Police Blotter: January 31, 2023 – February 7, 2023

Motor Vehicle Crime

February 1, 2023 (North Fullerton Avenue): The complainant reported that she left her 2015 Mercedes Benz 350 running and unattended in the North Fullerton Parking Deck. Upon returning to her parking spot, she discovered her vehicle leaving the lot, turning north on North Fullerton Avenue. The vehicle was recovered hours later by the Essex County Sheriffs Department in East Orange. Two handguns were recovered from the vehicle and one subject (no further information) was apprehended after a foot pursuit.
 
February 5, 2023 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reported that his 2022 Mercedes Bans GLC was left running in front of Crockett’s Fish Fry. When he returned he discovered the vehicle had been stolen. Tracking devices last updated that the vehicle was in the area of Newark and Irvington.

Burglary / Theft

February 2, 2023 (Fairfield Street): The resident reported that at some point between November and January, approximately $4,000.00 worth of landscaping slates were stolen from her rear yard. The slates were estimated to weigh 80 pounds each.
 
February 4, 2023 (Glenridge Avenue): Patrol responded to Glen Willow Lofts on a noise complaint. The building is currently under construction and vacant. Upon arrival they observed approximately 100 juveniles exiting the main entrance. A walk though of the building was conducted to locate and disperse any remaining individuals. Two apartments appeared to have been entered by the juveniles as multiple bottles and trash was located throughout. It appears entry was gained after the individuals used a rock to shatter a glass sliding door. The Montclair Fire Department and building management arrived to secure the building and repair the damage.
 
February 6, 2023 (North Mountain Avenue): The victim reported that he ordered an Apple Computer and computer parts. He was notified that the items had been delivered by UPS. Less than a minute later, he went to his front door to retrieve the package and discovered it was gone. After contacting the driver and speaking with him, it was learned that an unknown suspect approached the UPS driver outside of the residence with fraudulent identification containing the victim’s information. The suspect signed for the items and fled. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his late forties to early fifties, slim build, approximately 5'7”-5'10” tall, with a light beard wearing a button-down shirt, dress pants, and dress shoes.

Police Blotter: February 7, 2023 – February 14, 2023

Burglary

February 7, 2023 (North Mountain Avenue): The resident reported that when he arrived at his property, he discovered an unknown person(s) had entered his home and caused significant damage. Entry appears to have been made through an unlocked basement door. Once inside, the suspect plugged the kitchen sink and turned the water all the way on. Damage to the home consisted of the kitchen floor becoming warped, the basement ceiling collapsing, and several inches of water in the basement.

Motor Vehicle Crime

February 10, 2023 (Lackawanna Plaza): The complainant reported that he parked his 2003 Honda Accord in the Lackawanna Plaza parking lot overnight. When he returned, he discovered that the passenger side tire and rim had been removed. The car was found to be propped up on a rock.

February 12, 2023 (Wilfred Street): The victim reported that his yellow 2012 Ducati Streetfighter motorcycle was stolen from his driveway during the afternoon hours. The motorcycle was reportedly parked in the rear of the driveway.

Suspicious Incidents

February 11, 2023 (Lorraine Street, Bellevue Avenue, Valley Road): On February 11, 2023, patrol units responded to three separate incidents of packages containing unknown white powder being located. The first occurred in the Bellevue Lorraine Parking Lot where an officer located a zip lock baggie containing the unknown substance. Later in the day officers responded to Lorraine Avenue after a woman discovered nine 2.5 x 3.5 manila envelopes with "69" written in black marker, laying on the sidewalk. Four of the envelopes contained a small black plastic straw, a single white plastic keycard, and a sealed clear plastic baggy containing an unknown white powdery substance. Three of the envelopes were marked “B” and contained pills. The remaining envelopes were marked “C” and contained white powder. An additional two envelopes were located later in the day on Valley Road. They were marked “C” and contained a similar powder.

Arrests

February 8, 2023 (Bloomfield Avenue): A 28-year-old male from Newark was charged with Theft of Services and Hindering Apprehension following a dispute at Popeye’s in Lackawanna Plaza.

February 12, 2023 (Glenridge Avenue): A 25-year-old male from Montclair was arrested after officers responded to a disturbance. The male was found to have outstanding warrants out of Montclair.

Police Blotter: February 14, 2023 – February 21, 2023

Suspicious Incident

February 14, 2023 (Elm Street): The landlord reported that he was inspecting the rear of the property and discovered a plastic bottle and plastic bag that was burnt near the central air conditioning units. It also appeared that the wires to the air conditioning unit appeared to have been burnt. The incident was turned over to fire officials with the Montclair Fire Department.

Motor Vehicle Crime

February 15, 2023 (Bloomfield Avenue): A 2021 Acura ILX was stolen from Bloomfield Avenue after the owner left it running and entered a store. She stated that she observed two juvenile males dressed in all black wearing blue face masks enter her vehicle and flee westbound on Bloomfield Avenue. The vehicle was recovered the following day, unoccupied, in Newark.

Theft

February 16, 2023 (North Willow Street): Employees at Ah Pizz! reported a theft of approximately $820.00 in cash. The employee reported that he was counting money near the front of the store and walked away from the counter briefly. When he returned, the money was gone. Surveillance footage shows the suspects to be a male and a female. The male was described as being in his twenties, approximately 5'10" tall, stocky build, possibly of Indian or Guyanese decent. The female was described as being in her twenties also of possible Indian or Guyanese decent.

Assault

February 19, 2023 (North Fullerton Avenue): The victim reported that she was sitting on a bench on North Fullerton Avenue when she was attached by two other females. She stated that as a result she sustained multiple minor injuries including swelling and slight bruising around her right eye, a small laceration on her right hand, and palpable swelling on the top of her head. She described the suspects only as two females, one wearing sneakers, black sweat pants, a pink hooded sweatshirt, and a brown coat. The second was wearing brown Ugg boots, black sweat

pants, and a black hooded sweatshirt. She was transported to Mountainside Hospital by Montclair Ambulance Unit for treatment.
