Police Blotters for November 2022

November 1, 2022 – November 8, 2022

Theft

November 1, 2022 (Valley Road): Patrol responded to the Kings Supermarket on a report of a shoplifting. Employees reported two suspects entered the store and stole approximately $300.00 worth of laundry detergent. The suspects fled in a 2008 Ford Econoline Van, which was reported stolen out of Irvington. Responding officers located the vehicle however, it fled when officers attempted to stop it. The suspects were described as a black male wearing dark clothing and a black female with dreadlocks wearing all dark clothing.

November 4, 2022 (Munn Street): The Pastor at Immaculate Conception Church reported that the church mailbox was vandalized and church mail weas stolen. This was the second such incident in two weeks. The mail stolen included checks.

Suspicious Person

November 4, 2022 (Wildwood Avenue): The resident reported that their home surveillance system captured an unknown male walking on his property at approximately 11:50 PM. The vehicles in the resident’s driveway were locked and therefore untampered with. The suspect was described as a black male with dark facial hair, approximately 5'7” - 5'11” tall, wearing a dark colored jacket, blue pants, dark colored gloves, white sneakers, and a light-colored hood.

November 5, 2022 (Bellegrove Drive): The resident reported that their home surveillance system captured an unknown person walking down the drive and walking up to their back door and attempting to look inside. The suspect walks up to the back door, squats down, looks into the residence and the proceeded to walk back down the driveway and away from house, ultimately fleeing in an unknown direction. The suspect is described as wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, with hood up, black backpack, light colored shoes, and blue jeans.

Arrests

November 3, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that he pulled into the Exxon gas station to purchase gas. An unknown male approached his vehicle, claiming that he worked at the gas station. The complainant handed the male $20.00 at which point the male fled the scene on foot. Patrol located the suspect, a 32-year-old male from Montclair. He was charged with Theft by Deception.

November 6, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): A 57-year-old male from Union was charged with Shoplifting approximately $1100.00 worth of merchandise from CVS.

November 8, 2022 – November 14, 2022

Assault

November 10, 2022 (Orange Road): The victim reported that he was at a private residence on Orange Road where a party was taking place. An argument ensued and he was assaulted by one of the attendees at the party. The victim sustained a laceration and a facial fracture. He was treated at Mountainside Hospital.

Burglary

November 11, 2022 (Harrison Avenue): The resident reported that he was in his living room when he heard a noise coming from his kitchen. When he entered the kitchen to investigate, he observed an unknown male standing by his rear door. The resident yelled at the suspect who immediately fled through the rear door. The resident chased the suspect however he lost sight of him in Porter Park. The suspect was described as male with a stocky build, approximately 5'8” - 5'11” tall, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, light colored pants, light blue jeans and white sneakers. The suspect removed approximately $200.00 from the victim’s wallet.

November 11, 2022 (Christopher Street): The resident reported that she was reviewing her home surveillance when she observed an unknown male attempting to enter her home several hours earlier. Surveillance showed the suspect attempting to open a glass sliding door which was locked. The suspect then proceeded through a gate out of camera view. He was described as a thin built male, wearing dark pants and possibly a grey hooded sweatshirt over his head and a mask.

Motor Vehicle Crime

November 12, 2022 (Canterbury Drive): The complainant reported that he observed 3-4 males enter his vehicle while he was in Canterbury Park. When he approached them, they fled north on Willowdale Avenue. They were described as 3-4 individuals with darker skin. One was wearing a yellow hooded sweatshirt. The others were wearing a darker hooded sweatshirts. All wearing blue medical masks. A set of house keys and a key to a separate vehicle were stolen.

November 12, 2022 (Nishuane Road): The resident reported that his vehicle was entered during the overnight hours. A drivers license and school identification were removed from the center console.

Criminal Mischief

November 13, 2022 (Maple Avenue): The victim reported that an unknown person threw a rock through her bedroom window. The resident was unable to provide a value for the window.

November 15, 2022 – November 21, 2022

Theft

November 16, 2022 (Claremont Avenue): The complainant reported that several packages that had been delivered to his home were stolen. Surveillance depicts a white female wearing a black hat and a surgical mask removing the packages.

Motor Vehicle Crime

November 17, 2022 (Elm Street): The complainant reported that the front passenger side window of her vehicle had been shattered during the overnight hours. A bag containing religious items was stolen.

Suspicious Incident

November 17, 2022 (Harrison Avenue): The resident reported that he was monitoring his home surveillance system while out of state and observed an unknown person in his backyard. The suspect, described as a black male in a grey hooded sweatshirt, was seen walking on the property and damaged the camera mounted on the garage. He did not gain entry into the residence or any vehicles.

Arrests

November 16, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): Officers responded to Porta Restaurant on a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers observed employees attempting to remove an unruly patron. Officers attempted to intervene and the suspect became combative and began fighting with officers. A 26 year old male from Cedar Grove, NJ was charged with Disorderly Conduct, Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest, and Throwing Bodily Fluids at Law Enforcement.

November 20, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): A 49 year old male from Newark, NJ was charged with Shoplifting from Merit Fine Wine and Liquors.

November 22, 2022 – November 29, 2022

Theft

November 23, 2022 (Church Street): An employee of ‘Wow Sports Cards’ reported that four juveniles entered his store and stole approximately $700.00 worth of merchandise. Two juveniles reportedly distracted the cashier while the remaining two walked out with the items. The first juvenile was described as a white male wearing glasses, a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, a dark colored backpack, dark colored shorts and dark colored shoes. The second juvenile was described as a white male wearing glasses, a dark colored sweatshirt, long dark pants and a gray backpack.

Motor Vehicle Crime

November 24, 2022 (Glenridge Avenue): The complainant reported that his unlocked vehicle was parked behind a business on Glenridge Avenue. An unknown person entered the passenger side door and was able to steal $600.00 in cash. The suspect was captured on surveillance cameras and is described as a black male, wearing a white hooded sweatshirt with the hood over his head, dark colored pants, and dark sneakers. The suspect was also carrying what appeared to be a gym bag.
November 24, 2022 (Beverley Road): The complainant reported that he started his 2022 Mercedes Benz and then entered a residence on Beverley Road to gather personal items. When he returned a minute later the vehicle was gone. It was recovered later in the evening in Newark, NJ.
November 26, 2022 (Elm Street): A 2009 Audi was stolen while left running unattended on Elm Street.
November 27, 2022 (Marion Road): A 2020 BMW X5 was stolen from a Marion Road driveway. The key fob was reportedly left in the vehicle. Shortly after reporting the theft, the vehicle was recovered in Newark, NJ.

Burglary / Suspicious Person

November 24, 2022: During the late evening hours on Thanksgiving, Montclair Police responded to multiple residences throughout the township on reports of a suspicious male trespassing on the resident’s property. In some cases, the suspect was able to make entry into the home.
The first incident occurred at approximately 7:10 PM when a Stonebridge Road resident reported hearing someone walking around her first floor while she was upstairs. One of the occupants in the home observed an individual run from the property. He was wearing dark clothing and was approximately 5’10” tall. Nothing was reported missing.
At approximately 8:45 PM a resident on Inwood Terrace reported observing someone removing the flower pots by his kitchen window ledge in an attempt to open the window. The suspect ran when he was discovered by the homeowner’s son.
At 9:45 PM, a resident on Highland Avenue reported observing an unknown person on his property about to enter his side door. The suspect was described as a light skinned male, average build, about 5'11, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, and a black ski mask covering his face. The suspect ran after being confronted by the resident.
A resident on Prospect Place alerted police about an hour later that his home surveillance captured the same male running across his property. The next morning, a second caller from Prospect Place reported his wallet missing from his kitchen counter.
Shortly after midnight, a complainant on Upper Mountain Avenue observed a male matching this same description trespassing on the property. He fled when confronted.
The male with the same description was observed attempting to gain entry into a North Mountain Avenue address one hour later. Her fled when confronted by the resident.
