December 18 - January 7, 2020

MV Theft

December 18, 2019 (Maple Avenue): The victim reported that she started her 2014 Chrysler mini van and left it unattended so it could warm up. When she walked outside minutes later, the vehicle was gone.

Thefts

December 21, 2019 (Midland Avenue): Packages that had been delivered to the residence were stolen at some point between 6pm and 9pm. There was no description of suspects.

December 22, 2019 (Franklin Avenue): The victim reported that approximately $2300.00 in cash was missing from a steel security box located in a bedroom of the home.

December 23, 2019 (Tuxedo Road): The resident reported that at approximately 0010 hours he received a motion detection alert on his cell phone. He stated that when he viewed the surveillance he noticed a tall male suspect walking towards his 2018 grey Honda Civic and proceeded to open the driver side door. There were no reported proceeds. The suspect is described as a tall male (unknown race) with a full beard wearing a skull hat with a bubble jacket, sweat pants, and dark boots.

December 23, 2019 (Chestnut Street): The victims reported that they parked their 2005 Volkswagen in the rear parking lot of the Clary Anderson Arena. Upon returning approximately 30 minutes later they discovered the vehicle had been entered. Missing at this time is an Apple laptop and a Nintendo DS.

December 23, 2019 (Midland Avenue): The resident reported that he parked his vehicle in front of his home. When he returned an hour later he discovered the unlocked vehicle had been entered. The following items were reported stolen: backpack, iPad, iPhone, Bluetooth transmitters, watch, sunglasses, and earbuds.

December 28, 2019 (Russell Terrace): The victim reported his vehicle was entered and a wallet containing $1000.00 in cash as stolen.

December 28, 2019 (South Fullerton Avenue): An employee of Connect Clothing reported that three males attempted to purchase a pair of sneakers with a suspected stolen credit card, as the security facial image on the card did not match the suspects face. When questioned, the suspects fled the store. In the process of leaving, one suspect grabbed an unknown amount of cash from another customer who had his wallet open in his hands. The suspects were described as three black males, 17-20 years old, medium build, medium complexion. They were last seen fleeing west on The Crescent towards the parking garage.

December 29, 2019 (Cambridge Road): The resident reported that he looked out his window and observed three males entering several vehicles belonging to his neighbors. They fled east on Cambridge Road. There were no proceeds.

December 31, 2019 (Gray Street): The victim reported that approximately $140.00 in merchandise delivered to his home was stolen from the porch. The incident reportedly occurred on December 20, 2019.

January 3, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): The manager of 7-11 reported that approximately $260.00 worth of Red Bull energy drinks were stolen over a two week period. The theft was discovered during inventory.

January 5, 2020 (Alexander Avenue): The residents reported that they returned home from vacation and discovered approximately $160.00 in delivered merchandise was stolen from the front porch. Surveillance cameras show the incident occurred on December 10, 2019 and the suspects are three males who exit a red SUV. They removed the packages and fled towards Grove Street.

Robbery

December 18, 2019 (Walnut Street): Patrol units responded to the area of Walnut Street and Walnut Crescent on a report of a strong-armed robbery that just occurred. The victim reported walking east on Walnut Street when an unknown male approached her from behind and grabbed her purse, attempting to take it from her. The victim resisted and the male let go of the purse but did take a shopping bag which contained prescription medication. The suspect fled south on Pine Street. He is described as a black male, approximately 6'1" tall, thin build. He was wearing blue jeans, two toned jacket color navy and light blue with a hood over his face. The victim sustained lacerations to her hands during the struggle. She was evaluated by Montclair Ambulance Unit but refused further treatment.

Burglary

December 25, 2019 (South Willow Street): The residents reported that between 5pm – 11 pm December 24, 2019, unknown person(s) made entry into their home. Several checkbooks and approximately $1000.00 in cash were stolen. There were no signs of forced entry.

Assault

December 21, 2019 (Park Street): A bouncer at Just Jake's reported that he was punched in the face while escorting an unruly patron out of the establishment. The bouncer suffered lacerations under his eye. The suspect was described as black male, 25 years old, 6 feet tall, 160 pounds.

Arrests

December 19, 2019 (Grove Street): Ian Greenberg (41 year old male from West Orange) was arrested on open warrants out of Randolph and Denville following a motor vehicle stop.

December 20, 2019 (Claremont Avenue): Patrol units were dispatched to the CVS Pharmacy on Claremont Avenue on a report of a theft in progress. Responding officers observed the suspect exiting the store upon their arrival. He was ordered to stop but fled on foot. He was apprehended on Pine Street after a brief struggle. Tamir Williamson (22 year old from Newark, NJ) was arrested and charged with Shoplifting, Obstruction the Administration of Law, and Resisting Arrest. He was also found to have open warrants out of Newark and the Essex County Sheriffs Office. One officer sustained injuries to his wrist and hands.

December 25, 2019 (Pine Street): Castel Jean-Francois (26 year old from Orange, NJ) was arrested and charged with DWI following a single car motor vehicle accident.

December 26, 2019 (Bloomfield Avenue): Shean Norman (28 year old from Fairfield, NJ) was arrested on an open warrant out of Montclair stemming from an investigation into a motor vehicle theft that occurred on December 7, 2019.

December 30, 2019 (Highland Avenue): A detective observed three males looking into parked cars in the area of Highland Avenue and Ingleside Road. The males matched the description of suspects wanted in connection to car burglaries the previous night on Cambridge Road. Upon approaching them, all three subjects fled on foot. One subject was eventually apprehended. A 15 year old juvenile from Belleville was arrested and charged with Obstruction and Resisting Arrest.

Theft

January 7, 2020 (Eagle Rock Way): The victim reported that an unknown person shattered the drivers side window to her Chevy Suburban and stole her pocketbook off of the front passenger seat.

January 7, 2020 (South Mountain Avenue): A 2013 Honda Accord was entered while parked outside of the residence. The glove compartment and center console were rummaged through but nothing appeared to have been taken. Surveillance cameras show the suspect to be a thin male wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, light colored sneakers and is seen fleeing north on South Mountain Avenue towards Llewellyn Road.

January 7, 2020 (North Fullerton Avenue): A package containing clothing items was delivered and subsequently stolen from an apartment building on North Fullerton Avenue. The suspect was described only as a male wearing red sneakers and dark clothing.

January 8, 2020 (Lloyd Road): An unknown person entered two vehicles parked in a Lloyd Road driveway. The complainant reported his Mac Pro laptop and clothing items were stolen.

January 8, 2020 (Lackawanna Plaza): A red and yellow PK Ripper bicycle valued at $750.00 was stolen from outside Popeye’s Kitchen.

January 10, 2020 (Hartley Street): The complainant reported that someone entered his 2017 Dodge Durango. The suspect rummaged through the vehicle and stole the owners wallet.

January 10, 2020 (The Crescent): A BMX bicycle valued at $500.00 was stolen from outside of The Crescent Parking Deck. The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male, 20-30 years old, short beard. He was last seen wearing an orange wool cap, a yellow and black reflective jacket, dark colored pants, and dark colored work boots.

January 11, 2020 (Montclair Avenue): An unlocked 2017 Volkswagen Jetta was entered during the overnight hours. A wallet containing credit/debit cards, cash, and miscellaneous paperwork was stolen.

Vandalism

January 7, 2020 (Baldwin Street): The owner of the building reported that two lampposts were damaged by a cement block. The items were reportedly valued at $250.00.

January 8, 2020 (Elm Street): The rear trunk window to a 2005 Nissan Murano was shattered. Nothing was reported missing.

January 10, 2020 (Stonehenge Road): Graffiti was observed painted on three large landscaping rocks inside of Tuers Park. “666”, “Love” and a heart were reportedly spray painted in gold.

Arrests

January 8, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): Mr. Benjamin Morris (19 y/o, Montclair) was arrested and charged with Shoplifting.

January 9, 2020 (Grove Street / Watchung Avenue): Gerald Sullivan (68 y/o, Montclair) was charged with DWI following a motor vehicle accident.

January 11, 2020 (Orange Road): Elijah Cullins (29 y/o, Newark) was arrested on open warrants out of Linden, NJ following a motor vehicle stop.

January 11, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): Kyron Dubose (37 y/o, Clifton) was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Passaic County following a motor vehicle stop.

January 12, 2020 (Harrison Avenue) Jimmy Bastien (32 y/o, West Orange) was charged with DWI following a motor vehicle accident.

January 13, 2020 (North Fullerton Avenue): Larry Cousins (71 y/o, East Orange) was charged with Burglary and two counts of theft following an investigation into stolen packages.

Motor Vehicle Accident

January 13, 2020 (Pine Street / Walnut Street): Montclair Police responded to the corner of Walnut Street and Pine Street on a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle. The victim, a 41-year-old Montclair resident, was reportedly crossing from the west side of Pine Street to the east side when he was struck. The victim was crossing approximately 15 feet south of the marked crosswalk. The driver, 29-year-old male from Wyckoff, remained on scene. The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries by Verona EMS and Medic 7. He was transported to Saint Joseph’s Medical Center in Paterson for further medical evaluation.

Thefts

January 16, 2020 (Valley Road): The complainant states that he believes that he left his Kyocera cell phone, valued at $100, on a table at Starbucks. Shortly after exiting the establishment, he realized his phone was missing and returned to Starbucks, but the phone was no longer where he believed that he had left it.

January 17, 2020 (The Crescent): The victim states that a package delivered to her building’s foyer had been opened and that her order, an X-box valued at $200, had been stolen.

January 19, 2020 (Franklin Place): The complainant reports that someone had rummaged through a vehicle parked in a driveway.

January 19, 2020 (Park Street): The complainant reports that two bicycles were stolen from the bike rack outside the YMCA. The bicycles had not been secured prior to the theft.

January 19, 2020 (Harrison Avenue): An employee at Delta Gas Station reports that a male drove off without paying for $56 worth of gasoline that the driver had purchased.

January 21, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): An employee at Exxon Gas Station reports that a male drove off without paying for $35 worth of gasoline that the driver had purchased.

Burglary

January 16, 2020 (Upper Mountain Avenue): The caller reports that a garage window to a carriage house was shattered and that the suspect apparently gained entry to the building. Nothing was reported missing from the property at the time of the report.

Vandalism

January 20, 2020 (Riverview Drive West): The complainant reports that a gold-colored heart as well as “NY” and “MONTCLAIR NJ HOOD” were spray painted on her fence.

Arrests

January 19, 2020 (Park Street): Travis Redington, 44, of Montclair, was charged with Disorderly Conduct after refusing to leave Just Jake’s and confronting the employee who asked that he leave the establishment.

Thefts

January 22, 2020 (Sherman Street): The complainant reports that her unlocked vehicle was entered and approximately $2 in change was stolen.

January 23, 2020 (Greenwood Avenue): The complainant states that a package containing approximately $75 in merchandise was stolen from the property’s mail room.

January 25, 2020 (Elmwood Avenue): The complainant states that a package containing approximately $115 in merchandise was stolen from his property.

January 25, 2020 (Orange Road): The complainant states that a package containing approximately $700 in merchandise was stolen.

January 25, 2020 (South Mountain Avenue): The complainant reports that her daughter’s jacket, Air Pods, wallet, and $50 were stolen while her daughter attended a dance at the Montclair Art Museum.

January 26, 2020 (The Crescent Parking Deck): A worker reports that a driver operating a white Chevrolet 4 door sedan with a Delaware registration left the garage without paying the $24 parking fee.

Burglary

January 22, 2020 (Eagle Rock Way): The caller reports that he saw a vehicle pull into his neighbor’s driveway. When he went to investigate, as his neighbor was not home, the vehicle, a white-colored Nissan sedan occupied by at least two people, fled the scene. It was discovered that the suspect had gained entry to the residence through a garage window. Nothing was reported stolen at the time of the report.

January 23, 2020 (Erwin Park): The complainant reports that her vehicle was entered and that the glove box was rummaged through, with the contents strewn about the vehicle. Nothing was reported missing at the time of the report.

January 26, 2020 (Warren Place): The caller reports that two individuals entered and attempted to enter multiple vehicles on her property. Nothing was reported missing at the time of the report. The suspects are described only as males, medium builds, wearing dark-colored pants and dark- colored hooded sweatshirts.

January 26, 2020 (Warren Place): Caller states that $40 in cash was stolen from his vehicle.

Vandalism

January 24, 2020 (Fairfield Street): The caller reports that “HEY”, “WAVE”, “X”, and an angry emoji face were spray painted on the exterior of the building.

January 26, 2020 (Bellevue Avenue): An employee of Coldwell Banker reported that a portion of the glass door to the rear of the building was shattered.

Suspicious Incident

January 24, 2020 (Park Street/ Buckingham Road): Two eleven-year-old females reported that they were walking home from school when they were approached by a minivan, with the operator asking for directions to Bloomfield Avenue. The juveniles stated that the driver was not wearing pants. After a brief exchange, the male drove north on Park Street. The driver is described as a Hispanic male, 45-50 years old, short, dark-colored hair, with a strong accent. The minivan was light blue in color with a NJ registration an a “stick figure” family sticker on the rear window.

Arrests

January 21, 2020 (Greenwood Avenue): Erik Thomas, 30, of Irvington, was taken into custody after police learned that he had a warrant for his arrest.

January 23, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): Willie Kearney, 61, of Montclair, was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose after he was found to be in possession of a BB rifle and a pipe when police responded to a verbal dispute involving Kearney.

January 28, 2020 (Greenwood Avenue): Matthew Collier, 30, was taken into custody after police learned that he had a warrant for his arrest.
