Police Blotter: July 4, 2023 – July 11, 2023

Entered Vehicles

During the week of July 4, 2023 through July 11, 2023, five reports of vehicles entered were taken from Valley Road, Charles Street, Essex Avenue, and Washington Avenue. Time frames in the incidents ranged from early morning hours and midafternoon. The suspects were described as teenage males wearing masks.

Theft

July 9, 2023 (Bloomfield Avenue): The attendant at the Shell Gas Station reported that a white SUV pulled up to the gas pumps. The vehicle was occupied by two males. The driver requested to have the vehicle filled with gas and requested to pay cash. While servicing another customer, the attendant observed the driver of the white SUV remove the nozzle and flee east on Bloomfield Avenue without paying for $70.53 worth of gas.

Burglary

July 10, 2023 (Park Street): The resident reported being out of state for two weeks. When he returned home, he discovered his home had been burglarized. Entry appears to have been gained by force through a basement bathroom window. Once inside, the suspect(s) rummaged through all rooms including the second-floor bedrooms. Missing at the time of the report is jewelry, purses, and gold coins. The estimated total value of items stolen was $15,000.

Motor Vehicle Crime

July 11, 2023 (Park Terrace): The resident reported that his 2019 Acura RDX was stolen from his driveway during the overnight hours. The vehicle was replaced with a 2017 Hyundai Elantra which was left idling in the street. The Elantra was determined to be stolen from Newark, NJ.

Police Blotter: July 11, 2023 – July18, 2023

Entered Vehicles

During the week of July 11, 2023 through July 18, 2023, vehicles were entered on Pleasant Avenue, Rosedale Avenue, Highland Avenue, and Undercliff Road. In most cases, the vehicles were left unlocked. In one incident, the passenger side window was shattered and a Loius Vuitton bag valued at $1000.00 was stolen.

Counterfeiting

July 11, 2023 (Church Street): The complainant reported that over the course of several weeks, an individual entered his business, Wall Flats, and passed counterfeit $100.00 bills. The suspect received change during each transaction. At this time, the loss to the business is approximately
$225.00.

Motor Vehicle Crime

July 12, 2023 (Highland Avenue): The resident reported that his 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan was stolen from his driveway during the overnight hours. It was recovered the following day on Allen Street in Irvington.

July 13, 2023 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that his 2019 Honda Accord was stolen while he left it unattended to pick up a food order. Upon exiting, he observed it fleeing east on Bloomfield Avenue. The vehicle contained his iPhone 14. The vehicle was recovered the following day in Newark.

July 17, 2023 (Maple Avenue): The complainant reported that she was walking her father to the rear of the residence leaving her aunt sitting in the rear of a 2023 Porsche Macan. The victim reported three males wearing sweatshirts covering their faces entered the Porsche and attempted to drive away. When the victim screamed and the suspects saw that the vehicle was occupied, they fled from the vehicle and entered Glenfield Park.

Suspicious Incident

July 14, 2023 (Valley Road): At approximately 4:00 AM, an officer conducting store checks in the area of Valley Road and Van Vleck Street observed a suspicious male wearing a ski mask peering into the window of Krauzers. When the officer approached, the male quickly entered the passenger side of a grey BMW SUV. The officer attempted to stop the BMW, which fled at a high rate of speed north on Valley Road. A second officer observed the fleeing BMW turn onto Appleton Place (dead end street). Two males fled from the vehicle on foot and evaded capture. The BMW was determined to be stolen from East Rutherford.       Entry into Krauzers was not successful.

Gas and Go

July 14, 2023 (Bloomfield Avenue): A black Acura ILX entered the Shell gas station and had the vehicle filled with $50.00 in premium gasoline. The vehicle fled east on Bloomfield Avenue without paying. The vehicle was occupied by four individuals in their mid-twenties.

July 17, 2023 (Bloomfield Avenue): A newer model Lamborghini SUV with temporary registration entered the Shell gas station and received $107.00 worth of gas. The vehicle fled east on Bloomfield Avenue without paying.

July 18, 2023 (Valley Road): A black Audi occupied by three males received $56.00 worth of gas from the Lukoil Station. The vehicle fled west on Lorraine Avenue after not making payment. The Audi was determined to be a stolen vehicle from Cedar Grove.

Burglary

July 17, 2023 (Glenridge Avenue): The complainant reported that someone entered an abandoned building through the rear, most likely by pushing open a boarded-up window. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole two glass window panes and fled through the first-floor rear door.
The window panes measured approximately 5'x2' and were made of stained glass. The complainant valued them at approximately $2500.00 each. In addition, a shop light valued at
$100.00 was stolen.

Arrest

July 14, 2023 (Park Street): A 44-year-old male from Montclair was charged with Defiant Trespass and Disorderly Conduct following a dispute on Park Street.

Police Blotter: July 18, 2023 – July25, 2023

Entered Vehicles

During the week of July 18, 2023 through July 25, 2023, vehicles were entered on Upper Mountain Avenue, Plymouth Street, and Hill Top Place. In most cases, the vehicles were left unlocked. Surveillance in the area of Upper Mountain Avenue revealed thee suspects wearing masks arrived in an unknown white SUV and rummaged through the vehicle for approximately fifteen seconds. On Hill Top Place, the suspects entered a landscaping truck and removed the workers iPhone, wallet, and gold necklace.

Theft

July 19, 2023 (Glenridge Avenue): An employee of Urban Chicken reported the theft of cooking oil from the rear of his business. Two male suspects were observed taking the oil and entering a tan 2003 GMC Savannah. The suspects were described as: (Driver) black male, approximately thirties or forties, muscular build, wearing a skull hat, orange long sleeve shirt and beige Pants. Suspect two (passenger) was a black male, approximately twenty years old, wearing a long sleeve blue hooded sweatshirt, blue shoes, and blue pants.

July 19, 2023 (Claremont Avenue): CVS on Claremont Avenue reported three teenage females entered the store and began filling their bags with merchandise. All three females fled. One dropped her bag prior to fleeing. CVS estimated that $450.00 worth of merchandise was stolen.

Motor Vehicle Crime

July 19, 2023 (Cooper Avenue): A 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee was stolen from Cooper Avenue during the overnight hours. The vehicle was recovered by the NYPD the following day. Two juvenile males from Newark was placed under arrest.

Arrest

July 23, 2023 (Bloomfield Avenue): A 49-year-old male from Fort Lee, NJ was charged with Assault stemming from a dispute on Bloomfield Avenue.

Theft

July 25, 2023 (Bloomfield Avenue): The manager at CVS Pharmacy reported that he observed male party in the store grabbing items off multiple shelves and placing them inside a canvass hallmark bag. He was last seen on South Park Street. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his forties, wearing a camouflage style jacket, black pants, black sneakers, and a black hat. The male was carrying a hallmark bag as well as a black backpack. The manager was able to determine that there were forty-four items missing from the shelves where the male suspect was seen. These items included Olay moisturizers, Loreal moisturizers, and miscellaneous makeup products totaling $580.66.

July 26, 223 (Church Street): An employee of Montclair Antique Center discovered a white gold diamond ring valued at $1450.00 was missing. After reviewing surveillance footage, she discovered the theft occurred on July 19, 2023 when a male and female suspect were seen taking the item.

Motor Vehicle Crime

July 25, 2023 (Bloomfield Avenue): A driver for Uber Eats reported that she left her vehicle running and unattended while she entered ‘Tacoria’ to pick up an order. When she exited, she observed her vehicle fleeing north on North Willow Street. It was recovered in Paterson, NJ the following day. A 20-year-old male from Garfield and an 18-year-old male from North Arlington were charged by Passaic County Authorities.

July 26, 2023 (Park Street): A 2017 BMW X5 was stolen from a driveway on Park Street. The vehicle had been left unattended and running. It was recovered on July 30, 2023 in Newark.

July 27, 2023 (Central Avenue): The victim reported that her 2021 BMW X7 was stolen during the overnight hours. It was recovered the following day by the NYPD. Three males from Newark were charged by the NYPD.

July 27, 2023 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that his 2023 Volkswagen Atlas was stolen from the Palace Car Wash. He reported that while he was waiting for it to dry, two Hispanic males entered the vehicle and fled east on Bloomfield Avenue. It was recovered on August 1, 2023 in Newark.

Entered Vehicles

During the week of July 25, 2023 through August 1, 2023, unlocked vehicles were entered on Alexander Avenue, Claremont Avenue, and Bloomfield Avenue. In one of the Claremont Avenue incidents, entry was forced by shattering a passenger side window. The victim reported six rings valued at a total of about $3,000.00 and a necklace, with an attached pendant, valued at around $1,500.00 were stolen from the car.

Burglary

July 27, 2023 (Llewellyn Road): The resident reported that he discovered several items missing from his residence. First, $2,000.00 and bottles of alcohol were reported missing. Next, he discovered money missing from his wife’s purse and his daughter’s Louis Vitton purse was missing. Upon investigating, he discovered a kitchen window open and a Home Depot bucket underneath the window. It appears this is how the suspect made entry into the home.

Robbery

July 29, 2023 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reported that he was sitting on a bench in the area of Park Street and Bloomfield Avenue when he was approached by a white male described as 5'11” in height, medium build, while wearing a black shirt. The suspect began verbally harassing the victim for money. The suspect eventually struck the victim in the face and stole his wallet which contained $120.00 in cash. The suspect fled north on Park Street.

Arrests

July 25, 2023 (Glenridge Avenue): A 51-year-old male from Montclair was charged with Burglary after being observed entering unlocked vehicles on Glenridge Avenue.

July 28, 2023 (Glenridge Avenue): Officers responded to a Glenridge Avenue address on a report of a male sleeping on the sidewalk. Officers determined the male should be medically evaluated. Montclair EMS responded and the male refused treatment and walked away. Shortly thereafter, the male returned and spat in the face of the EMS worker. The suspect then fled on foot but was apprehended by Officers. A 43-year-old male from Newark was charged with Aggravated Assault (Throwing Bodily Fluids) and Resisting Arrest.
