November 24, 2020 – December 1, 2020

Theft

November 25, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): The manager at CVS Pharmacy reported approximately $740 worth of merchandise was stolen from the store. The incident reportedly occurred between 4:00PM and 7:30 PM after the shelves were fully stocked. There was no suspect description provided.

November 27, 2020 (Essex Avenue): The complainant reported that she left her bicycle unsecured at Woodman Field for thirty minutes and when she returned it was missing. The bicycle was described as a white 29” SE Big Ripper BMX Cruiser with a "BIG RIPPER" written on the middle of its frame. It was valued at $750.

November 28, 2020 (Lackawanna Plaza): The complainant reported that he left his wallet in his vehicle for a few minutes while he ran into a store. When he returned the wallet, which contained credit cards, were missing. He was alerted that the credit cards were used at the Mission Street Mini Mart however the transactions were declined.

November 29, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): The manager at CVS Pharmacy reported that an unknown person stole approximately 5 tubes of toothpaste from the business. The suspect was described as a black male 6’0” - 6'2” feet tall, 170 lbs., wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a gray vest, khaki shorts with red pants underneath.

November 30, 2020 (Cedar Avenue): The victim reported that a package containing tools that had been delivered to his home was stolen between 12:00PM and 5:00PM. There is no suspect description.

Vandalism

November 28, 2020 (New Street): The victim reported that her vehicle, which was parked in the rear of her residence, was vandalized by an unknown person with an unknown object. The damage consisted of a shattered windshield, a dent on the passenger side hood, and a dent on the front passenger side fender.

Attempted Burglary

November 28, 2020 (Elm Street): The resident reported that an unknown person attempted to gain entry into her residence through an unlocked porch window during the overnight hours. Both screens were pushed up however, the suspect was unable to enter the residence.

Arrest

November 28, 2020 (Watchung Avenue): Mr. Leonelle Silvi (37 year old, Newark, NJ) was charged with Defiant Trespass.

December 1, 2020 – December 8, 2020

Theft from Motor Vehicle

December 2, 2020 (Valley Road): The complaint reported that a bag containing numerous articles of clothing was stolen from her vehicle between November 29th and the time of the report. She was unsure if the vehicle was locked or not.

December 5, 2020 (South Park Street): The complainant reported that her unlocked vehicle was entered during the overnight hours. The suspect removed between $20.00 and $100.00 in cash from the glove compartment.

Burglary/Attempted Burglary

December 2, 2020 (Greenwood Avenue): The residents reported that their apartment was burglarized. Entry appears to have been gained through a first-floor window. The victims reported that the suspect(s) took various pieces of handmade jewelry and approximately
$1500.00 in cash.

December 2, 2020 (Lexington Avenue): The complainant reported that an unknown person(s) attempted to enter her residence. The residence was completely vacant at the time of the incident. The suspects attempted to make entry by forcing the front two doors open, however a padlock prevented the suspect(s) from gaining entry. Both doors and the surrounding molding sustained damage.

December 3, 2020 (Claremont Avenue): The victim reported that his storage unit was entered between 9:00AM and 2:00PM. The garage door leading to the shed where the storage unit was located was accidently left open. The suspects removed a 1989 Nishiki Bushwacker mountain bike with an estimated value of $200.00. The bike was described as green and black in color with Nishiki written in white letters on the frame.

MV Theft

December 5, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reported that he was making food deliveries and while making a delivery, he left his car (2010 Toyota Camry) running while unattended.
Upon returning to his vehicle he observed two black males entering the vehicle and fleeing west on Bloomfield Avenue before making an illegal right turn onto Glenridge Avenue and continuing down the wrong way of the one-way portion towards Forest Street. The vehicle was later recovered, parked and unoccupied, in Newark, NJ.

Robbery

December 1, 2020 (Mission Street): The victim reported that while walking on Mission Street he was assaulted by four to five unknown individuals. The suspects reportedly pushed him to the ground and went through his pockets, taking a set of car keys. The suspects then located and stole the vehicle, a 2019 Dodge Caravan. The victim sustained injuries to his face but refused medical attention. The vehicle was recovered the next day unoccupied on Woodland Avenue in Montclair. The victim was unable to provide a description of the suspects because he was attacked from behind.

December 7, 2020 (Cloverhill Place): The victim reported that she was walking to work north on Cloverhill Place. Upon reaching the intersection of Cloverhill Place and Grove Terrace, she was approached by two males. One male was armed with a taser gun and demanded her wallet. The victim turned over $20.00 in cash and the suspects fled south on Cloverhill Place. Both suspects were only described as two dark skinned black males, in their late teens or early twenties, 5'8” tall, medium build, wearing face masks, dark colored hooded sweat shirts and pants. The taser gun was only described as black in color.

Arrests

December 5, 2020 (Madison Avenue): Patrol responded to a 911 call of a male breaking into a vehicle which was parked in the resident’s driveway. A description of the suspect was broadcast to responding units. Officers located and arrested Amilcar Symister (32 years of age, Montclair, NJ) on Orange Road. Symister was found to have the stolen proceeds on him. He was charged with Burglary and Theft and released.

December 6, 2020 (Grove Street): Nahel Sabla (24 year old female, Elmwood Park, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop.

December 8, 2020 – December 15, 2020

Theft

December 8, 2020 (Charles Street): A Charles Street resident reported observing two individuals walking on the street and taking a package off of her neighbor’s porch. She yelled at them and the male suspect placed the package back before continuing east on Charles Street and then south of Nishuane Road. The suspects were described as a black male, approximately 5'9" in height, wearing a blue surgical mask, gray sweat pants, dark colored black jacket and a knit hat. The female party was described as a black female, approximately 5'6" in height, wearing skinny black pants and leg warmers with a scarf around her neck and hair her was wrapped.

December 9, 2020 (Church Street): The complainant reported that he left his vehicle parked, running, and unattended while he made a pick up in a Church Street business. When he returned five minutes later the vehicle was gone. The vehicle was recovered days later, parked and unoccupied, on First Street in Newark.

December 9, 2020 (Greenwood Avenue): The complainant stated that her vehicle was entered between 9:30 PM and 10:30 PM while she was at work. Missing at this time is a brown and tan Louis Vuitton purse valued at $1300.00, two checks, and her work identification. She was unsure if the vehicle was locked or not.

December 11, 2020 (Union Street): The resident reported that her Ring Doorbell camera was removed from her front door. The device was valued at approximately $100.00.

December 12, 2020 (Elm Street): The victim reported that an un known person stole her Apple iPhone 11 as it was charging inside of Noches De Columbia. Surveillance footage shows a white or Hispanic male, approximately 50-60 years old, with dark brown hair, wearing a gray hooded jacket and dark colored pants remove the phone as he was exiting the restaurant. The phone was valued at approximately $500.00.

Vandalism

December 9, 2020 (Church Street): The complainant reported that her vehicle was damaged at some point during the day. Damage to the vehicle included key marks along the driver’s side door, consistent with someone intentionally damaging the paint.

Dispute

December 12, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): Officers on patrol observed a physical altercation in front of Royal Bagel (560 Bloomfield Avenue) involving upwards of twenty-five people. Upon observing the arriving patrol units, most individuals fled the scene in multiple directions. Two individuals were detained. Both male parties were suffering from lacerations to their hands and arms. Montclair EMS responded however both males refused medical attention. Preliminary investigation revealed the altercation began at Antika Grill, located next door. Two store front windows to Royal Bagel were shattered as well as the entry/exit glass door. The incident remains under investigation.

December 15, 2020 – December 22, 2020

Theft

December 15, 2020 (Pine Street): The victim reported that her vehicle, which she believes she locked, was entered during the overnight hours. Missing from the vehicle are two pairs of sunglasses, ($800.00 total), a GPS unit, and miscellaneous CDs.

December 21, 2020 (Grove Street): The resident reported that two Amazon packages that had been delivered to her home were stolen at 2:10 PM. Surveillance video shows the suspect to be a black female wearing a green hat and black jacket as well as a black backpack and pink bag. The female was observed walking north bound on Grove Street then walked up to the porch and grabbed the packages. She then continued walking north on Grove Street. The value of the packages was $50.00.

December 21, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reported that a package containing an Apple iPhone 5 was delivered to her apartment building on Friday December 18, 2020. When she went to retrieve the package, it was missing.

December 21, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that she was notified at 2:51 PM that an Amazon package was delivered to her apartment. When she went to retrieve the packages, they were gone. The value of the merchandise was estimated to be $90.00.

Lewdness

December 16, 2020 (Claremont Avenue): The victim reported that while walking westbound on Claremont Avenue, a vehicle, also travelling westbound, pulled up beside her and asked her where the nearest gas station was. Upon approaching the vehicle, the victim reported that the male driver had his genitals exposed and was masturbating. The vehicle then fled west on Claremont Avenue. The victim could only describe the vehicle as a mid-sized sedan, possibly metallic in color. The suspect could only be described as a male with dark complexion, possibly Hispanic, in his 30’s.

Dispute

December 20, 2020 (Walnut Street): Patrol units responded to Egan and Son’s on a report of a dispute. Two females were reported to have been engaged in a physical altercation. One party left the scene prior to police arrival. The remaining party stated that she was struck in the face by the suspect. She denied injury and refused medical attention.
