November 30, 2021 – December 7, 2021

Thefts

November 30, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that an unknown person stole her wallet from her vehicle while she was inside of the Shell gas station. She later received an alert that her credit cards were being used at a Walgreen’s in Bloomfield, NJ.

November 30, 2021 (Highland Avenue): The resident reported that three Amazon packages that had been delivered to her home were stolen. The merchandise totaled approximately $165.00.

November 30, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reported that his wallet was stolen from his vehicle while he was inside of Whole Foods Market. He later discovered over $2000.00 in unauthorized transactions to his debit cards.

December 2, 2021 (Franklin Place): The resident reported that his vehicle was entered and rummaged through during the early morning hours. Nothing was reported missing. Ring surveillance shows a black male in a grey sweatshirt inside of the vehicle at 6:30 AM.

December 3, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reported that her wallet and iPhone were stolen from her vehicle while she was inside of Panera Bread. The vehicle was reportedly left unlocked.

December 4, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The owner of ALK Auto Service reported that he arrived at his garage and observed an unknown male hiding behind a vehicle that was being worked on. The unknown male than fled the shop on foot. The owner then discovered approximately $500 in cash missing from a filing cabinet. The suspect was described as a black male, thin build, approximately 40-50 years of age, wearing a black jacket with hood, black pants and a mustache.

December 4, 2021 (South Fullerton Avenue): The victim reported that the catalytic converter was stolen from his 2014 Toyota Prius. The vehicle was parked in the parking deck since November 20, 2021.

December 4, 2021 (South Fullerton Avenue): The victim reported that the catalytic converter was stolen from her 2008 Toyota Prius while it was parked in the South Fullerton Parking Deck.

December 5, 2021 (Grove Street): The resident reported that his 2021 Jeep Compass was stolen from his driveway during the overnight hours. Surveillance video shows three males enter the vehicle at 3:31 AM and flee east on Prescott Avenue.

December 6, 2021 (Pine Street): The resident reported that a package containing $50.00 worth of clothing was stolen from the common hallway of her building.

Armed Subject

December 6, 2021 (Mission Street): Patrol responded to Mission Street on a report of two males arguing in the street. One male reportedly brandished a handgun during the course of the argument. Witnesses reported observing two males arguing. At one point, one of the males removed a gun from his waist band and used the butt end of the gun to shatter the windshield of a Nissan Maxima parked on the side of the road. The armed male then fled on foot towards New Street. He was described as a black male, wearing green pants, a green top, and a black jacket. The incident is currently under investigation.

Carjacking

December 1, 2021 (Stonebridge Road): The victim reported that her 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee was running in the driveway of a Stonebridge Road residence at 6:45 AM. The victim reported that she was standing nearby when she observed a thin black male wearing all black run up to her car and enter it. It appears as though the male exited a newer model white Mercedes SUV. The victim reported that she ran up to her car and entered the front passenger seat to confront the suspect. The suspect was continuously putting the car in drive and reverse while the two struggled to regain control of the vehicle. The suspect then pushed the victim out of the car, causing an injury to her nose. The suspect then fled the scene in the Jeep south on Stonebridge Road. The vehicle was recovered on December 2, 2021, parked and unoccupied on Duane Street in Orange, NJ. The victim refused any medical treatment. December 6, 2021 (Melrose Place): At 7:26 PM, patrol units were dispatched to a Melrose Place residence on a report of an armed carjacking. The victim reported that she returned home and was exiting her 2021 Porsche Cayenne when two unknown males approached her. One of the males was armed with a handgun and demanded she get out of the car and give him her purse, phone, and keys. The victim complied. One of the males fled down her driveway with her purse while the other male fled in her vehicle. A description of the vehicle was broadcast to all units and surrounding police agencies. Minutes later, the Essex County Sheriff’s Department located the vehicle travelling east on Route 280 in East Orange. The vehicle got caught in heavy traffic in the area of First Street in Newark where the suspect bailed out of the Porsche and fled on foot. Sheriff Officers gave chase and apprehended a 23-year-old male from Newark who was ultimately charged. Please refer to the Essex County Sheriff’s Department for further information regarding this arrest. This incident is still under investigation. December 7, 2021 – December 14, 2021

Thefts

December 7, 2021 (Church Street): Representatives from Cub Scout Pack 12, who sell Christmas Tress in a parking lot on Church Street, reported that twenty-three trees were missing and not accounted as sold. They were last seen on November 28, 2021. The trees were valued at between $75.00 and $95.00 each.

December 7, 2021 (Haddon Place): The homeowner reported that his home surveillance system captured an individual entering his vehicle at 2:30 AM. The vehicle was rummaged through however nothing was reported missing at this time.

December 9, 2021 (New Street): The resident reported that a package that had been delivered to her residence was stolen. Home surveillance video shows a black male, wearing dark colored baseball cap, a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and light-colored jeans, exit a dark colored vehicle. The male then takes the package, returns to his car, and flees north on New Street.

December 13, 2021 (Hawthorne Place): The resident reported that he ordered an iPad mini and when it was delivered, the box was empty. Upon inspecting the box, it appeared as though the seals on the box were cut.

Recovered Stolen Vehicles

December 7, 2021 (Grove Street): A 2021 Black Jeep Compass that had been stolen from a driveway on Grove Street December 5, 2021 was recovered in Newark. The vehicle had been involved in a shooting in Newark and recovered unoccupied.

December 7, 2021 (Macopin Avenue): A 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan that was stolen on November 22, 2021 was recovered unoccupied at Branch Court and Allen Lane in Newark.

December 10, 2021 (Mount Vernon Road): A 2021 Ford Explorer stolen from a Mount Vernon Road residence was recovered on Elizabeth Avenue in Newark.

Burglary Attempt

December 13, 2021 (Mission Street): The resident reported that while at work, he was alerted by his juvenile son that someone was repeatedly ringing the doorbell and then began kicking the door. The suspect(s) were not able to make entry successfully. The door frame sustained damage by the dead bolt lock.

Arrests

December 9, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Officers responded to the Exxon Gas Station on a report of an individual threatening a worker with a knife. Patrol arrived and located Mr. Van Ray (49 years old, Montclair) following the employee, who was retreating. Officers located an orange handled razor blade in Ray’s possession. Ray was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Aggravated Assault.

December 9, 2021 (North Fullerton Avenue): Carole Duffy (57 years old Carlsbad, CA) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated after striking a marked patrol car at the intersection of North Fullerton Avenue and Walnut Street.

December 14, 2021 – December 21, 2021

Thefts/Attempted Theft

December 15, 2021 (Harrison Avenue): The owner of a 2014 silver Dodge Durango reported that his vehicle was stolen from his driveway overnight. The vehicle contained approximately
$2000.00 worth of mechanics tools. The vehicle was recovered, unoccupied, in Newark on December 16, 2021.

December 19, 2021 (Argyle Road): The resident reported that an unknown person(s) entered his 2021 BMW X3 during the overnight hours. The vehicle was rummaged through and a pair of sunglasses was stolen.

December 20, 2021 (Clinton Avenue): The resident reported that she parked her 2018 Audi in front of her residence and was in the process of unloading packages from it when she observed an unknown male inside of the vehicle. The male then ran to an awaiting vehicle and fled north on Clinton Avenue at a high rate of speed. The suspect was described as a young black male, thin build, 5’07” tall, wearing a hooded sweatshirt and mask. The fleeing vehicle was only described as a red or maroon sedan.

December 20, 2021 (Greenwood Avenue): The resident reported that a package that had been delivered to his residence was stolen. An email alert reported the package was delivered at 11:45 AM. The package contained $75.00 worth of merchandise.

Arrests

December 17, 2021 (Valley Road): Phillip Lively (38 years old, East Orange, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop.

December 18, 2021 (Clinton Avenue): Jansen Lambie (53 years old, Montclair, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop.

December 18, 2021 (Irving Street): Francky Badio (46 years old, Bloomfield, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle accident.

December 20, 2021 (Llewellyn Road): Gelmin Mendoza-Garcia (30 years old, Orange, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle accident.

December 21, 2021 – January 4, 2022

Motor Vehicle Thefts/Attempted Thefts

December 23, 2021 (Valley Road): A 2018 Toyota Highlander reported stolen from Elizabeth, NJ was recovered, parked and unoccupied, in the parking deck to Valley/Bloom.

December 25, 2021 (Lackawanna Plaza): A 2013 silver BMW i328 was stolen from Lackawanna Plaza. The complainant reported that he was inside of Popeyes and when he exited the vehicle was gone. The vehicle was recovered unoccupied on Heller Parkway in Newark on December 26, 2021.

December 25, 2021 (Montclair Avenue): The resident reported that a package containing furniture that had been delivered to his home was stolen. The package was delivered while the homeowner was away on vacation.  When he returned, the package was gone.

December 26, 2021 (Montclair Avenue): The resident reported that his 2018 Audi Q7 was stolen from in front of his home. The victim was in the process of loading his vehicle with luggage and the key fob was inside one of the bags. This vehicle was recovered by Clifton Police on December 27, 2021.

December 26, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reported that his 2000 Jeep Cherokee, silver in color, was stolen from the TD Bank parking lot. The vehicle was stolen any time between December 12, 2021 and the time it was reported. After being reported stolen, it was recovered in Jersey City on January 2, 2022.

December 27, 2021 (Marquette Road): The resident reported that his 2019 Volvo S60 was stolen from his driveway. A Volvo app on his phone showed the time of theft to be 2:20 AM. The vehicle was reportedly unlocked.

December 27, 2021 (Valley Road): A 2005 Subaru Forrester was stolen from a driveway on Valley Road during the overnight hours. The vehicle was left unlocked with the keys fob inside. The owners were able to locate the vehicle on their own, parked and unoccupied, on Mission Street later in the day.

December 27, 2021 (Bellevue Avenue): An employee at Cold Stone Creamery reported that a customer had stolen the tip jar from the business. Surveillance video shows a white or Hispanic female wearing a blue jacket and with a beige knitted hat enter the business and before being tended to, take possession of the jar and flee.

December 28, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that his vehicle was entered at some point between midnight and 1:00 AM. A wallet containing credit cards and a purse were reported stolen. An unknown person attempted to use one of the stolen cards at CVS in Cedar Grove at 4:00 AM.

Suspicious Incidents

December 24, 2021 (Emerson Place): A resident of Emerson Place reported observing two males walking down his street attempting to open door handles of several parked cars. When confronted, they ran east on Emerson Place and then south on Valley Road. They were described as two black males in their teens, approximately 5’08” tall, wearing all black, with black adidas pants.

December 25, 2021 (Lloyd Road): The resident reported that she observed an unknown male attempting to enter her vehicle while it was parked in her driveway. The suspects arrived in a Dodge Durango. The victim pressed the panic button on her key fob which caused the suspects to flee in the Durango. A responding officer located the Durango and a silver BMW fleeing the scene east on Bloomfield Avenue at a high rate of speed. The officer attempted to stop the vehicles but they refused, travelling into Glen Ridge. It was later determined the BMW was the vehicle stolen from Lackawanna Plaza, prior to it being reported stolen.

December 27, 2021 (Christopher Street): Officers patrolling the area of Christopher Street and Montclair Avenue due to the increase in car thefts observed a 2018 Audi Q7 reported stolen the previous day parked in the middle of the street with its lights off. A male was seen running from a driveway and entered the passenger side of the Audi which fled towards Grove Street. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle however, it refused and continued west on Bloomfield Avenue and north on Valley Road. Officers lost sight of the vehicle as it entered Clifton.

Lewdness

December 26, 2021 (Carey’s Woods): The complainant reported that she was walking her dog on Llewellyn Road in the area of Orange Road when she observed what she believed to be a male masturbating in the wooded area. She returned home and contact the police. The area was checked however the male was not located. He was described as a white male, unknown age, medium build, approximately 5'9" tall, wearing a dark orange/red color wool knit style winter hat, dark athletic style pants, dark puffer style jacket.

Arrest

December 21, 2021 (Orange Road): Daniel Ferguson (43 years old, Montclair) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a single car motor vehicle accident.
