March 30, 2021 – April 6, 2021

Thefts

March 31, 2021 (Mission Street): The victim reported that between March 22nd and March 27th, a package that had been delivered was stolen from his porch. The package contained a Riddell football facemask valued at $255.00.

April 1, 2021 (Elmwood Avenue): The victim reported that his vehicle was entered between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. A wallet containing numerous credit/debit cards was stolen. The cards were later used at various vendors including Willowbrook Mall.
April 2, 2021 (Union Street): The resident reported that her Vilano Hybrid Road bicycle valued at $480.00 was stolen from his porch. The complainant stated that the bike was secured with a wire lock

Suspicious Incident

April 2, 2021 (The Crescent): An employee of The Crescent Parking Deck reported locating several opened Amazon packages throughout the building. The packages were from different addresses on Bloomfield Avenue and Church Street. A check of the surveillance cameras revealed a black male with a slim build wearing a Covid face covering enter the deck on separate occasions with the packages, opens them, and exits. No victims of package theft were located.

Arrest

April 3, 2021 (Bell Street): Mr. Gregory Earvin (48 y/o, Newark, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop.

April 6, 2021 – April 13, 2021

Theft from Motor Vehicle / Damage to Vehicle

April 7, 2021 (Walnut Street): The complainant reported that his truck was damaged during the overnight hours. It appeared an unknown person threw a glass bottle at the driver’s side window causing the lamented window to crack. Damage was estimated at $175.00.

April 7, 2021 (South Park Street): An unlocked vehicle was entered on South Park Street between 10:45 AM and 3:45 PM. A duffle bag containing approximately $500.00 worth of skin care and cosmetic products was stolen.

April 11, 2021 (Walnut Street): A vehicle parked in a Walnut Street driveway was entered by force. The victim reported receiving a text alert from Volvo at 11:17 PM that his alarm was triggered. Upon checking his vehicle, he observed that two right rear passenger side windows had been shattered.  Missing from the interior of the vehicle was a stethoscope valued at
$225.00.

April 12, 2021 (Lexington Avenue): The complainant reported that an unknown person(s) shattered the rear driver’s side window to his vehicle. In addition, the driver’s side door lock was damaged. It is unknown if the suspect(s) made entry into the vehicle as nothing appeared missing.

April 12, 2021 (Crestmont Road): Management to a Crestmont Road apartment complex reported that three vehicles were damaged and possibly broken into. One vehicle had a rear driver’s side quarter window shattered. It is unknown if entry was made. A second vehicle was left unlocked. The trunk and glove box were discovered open and rummaged through. No items were reported missing. A third vehicle which was left unlocked was rummaged through with nothing reported missing.

Burglary

April 9, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Officers responded to the New Jin Lin Restaurant on a report of a burglary. The owner reported arriving to the business and discovering the front glass door had been kicked in. Surveillance video shows that at 4:34 AM the suspect makes entry into the restaurant by breaking the front door. Moments later he proceeds to the cash register and removes approximately $100.00 in cash. The suspect is described as a black male wearing a dark colored jacket, long pants, dark colored shoes/sneakers, and a dark colored "beanie" winter hat.

Assault

April 9, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Patrol responded to a Bloomfield Avenue apartment on a report of an injured party. They located a 16-year-old juvenile male victim and his juvenile friend in the hallway.  It was reported by the friend that the victim was physically assaulted by an unknown juvenile suspect. The victim was uncooperative and refused to provide any further information on how he was assaulted or any information on his assailant. He was transported by ambulance to Mountainside Hospital for a leg injury. A family member was located and transported to the hospital to meet with the victim.

Arrest

April 7, 2021 (Elm Street): Ms. Kathleen Drake (59 years old, Belleville, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle accident.

April 13, 2021 – April 19, 2021

Criminal Mischief

April 13, 2021 (Prospect Terrace): The complainant reported observing an “America First Patriot Front” sticker affixed to the stop sign. An officer responded and removed the sticker.

Theft from Motor Vehicle

April 13, 2021 (Hartley Street): The victim reported that her parked vehicle was entered between 6:30 PM and 7:15 PM. A wallet containing several credit cards was stolen. The victim later received alerts that her cards had been used at the Bloomfield Exxon and for a PayPal purchase.

Theft

April 14, 2021 (Oak Place): The complainant reported that a package containing $1700.00 worth of clothing had been stolen from her porch. Tracking information revealed the package was delivered on March 24, 2021.

April 18, 2021 (Orange Road): A 2019 BMW X6 was stolen from the driveway of an Orange Road residence. The victim reported that he last saw his vehicle at 7:00 PM the previous night.

April 14, 2021: A 2009 Honda CRV that had previously been reported stolen from Montclair on March 25, 2021 was recovered parked and unoccupied by New Jersey State Police in Newark.

Suspicious Activity

April 19, 2021 (Orange Road): The resident reported that she was outside on the balcony of her apartment when she observed three unknown males attempting to gain entry into vehicles parked in the adjacent parking lot. The resident yelled out to the males who immediately fled on foot towards Plymouth Street. They were described as 15 - 17 year old males, one was wearing a dark jacket with hood up, dark jeans, dark shoes. The second was wearing a white sweatshirt with the hood up, light colored pants, and light shoes. The third was wearing a black jacket with a large red or orange stripe in the shoulder area, dark pants, and dark shoes.

Arrests

April 13, 2021 (Hawthorne Place): Ms. Lucrecia Hodge (55 y/o, Montclair) was charged with Contempt after officers investigating a dispute discovered an outstanding warrant for her arrest.

April 14, 2021 (Claremont Avenue): Ms. Lakiesha Herrill (50 y/o, Newark) was charged with Shoplifting from CVS after employees observed her take approximately $97.00 worth of beauty products from the store shelves and leave without paying. She was located several blocks away.

April 16, 2021 (Lincoln Street): Matthew Okpowe (45 y/o, Newark) was placed under arrest after officers discovered open warrants for his arrest following a motor vehicle stop.

April 16, 2021 (Mount Hebron Road): Daren Ceaser (31 y/o, Monmouth Junction) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a single car motor vehicle accident.

April 20, 2021 – April 27, 2021

Criminal Mischief

April 20, 2021 (Orange Road): An officer conducting a walk through of the South End Business District observed illegible graffiti on a large planter between buildings. The graffiti was only described as black writings

April 21, 2021 (Church Street): A passerby reported that the front door to a residential/commercial building was shattered. The door appeared to have been kicked in. Residents reported hearing a male and female arguing during the overnight hours.

Burglary / Theft

April 21, 2021 (Orange Road): The complainant reported that approximately $100.00 worth of medication that had been delivered had been stolen from her porch. The package was reportedly delivered on April 14, 2021.

April 24, 2021 (Grove Terrace): The resident reported that an unknown person(s) made entry into his detached garage and removed two bicycles. The locks to the bicycles were cut off. The bikes were described as a green Bianchi valued at $959.00 and an Onyx motor bike valued at
$4032.00.

April 24, 2021 (New Street): The complainant reported that his blue and lime green 2020 Yamaha ATV bike was stolen from the back of his pickup truck. The ATV had a “973” sticker on front and a “Yamaha 450” sticker on the side. The ATV was reportedly valued at $12,000.

April 25, 2021 (Christopher Street): The resident reported that a white 2021 Audi Q3 was stolen from his driveway during the overnight hours. The vehicle was recovered, unoccupied, later that day after being involved in a motor vehicle accident in Newark.

April 25, 2021 (Upper Mountain Avenue): A volunteer for the Iris Gardens reported that a female entered the garden at approximately 8:00 AM and removed between 20-30 of the iris flowers and placed them in her purse. The flowers were valued anywhere between $5.00 -
$100.00.

Dispute

April 22, 2021 (Elm Street): The driver of a New Jersey Transit bus reported that a passenger whom he picked up in Newark boarded the bus irate and began berating him. When the passenger exited at Elm and Washington Street in Montclair he spit on the driver. He was described as a black male, black pants, a grey jacket, and a black hooded sweatshirt.

Arrest

April 21, 2021: Luis Alvarez (39 years old, Yonkers, NY) was arrested on an open warrant out of Montclair following a motor vehicle stop.
