Police Blotter: January 3, 2023 – January 10, 2023

Burglary / Theft

January 3, 2023 (Orange Road): The resident reported that an unknown person entered her apartment at some point between December 28, 2022 and January 1, 2023. Entry appears to have been made through the front door. Missing at this time are clothing, jewelry, and personal documents.

January 8, 2023 (Bloomfield Avenue): The manager at Whole Foods reported that a customer entered the store and removed merchandise without paying. Surveillance video shows a white male with facial hair, in his 40’s-50’s, wearing a black jacket and jeans placing several vitamins into his cart and fleeing. The total value of merchandise stolen is $2311.00.

Motor Vehicle Crime

January 4, 2023 (Christopher Street): The owner of a 2006 Honda Accord reported that the Catalytic Converter was stolen off of his vehicle. The theft occurred between 6:00 PM January 3, 2023 and 7:20 AM January 4, 2023.

January 5, 2023 (Tichenor Place): The resident reported that she parked her vehicle in front of her residence and when she returned ten minutes later, she discovered that it had been rummaged through. The keys to the vehicle were stolen along with an unknown amount of change.

January 5, 2023 (Nishuane Road): The resident reported that his BMW S5 that had been parked in his driveway was entered. Surveillance in the area showed that at 8:45 PM, four to five males were seen in the driveway. The video shows one or two males inside of the vehicle and two others standing behind the vehicle in the driveway. Proceeds are unknown.

January 9, 2023 (Harrison Avenue): The resident reported that she was warming up her 2016 Mercedes Benz SCL unattended. When she exited her home, she discovered the vehicle was gone. It was recovered on South 18th Street in Newark later in the day.

January 9, 2023 (Bellevue Avenue): The owner of a 2006 Honda Civic reported that the Catalytic Converter was stolen off of his vehicle. The theft occurred during the overnight hours while the vehicle was parked in the driveway.

Arrest

January 3, 2023 (Claremont Avenue): The victim reported that he was using the Money Gram machine inside of CVS when he placed his keys down. After using the machine, he discovered his keys were missing. When he exited the store, he discovered that his vehicle, a 2008 Toyota Yaris, had been stolen. Officers patrolling the area observed the vehicle in the area of Pine Street and Glenridge Avenue. The officers were able to stop the vehicle. A 19-year-old male from East Orange was arrested and charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Eluding and Resisting Arrest.

Motor Vehicle Crime

January 10, 2023 (Lorraine Avenue): The resident reported that the Catalytic Converter was stolen off of her 2005 Honda CRV. The incident reportedly occurred some time between January 8, 2023 and January 10, 2023. The vehicle was parked in her driveway.

January 10, 2023 (Upper Mountain Avenue): The victim reported that her 2004 Toyota Camry was stolen during the overnight hours. The vehicle was parked, unlocked, in the area of the Iris Gardens. The vehicle contained an undetermined amount of clothing and animal care products.

January 15, 2023 (North Willow Street): The complainant reported that her vehicle was entered during the overnight hours while it was parked in front of her residence. The glove compartment was emptied. Approximately $480.00 in cash as well as a laptop computer was stolen.

Suspicious Incident / Attempted Burglary

January 13, 2023 (Highland Avenue): The resident reported that while reviewing old home surveillance footage, he discovered two individuals attempting to enter his residence from the side door during the overnight hours. One video showed two suspects walking up the side deck of the house to access the side door. One suspect is seen looking through the windows near the side door and appeared to be holding a pry bar. Entry was unsuccessful.

Police Blotter: January 17, 2023 – January 23, 2023

Theft

January 18, 2023 (Glenridge A venue): Employees at ‘White Rabbit Black Heart’ reported that an unknown female entered the store and stole merchandise. The suspect was only described as a female wearing a burgundy shirt, blue jeans, light sneakers with a black jacket and blue mask. She reportedly stole a lantern valued at $105.00.

Motor Vehicle Crime

January 19, 2023 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that she parked her 2022 BMW in Glenmont Square and entered a store. When she returned, she discovered that an Under Armour bag containing a $1500.00 laptop computer had been stolen.

January 21, 2023 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reported that he parked his 2016 BMW on Bloomfield Avenue and entered a store. When he returned the vehicle was no longer there. It was recovered the following day in New Rochelle, New York.

Burglary

January 20, 2023 (Grove Street): Officers responded to Grove Pharmacy on a report of an activated alarm. Upon arrival, they discovered the front window had been shattered. The suspect(s) entered the store and attempted to break into a safe which contained various medications but were unsuccessful. The cash registers were not entered. Nothing was reported missing from the pharmacy.

Arrests

January 18, 2023 (Graham Terrace): Officers responded to the areas of Graham Terrace and Stonebridge Road on a report of two males attempting to gain entry into parked vehicles.

Responding officers located the two males exiting a driveway on Stonebridge Road. Surveillance footage in the area showed the two males attempting to make entry into several

vehicles. The two males, both juveniles from Newark and East Orange, were charged with Criminal Attempt Burglary.
