October 27, 2020 – November 3, 2020

Burglary / Theft

October 29, 2020 (Claremont Avenue): An employee of CVS Pharmacy reported that her personal keys as well as store keys were stolen from the check-out counter. Surveillance images show the suspect to be a black male, 5'8 with a thin build. The suspect was wearing a reflective grey bubble coat with what appeared to be "DK' in black capital letters on the left sleeve and a black hoody underneath. He was also wearing black pants/sweats, black face mask, black gloves, and black sneakers with possibly white soles.

October 31, 2020 (Washington Street): The victim reported that his bicycle, which had been parked along the northern fence of the playground at Charles Bullock School, was stolen. The bicycle was described as a light blue men’s Felt mountain bike.

October 31, 2020 (Midland Avenue): A representative of Union Baptist Church reported that checks were stolen from the Finance Office of the Church. There is currently no financial loss and there are no suspects.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle

October 30, 2020 (Orange Road): An Acura TL reported stolen from Montclair in August was recovered parked and unoccupied in Newark. No arrests were made.

Attempted Burglary

November 1, 2020 (Montclair Avenue): The resident reported that at some point between Friday October 30th and Monday November 1st, an unknown person(s) attempted to enter his detached garage. Entry was not gained but a door lock valued at approximately $100.00 was damaged.

November 2, 2020 (Sherman Street): The resident reported that an unknown person(s) attempted to enter her apartment via two bedroom windows. One window appeared to be bowed out and appeared to have been tampered with and the second window was open at the top. The second window appeared to have been forced down while locked damaging the locking assembly with the window screen placed on the ground. There were several other windows located on the east side of the building that appeared to be tampered with. The resident was unsure if entry to the apartment was gained.

Damage to MV

October 31, 2020 (North Fullerton Avenue): The victim reported going out to her vehicle and observing it covered with syrup and a “sticky substance”. The suspect(s) also scratched the driver and passenger side of the vehicle with an unknown object, possibly a key.

Arrests

October 31, 2020 (Union Street): Mr. Bolivar Heras (44 y/o, Bogota, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop.

November 1, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): Mr. Julio DeJesus (50 y/o, Newark, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop.

November 3, 2020 – November 10, 2020

Theft from Motor Vehicle

November 7, 2020 (Elm Street): The victim reported parking her vehicle on the street while she ate at a local restaurant. Upon returning she discovered a black bag containing Apple Airpods, house keys, work keys, a utility knife, and $50.00 in cash was taken.

November 8, 2020 (Van Breemen Court): The caller reported an unknown person entered his unlocked vehicle during the overnight hours. Surveillance images depict an unknown person in dark clothing attempting to enter the vehicle at 3:00AM. No proceeds were reported. While reviewing the video, it was discovered that the suspect also entered a vehicle parked in the driveway across the street. There were no reported proceeds.

November 8, 2020 (Greenwood Avenue): The victim reported that his locked vehicle was entered during the overnight hours. He reported approximately $12.00 was stolen.

November 8, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reported that his vehicle was entered while parked in the Maple Plaza Parking Lot. The center console and glove compartment were rummaged through. A box of disposable surgeon masks valued at $15.00 was removed.

November 8, 2020 (Monroe Place): The victim reported her parked vehicle was entered and $57.00 in cash was removed. She did not recall if the vehicle was locked.

Burglary / Theft

November 8, 2020 (Park Street): The resident reported that a vacant apartment within the complex had been entered. The suspect(s) damaged the apartment as well as left garbage throughout it.

November 7, 2020 (Grant Street): The victim reported that his black 16-inch BMX bicycle was stolen from the fence line at Renaissance School while he was playing basketball. The bicycle had a black sticker with a logo of KINK on the body and gold on the handlebars. He valued the bicycle at approximately $290.00.

November 8, 2020 (Park Street): The manager of Central Presbyterian Church reported that an unknown person entered a second floor office and stole a laptop computer. The incident occurred while the church was conducting a blood drive.

November 9, 2020 (Forest Street): The complainant reported that she left her 2017 Ford Explorer running in the area of Forest Street and Walnut Street while she ran into a store. When she returned, she observed her vehicle being driven away west on Walnut Street. A responding officer observed the vehicle on South Fullerton Avenue as it crossed over Bloomfield Avenue. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle however the suspect refused to stop. The vehicle was pursued into East Orange before Montclair Officers voluntarily terminated the pursuit. The vehicle contained $1200.00 and a silver laptop computer.

November 9, 2020 (LaSalle Road): The victim reported his bicycle was stolen while it was leaning against his garage door. The bicycle is described as a light blue in color “Specialized” mountain bike. The only distinct feature is an American flag designed bell located on the front right handle bar. The bike was estimated to be valued at $650.

Vandalism

November 9, 2020 (The Crescent): The manager of The Crescent Parking Deck reported that a customer manually forced the exit gate into the open position, damaging the gate. The damage was valued at approximately $500.00.

November 9, 2020 (Bay Avenue): An unknown person(s) threw a rock through the rear window of a vehicle parked outside of the Mountainside Hospital parking deck. Entry was not gained into the vehicle.

Arrests

November 4, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): Mr. Henry Morel (33 years old, Newark, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop.

November 6, 2020 (Elm Street): Mr. Izaha Jackson (25 years old, East Orange, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a single car motor vehicle accident.

November 7, 2020 (Maple Avenue): Mr. Osiris English (18 years old, Newark, NJ) was charged with multiple counts of Forgery, Bad Checks, and Theft by Deception following an on-going fraud investigation.

November 8, 2020 (Elm Street): Mr. Jason Plillips (39 years old, East Orange, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop.

November 9, 2020 (Upper Mountain Avenue): Mr. Kevin Martinez (27 years old, Passaic, NJ) was charged with Criminal Attempted Burglary and Criminal Trespass after the homeowner observed him attempting to gain entry into his home.

Motor Vehicle Theft / Attempted Theft

November 11, 2020 (Mountainview Place): The resident reported that his 2015 Honda Accord was stolen from his driveway at some point between

November 5, 2020 and November 11, 2020. The owner reportedly was in possession of the only set of keys to the car at the time of its theft. The vehicle contained an iPad valued at $400.00.

November 15, 2020 (South Mountain Avenue): The victim reported that while sitting in her vehicle in her driveway she observed an unknown male attempt to enter her husband’s parked Range Rover. The victim yelled to the suspect who immediately ran and entered an awaiting vehicle and fled. The suspect was described as a black male, possibly in his 20’s, 6'1" tall, thin build, wearing a dark face covering, light colored blue jeans and a navy colored jacket. He entered an awaiting a dark colored Range Rover and fled south on South Mountain Avenue.

Burglary / Theft

November 11, 2020 (Cedar Avenue): The complainant reported that his bag containing his wallet and several miscellaneous items was stolen while it was left unattended inside of Nishuane Park.

November 11, 2020 (Hitchcock Place): The resident reported two packages that had been delivered to his home were stolen by an unknown person. Home surveillance cameras reveal the suspect to be a white female wearing a white sweatshirt with hood, black pants, black sandals, black eye glasses, and several face piercings. She was in possession of a white backpack and a black umbrella.

November 13, 2020 (Clarewill Avenue): The victim reported that his black and blue Nishiki Mountain Bike was stolen from in front of the home. The bicycle had an “Overland” sticker affixed to it and was valued at $200.00.

November 13, 2020 (Upper Mountain Avenue): The victim reported that she withdrew $8,000.00 from their bank and left the cash in a purse in the rear of her vehicle. Several hours later she realized the envelope containing the cash was no longer in her purse.

November 14, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reported that a backpack containing a laptop was stolen from his parked vehicle. The vehicle was reportedly left unlocked and contained approximately $6,000.00 in DJ equipment.

November 16, 2020 (Ramsey Road): The resident reported that at 4:42 AM, three males were observed walking up their driveway and attempted to enter three vehicles. Only one vehicle was unlocked. The suspect was only able to steal a generic key. Surveillance images showed only three males, no further description.

November 16, 2020 (Briar Hill Road): The resident reported that his unlocked vehicle was entered during the overnight hours. Nothing was stolen but the vehicle was rummaged through.

November 16, 2020 (Walnut Street): The resident reported that his Ring Camera alerted him that an unknown person just removed a package containing dog food from his front porch. Responding officers were able to locate the package which had been discarded by the suspect.

November 17, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that while conducting business inside of TD Bank, she lost or misplaced her wallet. Shortly thereafter, a teller located the wallet, however it was missing approximately $40.00. Surveillance images show a black female, 50-60 years old, approximately 5'6” tall, short hair, wearing a black hat, holding a cane and wearing a knee brace, pick the victim’s wallet off of the floor and leave the bank.

Vandalism

November 14, 2020 (North Willow Street): The complainant reported that he parked his pickup truck on North Willow Street and when he returned to it an unknown person(s) shattered the rear cab window. It is unknown what was used to shatter the window. Nothing is reported missing.

Attempted Robbery

November 14, 2020 (Pine Street): The victim reported that while walking north on Pine Street from Glenridge Avenue, he noticed he was being followed by an unknown male. The suspect pushed the victim and attempted to grab his cellphone but was unsuccessful and fled. The suspect is described as a black male, between the age of 30-40, approximately 5;10”-5’11” tall with short dark hair.

Arrest

November 15, 2020 (Church Street): Following a motor vehicle stop, Ms. Shakelia Mitchell (27 year old, Cassopolis, MI) was charged with Receiving Stolen Property after it was determined that the vehicle she was operating had been reported stolen from Little Falls, NJ earlier in the day. Mitchell also had an open warrant out of Indiana.

November 17, 2020 – November 24, 2020

Theft

November 18, 2020 (Summit Avenue): The resident reported observing a FedEx truck arrive at her residence to deliver a package. When she went to retrieve the package a minute later, she observed an unknown male taking the package and running to an awaiting vehicle. The suspect was described as a thin white male, late teens to early twenties, tall, with dark hair, wearing all dark clothing. The suspect vehicle was described as an older model maroon sedan, possibly with New York plates. The vehicle fled towards Grove Street. The victim later stated that her PayPal account had been compromised, and that someone had used her account to order
$2208.00 worth of merchandise from Neiman Marcus. It would appear that the suspects were tracking the package and had come specifically for it.

November 21, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported misplacing her wallet while at European Wax Center. When she returned the wallet was no longer there. The wallet was valued at approximately $30.00 and contained $30.00 in cash and various cards.

Theft from Motor Vehicle

November 20, 2020 (North Mountain Avenue): The resident reported that their unlocked vehicle was entered and a change jar containing between $5-$10 in change was stolen. Surveillance video shows an individual rummaging through inside the vehicle at 0607 hours. The suspect is wearing a puffy jacket and what appears to be a wool hat. The suspect is inside the vehicle for approximately thirty seconds and then continues to walk towards Valley Road.

November 21, 2020 (Walnut Street): An unlocked vehicle was entered during the overnight hours while parked in a Walnut Street parking lot. A wallet and its contents were the reported proceeds.

Assault

November 20, 2020 (Mission Street): The victim reported that he was approached by an unknown female while he was standing on his front porch. The female physically assaulted him by pushing and striking him with her fists. He was uninjured and denied medical attention.

Strong Arm Robbery

November 23, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reported that while riding his bicycle on Bloomfield Avenue in the area of Mission Street he was attacked by an unknown person who assaulted him and stole his cellphone and Apple airpods. The suspect was described as a black male, thin build, dark skin, approximately 18 - 19 years old, between 6’0 and 6'02 tall with short dark hair, wearing a black puffy coat and dark pants. This suspect was also wearing a black ski mask with only the eyes cutout. He was last seen fleeing south on Mission Street.

Arrests

November 18, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): David Blakely (30 y/o, Montclair) was charged with Simple Assault after police were called to the Exxon Gas Station on a report of a physical disturbance outside of the station. Blakely was also found to have open warrants out of Montclair.

November 19, 2020 (Watchung Avenue): James Aguiar (29 y/o, Montclair) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

November 20, 2020 (Grove Street): Francisco Saldanachavez (52 y/o, Montclair) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop.
