BLOTTER 04-06-20

Thefts

March 31, 2020 (Valley Road): An employee at CVS reports that a male left the store shortly after noon without paying for over $115 in merchandise. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 5’9” tall. 30-40 years old, last seen wearing a burgundy sweatshirt and a baseball cap.

April 1, 2020 (Glenridge Avenue): The complainant reports that her Varis mountain bike, valued at $600, was stolen.

April 1, 2020 (Warren Place): The complainant reports that an iPhone was stolen from her motor vehicle.

April 4, 2020 (Notting Hill Way): The complainant reports that her motor vehicle was stolen.

April 3, 2020 (Maple Avenue): The complainant reports that a package containing $200 in merchandise was stolen from his property. A possible suspect is described as a light-skinned black male, 5’8”-5’9”, 140-160 lbs., short hair with twists, last seen wearing glasses.

April 5, 2020 (Maple Avenue): The complainant reports that a purse was stolen from her motor vehicle.

Burglary

March 31, 2020 (Stonebridge Road): The complainant reports that the driver’s side front window to her motor vehicle was broken with a rock and a bag containing gym equipment was stolen from her vehicle

March 28, 2020 (South Mountain Avenue): The complainant reports that a pair of sunglasses and loose change were stolen from his motor vehicle, which had been left unlocked prior to the theft.

March 31, 2020 (Orange Road): The complainant reports witnessing a male enter the complainant’s motor vehicle at approximately 11:00 AM. The suspect fled north on Elm Street when the caller yelled at him. The suspect is described as a black male, possibly teenaged, 5’5”, short black hair, thin build, last seen a red track suit.

March 31, 2020 (Melrose Place): The complainant reports that her vehicle was entered. The center console to the vehicle was rummaged through, but nothing was reported missing at the time of the report.

March 31, 2020 (Wayside Place): The complainant reports that her vehicle was entered, but nothing was reported missing at the time of the report.

Suspicious Person

April 3, 2020 (Hilltop Place): The complainant reports witnessing a male attempting to enter her motor vehicle at approximately 11:00 PM. The suspect is described only as a male last seen wearing jeans and a gray, hooded sweatshirt.

Arrests

April 1, 2020 (Grove Street): Damon Abnathya, 41, was charged with burglary to a motor vehicle.

April 4, 2020 (Midland Avenue): Derron Johnson, 24, of Belleville, was charged with criminal trespass after he was observed leaving a garage on a property where he did not reside.

Burglaries

April 8, 2020 (New Street): The complainant reports that someone had entered his vehicle and stolen over $300 worth of his property that he had left in the vehicle.

April 9, 2020 (S. Fullerton Avenue): An employee at St. Luke’s Church reported that someone had broken into the building. At the time of the report, two bottles of wine were reported as stolen.

April 13, 2020 (Valley Road): An employee of the Montclair Smoke Shop reports that the store was burglarized, with entry gained by using a rock to break the front door glass. Over $1,000 in merchandise was reported as stolen.

April 13, 2020 (Park Street): The complainant reports that someone had entered a motor vehicle and rummaged through the center console. Nothing was reported missing, and the vehicle had been left unlocked prior to the incident.

Robbery

April 7, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reports that at approximately 9:25 PM, he was assaulted by two males, which resulted in one of the males striking him in the head and stealing his phone. The suspects were last seen fleeing south on Maple Avenue. The suspects are described as African-American males, approximately 20 years old, last seen wearing white T- shirts (no further description of clothing). One of the males may have had short braids.

Thefts

April 6, 2020 (Glenridge Avenue): The complainant reports that a package that had been delivered to his residence had been opened, with over $235 worth of merchandise reported as stolen.

April 9, 2020 (Valley Road): An employee at CVS reports that two individuals took over $130 in merchandise and left the store without paying.

April 10, 2020 (Church Street): The complainant reports that a package delivered to him was opened, with approximately $20 in merchandise reported as stolen. Footage indicates that the suspect is a young black male, last seen wearing bright red pants and a jacket with the words “It was all a dream” written in gold on the back.

April 11, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): An employee at CVS reports that a male took over $400 in merchandise and left the store without paying for the items.

April 13, 2020 (Greenwood Avenue): A resident reports that a package containing over $100 in merchandise was stolen from outside her residence.

Suspicious Incident

April 6, 2020 (Elmwood Avenue): The complainant reports that someone had rummaged through her vehicle, which had been left unlocked prior to the incident. Nothing was reported as missing from the vehicle.

April 10, 2020 (Elmwood Avenue): Police responded at approximately 7:00 AM on a report of two individuals attempting to break into vehicles. The suspects are described as two black males. One was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and black track pants while the other was last seen wearing a black coat, blue jeans, and white sneakers. The suspects were last seen running north towards Charles Bullock School.

Arrests

April 6, 2020 (Rosedale Avenue): Vincent Fearon, 38, of Montclair, was charged with resisting arrest for actions that occurred while officers were attempting to arrest him due to an outstanding warrant. An officer suffered minor injuries during the incident.

April 14, 2020 (Grove Street): The complainant reports that his motor vehicle was stolen.

April 15, 20202 (Pine Street): The complainant reports that a package containing $60 in merchandise was stolen from his property.

April 18, 2020 (South Mountain Avenue): The complainant reports that her motor vehicle was stolen from her driveway.

April 18, 2020 (Highland Avenue): The victim reports that $13,500 in jewelry was missing. The property was last seen in December 2019.

April 18, 2020 (Valley Road): The victim reports that a package containing $200 in merchandise was stolen.

April 19, 2020 (Oak Place): The complainant reports that her son’s bicycle was stolen at approximately 1:50 PM. The suspect is described as a light-skinned African-American male, approximately fourteen years old, last seen wearing a blue jacket and a tan hat.

Robbery/Carjacking

April 25, 2020 (Orange Road): At approximately 00:04 hours on April 25, 2020, Montclair Police responded to the area of Orange Road and Pleasant Way on a report of an assault.Responding officers located the victim, a 26-year-old male from East Orange, who had sustained facial injuries.The victim reported that unknown suspects assaulted him and robbed him of his cellphone, wallet, and the vehicle that he was operating (2015 Mercedes Benz).The victim was transported to University Hospital in Newark where he was treated for facial fractures, missing teeth, and head lacerations.The vehicle was recovered, unoccupied, shortly after in West Orange.This incident is an active investigation.Anyone with information, please contact Detective Jamar Jones at (973) 509-4705.

Theft from Motor Vehicle

April 22, 2020 (New Street): The complainant reported that some time between 1500 hours April 20, 2020 and 0950 hours April 22, 2020, an unknown person(s) entered his vehicle and removed approximately $200.00 in various tools.

April 23, 2020 (Maple Avenue): The complainant reported an unknown person(s) entered her unlocked vehicle while it was parked in front of the residence.A wallet containing several bank cards were the reported proceeds.

April 24, 2020 (North Fullerton Avenue): The complainant reported that his unlocked vehicle was entered during the overnight hours.Approximately $5.00 in change was stolen as well as some medication.

Theft

April 22, 2020 (Claremont Avenue): The complainant reported that a package that had been delivered to her building was stolen before she had the chance to retrieve it.The package reportedly contained $120.00 worth of clothing.

Arrests

April 22, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): Ms. Angela Brown (51 y/o, Newark, NJ) was arrested and charged with shoplifting from CVS on Bloomfield Avenue.It was also determined that she had warrants out of Nutley, Edgewater, Union, Cedar Grove, and West Orange.

April 25, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): Mr. Leon Dock (34 y/o, Newark, NJ) was charged with shoplifting from CVS on Bloomfield Avenue.
