arlington, was charged with shoplifting merchandise from CVS.

Thefts

May 14, 2020 (Mission Street): The victim reports that packages containing over $600 in merchandise were stolen from the front of his residence.

May 15, 2020 (Park Street): Police responded on a report of three motor vehicles having been rummaged through. Eight dollars in change was stolen from one vehicle, while nothing was reported as missing from the other two vehicles.

May 15, 2020 (Park Street): The complainant reports that a key fob was stolen from her vehicle.

May 15, 2020 (Oak Place): The complainant reports that a bicycle was stolen from the rear of his residence.

May 15, 2020 (Park Street): The complainant reports that two unlocked vehicles were entered and an undetermined amount of loose change was stolen.

May 15, 2020 (Forest Street): The complainant reports that approximately fifty dollars worth of toiletries was stolen from her vehicle.

May 15, 2020 (Forest Street): The victim reports that her vehicle, which may have been left unlocked, was entered and rummaged through. Nothing was reported missing.

May 15, 2020 (Park Street): The complainant reports that approximately $11 in change and $100 in gift cards were stolen from his vehicle.

May 16, 2020 (Midland Avenue): The complainant reports that two unlocked motor vehicles were entered, and $2 in coins was stolen.

May 16, 2020 (Midland Avenue): The complainant reports that his unlocked vehicle was entered and that $5 in quarters and a knife/tool valued at $20 were stolen.

May 16, 2020 (Pine Street): The complainant reports that two bicycles were stolen from the area of his patio.

May 18, 2020 (Grove Street): The complainant reports that his vehicle was stolen from a lot.

Robbery

May 15, 2020 Maple Avenue): The victim reports at approximately 2:20 PM he was approached by a black male who snatched his phone and demanded money. Friends of the victim came to his aid, causing the suspect to drop the phone and flee. The suspect is further described as having a slim build, in his early 20s, last seen wearing a red t-shirt, black jeans, and red and black sneakers.

Vandalism

May 13, 2020 (Orange Road): The complainant reports that a garage had been vandalized. The vandalism consisted of “BBW”, “Jah Roos The World”, “Crack Baby,” and “Way 2 Fed” written in red spray paint.

May 15, 2020 (Porter Park): The caller reported finding three stickers posted to light poles in the park. The stickers read “One Nation Against Invasion” from Patriot Front, a Neo-Nazi, White Supremacist group. The caller stated that he removed the stickers and discarded them.

Suspicious Incident

May 13, 2020 (Alexander Avenue): The complainant reports that two unlocked motor vehicles were rummaged through. No property was reported missing.

May 15, 2020 (Park Street): The complainant reports viewing footage of a person attempting to enter his vehicle at approximately 3:00 AM. The suspect, described as a male, 5’8”-5’10”, last seen wearing a surgical mask, dark clothing, and carrying a backpack, was unsuccessful in gaining entry to the vehicle, which was locked.

Theft from Motor Vehicle

May 20, 2020 (Park Street): The complainant reported that his vehicle was entered and rummaged through.  The vehicle was reportedly left unlocked.  The suspect removed an unknown amount of cash. 

May 21, 2020 (Vera Place): The resident reported that her vehicle was entered during the overnight hours.  The suspect(s) emptied the contents of a backpack and the glove compartment but nothing was reported missing.

May 21, 2020 (North Fullerton Avenue): The resident reported that her unlocked vehicle was entered during the overnight hours.  The suspect stole the complainant’s wallet which was inadvertently left inside the car. 

May 21, 2020 (Park Street): The resident reported her vehicle had been entered during the overnight hours.  The glove compartment and center console were rummaged through and a debit card as well as $10.00 in change were stolen.   

May 24, 2020 (Fessler Place): Two vehicles parked in the homeowners driveway were entered during the overnight hours.  Both vehicles were rummaged through.  The only reported missing items were power cords for small electronics.

Thefts

May 20, 2020 (Glenridge Avenue): An employee of Urban Chicken reported encountering two males taking used cooking oil from his oil drums.  One male reportedly became confrontational when questioned about the theft.  Both suspects fled the scene in a white van with New York Registration.  The oil was valued at approximately $240.00.

May 20, 2020 (Irving Street): The resident reported that unknown person(s) stole the license plates off of her 2005 Ford E3 van.  The resident could not provide a timeframe, only stating that it occurred sometime since mid March.

May 21, 2020 (Greenwood Avenue): The resident reported that an Amazon package that had been delivered to his home was stolen.  The package reportedly contained electronics.

May 22, 2020 (Midland Avenue): The complainant reported that a Giant Roam 3 Disc S Metallic Black bicycle valued at $543.00 was stolen from the side of her home.  There was no suspect description provided.

May 22, 2020 (Norwood Avenue): A FedEx package containing an iPad valued at approximately $430 was stolen from the residents front porch.  There was no suspect description provided.

May 24, 2020 (Union Street): The resident reported multiple delivered packages were stolen from her front porch.  Surveillance images show the suspect to be a black male, thin build, wearing Adidas style pants with white stripes down the sides, a beige ¾ length jacket, black bookbag, and a red hat on backwards.

May 25, 2020 (Forest Street): The resident reported that his black and blue Roadmaster Bicycle was stolen from his property.  The suspect is described as a young black male, grey hooded sweatshirt, red sweatpants with a white stripe, and a blue bandana over his face.

Arrests

May 21, 2020 (Pine Street): Anthony Granger (37 y/o, Newark) was arrested and charged with Possession of CDS.

May 24, 2020 (Maple Avenue): Malik Crews (20 y/o, Montclair) was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct and Possession of CDS
