December 22, 2020 – January 5, 2021

Vandalism

December 23, 2020 (Bellevue Avenue): The complainant reported that an unknown person threw a large rock through the rear windshield of his vehicle, causing it to shatter.

January 2, 2021 (North Willow Street): The complainant reported that she parked her vehicle and upon returning to it observed that the rear windshield was shattered. It is unknown what caused the damage.

Robbery

December 23, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): Two juvenile victims reported that while walking east on Bloomfield Avenue in the area of Maple Avenue they were approached from behind by a group of 6 individuals. One of the members of the group stated that he had a weapon (one was never shown) and demanded they turn over their belongings. One victim turned over an orange bag containing sunglasses. The group then fled on foot west. One suspect was described as a black juvenile male, approximately 5'1” - 6'2” tall, wearing a dark jacket and dark pants with tears in the thighs.

Theft

December 23, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): An employee of Faraj Enterprise reported that while assisting another customer, an unknown male stole an Apple iPhone 12 from a display case. The suspect had previously been inquiring about the phone.

December 25, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): An employee of the Exxon Gas Station reported that an unknown person stole an undetermined amount of proceeds from the store. He was described as a black male, approximately 35-45 years old, wearing all black clothing.

December 29, 2020 (Elm Street): A 2011 Ford 150 Van was stolen from Bynderian Floor Coverings sometime between December 24, 2020 and

December 29, 2020. The vehicle was recovered, parked and unoccupied, in Newark on December 30, 2020.

December 31, 2020 (Watchung Avenue): The resident reported that his 20128 black Acura RDX was stolen from his driveway during the overnight hours. The vehicle was reportedly left unlocked with the key fob in the center console. The vehicle was recovered on January 2, 2021 in Bayonne, NJ. Four juveniles were charged with Receiving Stolen Property by Bayonne Police.

December 31, 2020 (Valley Road): The CVS manager reported that wile reviewing surveillance video for a separate incident, he observed a male and two females enter the store. The male proceeds to the contraceptive aisle where he steals a box of condoms. The suspect is described as a white male with “messy” brown hair wearing a white hooded sweatshirt (no markings), black jacket, dark colored pants, dark colored shoes, and a green "Nike" drawstring bag.

December 31, 2020 (Valley Road): The manager of CVS Pharmacy reported that he observed an unknown male enter the store and proceed to the allergy medication aisle. The suspect pulled a black backpack he had been concealing and filled it with medications from three different aisles. A majority of the items taken were pain medications, dental products, and allergy medication. The total value of proceeds stolen was approximately $10,000. The suspect is described as a black male, wearing a blue face mask, a black beanie hat, black jacket, and a white hooded sweatshirt. The incident is under investigation.

January 2, 2021 (South Fullerton Avenue): An employee of Bangz Salon reported that a set of her personally owned hair cutting shears were stolen from her work station. The shears were valued at approximately $3,000.00.

January 2, 2021 (High Street): The complainant reported that his 2015 Toyota Venza was stolen from in front of his residence on December 31, 2020.

January 4, 2021 (Undercliff Road): A 2018 Range Rover was stolen from the driveway of the residence during the overnight hours. It was recovered later that day parked and unoccupied in Newark.

Assault

December 30, 2020 (Cedar Avenue): The complainant reported that he was inside Nishuane Park at approximately 1:30 AM when he was “jumped” by a group of five individuals. He described two of his attackers as a black male, 20-21 years old, medium complexion, approximately 185 pounds, approximately 6" 1' or 6" 2' in height. He described the second suspect as a black male, 20-21 years of age, medium complexion, approximately 210-215 pounds, approximately 5’10” in height. The victim sought medical attention on his own for injuries to his face.

Theft from Motor Vehicles

December 28, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): Two vehicles parked inside of a Bloomfield Avenue parking garage were entered between 9:30 AM and noon. An iPhone and approximately $900.00 in tools were taken from one vehicle.

January 3, 2021 (Gates Avenue): The victim reported that her vehicle was entered overnight and was rummaged through. Missing is a handicap placard and a cellphone charger.

January 4, 2020 (Plymouth Street): The complainant reported that two cars were parked in his driveway overnight. One vehicle, which was left unlocked, was entered. Approximately $20.00 in cash was taken.

January 4, 2021 (Plymouth Street): The complainant reported that her vehicle was entered between 1/3/2021 and 1/4/2021. The center console was rummaged through. It is unknown if anything is missing.

Arrest

December 31, 2020 (Valley Road): Mr. Roman Bienkiewicz (58 years old, Montclair, NJ) was charged with Shoplifting from Acme Supermarket.

January 1, 2021 (Valley Road): Heriberto Perez (31 years old, Montclair) was charged with Shoplifting from Acme Supermarket as well as Hindering Apprehension.

January 5, 2021 – January 12, 2021

MV Theft

January 5, 2021 (Grove Street): An employee of Deron School reported a 2001 green Ford Econoline van stolen from the school property overnight. Surveillance shows an unknown person take the van at approximately 11:15 PM and travel northbound on Grove Street.

January 6, 2021 (Orchard Court): The resident reported that his 2013 Acura MDX was stolen from his driveway during the overnight hours. The vehicle was unlocked with the valet key contained within. The vehicle was recovered the next day, parked and unoccupied, in Newark.

Burglary

January 5, 2021 (North Fullerton Avenue): The residents reported that their apartment was entered between 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM while they were out. Entry appeared to have been gained through a kitchen window. Once inside the suspect(s) ransacked the apartment and stole numerous electronic items.

Aggravated Assault

January 8, 2021 (Mission Street): At 1:24 AM Patrol units responded to Mission Street on a report of two females engaged in a physical dispute in the street. One female party reported that while inside of her residence she observed an unknown female damaging her cousin’s vehicle which was parked on the street. Damage consisted of a shattered front and rear windshield.

When she confronted the suspect, the suspect attacked her with a metal pipe. Ms. Jannah Asante (24-year-old female, East Orange, NJ) was arrested on scene. During arrest, Asante assaulted two officers by kicking one and spitting in the face of the other. Asante was charged with Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer. The victim was transported to Mountainside Hospital for injuries to her face.

Shots Fired

January 8, 2021 (Mission Street): At 5:21 PM, Montclair Police responded to Mission Street on a report of shots being fired. Upon arrival of Officers, three spent shell casings were located in the street however no victims were located and no witnesses came forward. At the time of the incident, no damage was observed to any vehicles in the area or residences. The incident remains under investigation. Theft

January 9, 2021 (Lincoln Street): The victim reported her wallet was stolen from her vehicle. The wallet was described as a bi-fold wallet containing approximately $140.00 in cash.

Criminal Mischief

January 10, 2021 (Chestnut Street): An officer reported observing fresh graffiti on the Chestnut Street train trestle. The graffiti consisted of various phrases in blue spray paint.

January 12, 2021 – January 19, 2021

Theft from Motor Vehicle

January 12, 2021 (Orange Road): The complainant reported that his commercial work van was entered during the overnight hours. The suspect(s) forced the door open. Missing at this time is approximately $2000.00 worth of power tools.

January 14, 2021 (Willowdale Avenue): The resident reported that her vehicle was entered during the overnight hours. Her wallet was discovered missing. Several fraudulent transactions in East Orange were made on the victim’s credit cards.

January 18, 2021 (North Willow Street): The victim reported that while walking to her vehicle that was parked on North Willow Street, she observed an unknown male rummaging through the car. The victim yelled and the male fled onto Claremont Avenue. He was described as a black male, in his late teens or early twenties, thin build, black curly hair, wearing a black Puffy coat and jeans that were sagging to his knees with navy blue underwear.

Shoplifting

January 13, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The manager of CVS Pharmacy reported that two individuals were in the store and stole an undetermined amount of hygiene products. The suspects were described as a black male, possibly in his 50’s, 6'2"-6'3" tall, weighing approximately 190 pounds. The security footage shows the male wearing gray sweatpants, black jacket with a hood, gray skull cap, white face mask, and white sneakers. The second suspect was described as a black female 5'5" tall, weighing around 175 pounds, wearing a dark blue jacket, black pants, gray hat, black shoes, black mask, and wearing a dark fanny pack.

MV Theft

January 18, 2021 (Marston Place): The victim reported that his 2006 BMW X3 was stolen during the overnight hours. The vehicle was reportedly parked directly across the street from his residence. The vehicle contained a laptop computer, an iPhone, and miscellaneous tools.

Arrests

January 12, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Tanesha Bynes (38-year-old female, Little Falls) was charged with Contempt following a motor vehicle stop.

January 13, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Patrol Units responded to the area of Bloomfield Avenue and Valley Road on a report of a physical dispute inside of a New Jersey Transit Bus. The dispute was reportedly between the driver and a passenger over a fare. During the altercation, Yolanda Bailey (21-year-old, female, Newark) reportedly struck the driver in the face and spit on her. Bailey was charged with Aggravated Assault.

January 16, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Berkly McDowell (48-year-old male, West Orange) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop.

January 19, 2021 – January 26, 2021

Shoplifting

January 21, 2021 (Valley Road): Patrol responded to the Kings Supermarket on a report of a shoplifting where the suspect was attempting to leave the store with a cart full of groceries. The male fled the store without being able to take anything. Patrol located the suspect, a 34-year-old male from Newark, at the Bellevue Train Station. Kings declined to press charges and the male was sent on his way.

January 25, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The manager of CVS Pharmacy on Bloomfield Avenue reported two males entered the store and stole an undetermined amount of merchandise. The suspects were described as a white male, approximately 5'7 to 5'9, wearing dark jeans, a denim jacket with a black puffy coat with a light stripe across the back, work boots and blue baseball cap. The second male was approximately 5'8 to 5'10, wearing a gray wool hat, tan pants with work boots and a black hooded sweatshirt with the word "Chicago" in white letters across the front. It is believed that the suspects stole energy drinks and protein drinks.

Theft

January 22, 2021 (Valley Road): The complainant reported that her vehicle was entered and her Dell Laptop computer and Apple Airpods were stolen. The theft reportedly occurred in December while her vehicle was parked in the Valley Road parking lot.

January 24, 2021 (Washington Avenue): The resident reported that a package that had been delivered to her home by Amazon was stolen. The package contained antibacterial wipes.

Burglary

January 22, 2021 (Cross Street): A Cross Street resident reported observing a group of juveniles climbing through a window to a vacant neighboring home. The individuals reportedly fled towards Harrison Avenue prior to police arrival. The residence was checked however, nothing appeared disturbed.

Vandalism

January 21, 2021 (Grove Street): The resident reported that her vehicle was damaged during the overnight hours. When she went out to her car, she observed that the rear windshield had been shattered and a rock was located on the floorboard.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle

January 24, 2021: A 2006 BMW stolen from Marston Place on January 18, 2021 was recovered parked and unoccupied on 20th Street in Irvington.

Arrests

January 19, 2021 (Valley Road): David Blakely (30-year-old, Montclair) was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Defiant Trespassing after a dispute at the Quick Check.

January 22, 2021 (Valley Road): Gregory Gaafar (27-year-old, Peekskill, NY) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle accident.

January 22, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Kathleen Drake (59-year-old, Belleville) was charged with Driving while Intoxicated following a motor vehicle accident.
