October 26, 2021 – November 2, 2021

Theft

October 27, 2021 (Wildwood Avenue): The resident reported that her 2014 Maserati Quattroporte was stolen from her driveway between October 20, 2021 and October 21, 2021. The vehicle was recovered the next day on South 14th Street in Newark.

October 29, 2021 (Church Street): The complainant reported that she observed a package that had been delivered to her business by UPS had been opened. Approximately $1000.00 in clothing was removed from the package.

October 29, 2021 (Gates Avenue): The resident reported that his detached garage was entered between October 22, 2021 and October 29, 2021. A black Beach Cruiser bicycle with red tires was stolen.

October 30, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that her parked vehicle was entered between 7:30 PM and 11:00 PM. Three backpacks containing two chrome books, two Kindles, and a Macbook, were stolen.

October 31, 2021 (Christopher Street): The resident reported that her 2005 Saturn Ion was stolen from in front of the residence. It was located later that day unoccupied in Newark.

October 31, 2021 (Melrose Place): The resident reported that his 2019 BMW was stolen from his driveway. He stated that at approximately 9:00 AM he observed a white Mercedes Benz SUV pull up in front of his house and four males exit. The males were seen rummaging through one of his other vehicles, which contained the key fob to the BMW. The males then accessed the BMW and fled the scene.

November 1, 2021 (South Park Street): An employee of Blue Mercury reported observing two females enter the store whom she recognized from previous shoplifting incidents. After being momentarily distracted, she discovered between $1000.00 and $2000.00 worth of skin care products missing and the suspects no longer on scene. She described the suspects as two black females. One was approximately 6'00” in height with long black hair, long eyelashes, wearing black leggings. The second was described as shorter, with a bob haircut, tie dye pants, wearing flip flops.

Arrests

October 27, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Alaina Alfano (34 years old, Whippany, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a single car motor vehicle accident.

October 27, 2021 (Claremont Avenue): An employee of CVS Pharmacy on Claremont Avenue reported two males entered the store and each stole over $100.00 in merchandise before fleeing. A description was provided and patrol located Timothy Jenkins (55 years old, Newark) and Douglas Tucker (58 years old, Newark) on Pine Street in possession of the stolen items. Both men were charged with shoplifting.

October 31, 2021 (Upper Mountain Avenue): A man visiting friends on Upper Mountain Avenue walked out to his 2021 Porsche Cayenne and discovered an unknown individual attempting to gain access to his car. The victim yelled out and the suspect retreated into the passenger seat of an awaiting Honda Accord and fled the scene. Responding patrol units located the suspect vehicle at Watchung Avenue and Valley Road and were able to stop it. Mohammad Kaba (18 years old, Newark) was identified as the passenger and was charged with Hindering Apprehension and had outstanding warrants for his arrest. The driver, a 17 year-old female from Roseland, NJ was transported to headquarters and released to a parent. An investigation into the matter is continuing.

November 2, 2021 – November 9, 2021

Burglary / Theft

November 4, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that his Bloomfield Avenue apartment was entered at some point between November 2, 2021 and November 4, 2021.
Multiple watches and an Emerald ring were reportedly removed from a closet.

November 5, 2021 (Duryea Road): The resident reported that his 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee was stolen from his driveway during the overnight hours. The keys to the vehicle were accidently left in a gym bag within the vehicle.

November 5, 2021 (Grove Street): The resident reported that he parked his 2016 Mercedes Benz S500 running in his driveway. The vehicle was recovered in Elizabeth, NJ on November 7, 2021.

November 9, 2021 (Pine Street): The victim reported that his bicycle was stolen from the bike rack at the Bay Street Train Station. The bicycle was described as a black 20 inch Trek Vita Sport.

Arrests

November 2, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Darren Woolford (49 years old, Glen Ridge, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop.

November 7, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Jennie Cadet (40 years old, Mountainside, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop.

November 9, 2021 – November 16, 2021

Burglary / Theft

November 10, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that she observed an unknown male inside of a Bloomfield Avenue Office building that contains numerous individual suites. When confronted, the male asked where the bathroom was located and inquired if someone named “Lucy” was working. When the male left the premises, the complainant observed a locked combination safe had been tampered with. The suspect was described as a light skinned black or Hispanic male, wearing a black face mask, black NY Yankees straight brim baseball cap (sticker still attached to the brim), a maroon and black Deadpool jacket with the Deadpool logo on the left side chest, dark colored pants, and tan work boots.

November 11, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The resident reported that a package containing approximately $130.00 worth of beauty products that had been delivered to her building was stolen. There was no suspect description.

November 11, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that when he arrived at work at 8:30 AM he discovered a damaged open door and damaged door lock. Entry into the office appeared to have been made but nothing was reported missing at this time.

November 12, 2021 (Union Street): The resident reported that his 2022 BMW X5 that had just been delivered to his home was stolen from his driveway. The vehicle was parked in the driveway with another vehicle parked behind it. The suspects drove over the lawn to exit and were last seen by a neighbor travelling east on Union Street.

Arrest

November 10, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): Ronald Henry (50 years old, Newark, NJ) was charged with Shoplifting after employees at CVS Pharmacy observed him remove body wash and lotions from the store without making payment.

Fire

On Friday November 12, 2021 at 2:17 PM, Montclair Police as well as Montclair Fire Department and Montclair EMS Units responded to 100 Chestnut Street, Montclair High School, on a report of a fire on the second floor of the school.  A student alerted school staff of the incident. All students and staff were able to promptly evacuate the school safely. The school Principal as well as a Montclair Police Officer assigned as the School Resource Officer were able locate and extinguish the fire which was confined to a second-floor boy’s bathroom near the science wing. Preliminary investigation suggests that the fire began near a soap dispenser.

Minimal damaged was confined to this area. The School Resource Officer as well as two school employees were transported to Mountainside Hospital by Montclair EMS for smoke inhalation and released. All students were dismissed at normal dismissal time. The incident remains under investigation by the Montclair Police Department and Montclair Fire Department. November 16, 2021 – November 22, 2021

Criminal Mischief

November 16, 2021 (Church Street): An employee at Christ Church reported that a rock was thrown through a window on the north side of the church. The window was approximately 100 years old. The value of the window was unknown at the time of the report.

November 18, 2021 (Valley Road): The complainant reported that he parked his vehicle on Valley Road at 7:15 AM. When he returned to it at 5:30 PM he discovered the rear window had been shattered.

Suspicious Vehicle

November 17, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): An officer on patrol in the area of Bloomfield Avenue and Park Street observed a vehicle behind him disregarding the red traffic signal at Bloomfield Avenue and North Fullerton Avenue. The vehicle then passed the officer and went through the red traffic light at Bloomfield Avenue and North Mountain Avenue. A check of the vehicle’s registration revealed it was a stolen vehicle out of Newark. The officer attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop however, the vehicle accelerated and fled into Verona. The vehicle was a 2010 Dodge Challenger. It was last seen south on Mount Prospect Avenue.

Theft

November 18, 2021 (Lorraine Avenue): The resident reported her vehicle was entered in the early morning hours. The center console was rummaged through and loose change was taken. A neighbor reported observing two individuals running from the driveway at 5:45 AM and entering a dark colored sedan with the headlights off.

November 18, 2021 (Upper Mountain Avenue): The victim reported a 2019 BMW X5 was stolen from her driveway during the overnight hours. She was unsure if the key fob was mistakenly left inside the vehicle.

November 18, 2021 (Valley Road): An employee of Lukoil on Valley Road reported a theft of gas. The driver of a black 2017 Honda Pilot pulled up to the pump and requested the attendant fill the car up. When the attendant took the nozzle out after filling the tank the driver of the Pilot fled south on Valley Road. A check of the vehicle’s registration revealed it was a stolen vehicle.

The driver was described as a black female in her early twenties. The passenger was described only as a black male.

November 18, 2021 (Glenridge Avenue): The owner of a 2021 Hyundai Elantra reported that he parked his vehicle in front of Domino’s and entered the business. The vehicle was left running but the owner had his keys with him. When he came out his vehicle was gone. It was recovered parked and unoccupied on November 22, 2021 in Newark.

November 22, 2021 (Macopin Avenue): A 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan was stolen from a driveway on Macopin Avenue during the overnight hours. It is unknown if the doors were locked or if the fob was inside.

Arrest

November 21, 2021 (Highland Avenue): Anthony Martin (59 years old, Lyndhurst, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle accident.

November 23, 2021 – November 30, 2021

Thefts

November 23, 2021 (Mount Vernon Road): The residents reported that when they woke up, they discovered two cars had been stolen from their driveway. A 2021 Black Jeep Grand Cherokee and a 2021 Black Ford Explorer were stolen during the overnight hours. The owner was unable to account for his key fobs. The Cherokee was recovered the next day in East Orange. A juvenile male from Newark and a juvenile female from Jersey City were found to be in possession of the vehicle.

November 23, 2021 (Label Street): The victim reported that her wallet was stolen from her bag while she was at the Human Needs Food Pantry. The wallet contained approximately $1000 in Trinidad dollars.

November 24, 2021 (Walnut Crescent): The complainant stated that his company’s truck was parked on Walnut Crescent while doing landscape work at Mountainside Hospital. When he returned, he discovered three bags belonging to his workers were removed. A total of $200 in cash and a tablet computer were reportedly in the bags.

November 24, 2021 (Gates Avenue): The victim reported that the Catalytic Converter was removed from his 2008 Toyota Prius. The vehicle was parked between the hours of 9:45 AM and 2:00 PM.

November 26, 2021 (Hawthorne Place): The victim reported the Catalytic Converter was stolen from her 2011 Toyota Prius. The theft occurred at some point between 11:00 PM and 10:00 AM.

November 27, 2021 (Washington Street): The victim reported that the Catalytic Converter was stolen from her 2005 Toyota Prius while parked at the Charles Bullock School. She reported that the theft occurred on November 24, 2021 during school hours.

November 29, 2021 (Grove Street): The resident reported that her vehicle was entered during the overnight hours. The vehicle appeared to have been rummaged through but nothing was reported missing.

November 29, 2021 (Pine Street): The victim reported that the Catalytic Converter was stolen from her 2010 Toyota Prius while parked at the Bay Street Parking Deck.

Vandalism

November 23, 2021 (Lloyd Road): An employee at Montclair Kimberly Academy reported that when he arrived to work, he discovered several green paint markings across several of the windows on the southeast side of the school. There was no significant damage reported and the markings were easily cleaned off.

Assault

November 25, 2021 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reported that he was inside of the building drinking alcohol when he was held down by one male and physically assaulted by three others. There was no description of the suspects involved. The victim suffered facial injuries and was transported to University Hospital by Montclair EMS.
