September 29, 2020 – October 6, 2020

Thefts

September 29, 2020 (Hillside Avenue): The complainant reported that a letter containing personal documents that had been delivered to his residence had been opened and the contents had been stolen.

October 1, 2020 (Valley Road): The security manager for Acme Supermarkets reported that multiple shoplifting incidents have occurred over the course of the last week. Surveillance video depicts the same suspect enter the store on four separate occasions and removes a total of approximately $1500 worth of groceries. He is described as a black male, 40-50 years of age, approximately 6’02” tall.

October 1, 2020 (Park Street): The complainant reported that over the course of two days, an unknown juvenile male used a stolen credit card to purchase approximately $70.00 worth of food.

October 1, 2020 (Park Street): The victim reported that he locked his $1300 bright green Cannondale Trail Mountain Bike Hybrid to the bike rack outside of the YMCA. When she returned an hour later the bike was no longer there.

October 3, 2020 (Lloyd Road): Two juvenile males reported that they left their bicycles unsecured near the fence to Montclair Kimberly Academy High School. When they returned the bikes had been stolen. They were described as a Giant road bicycle colored blue, no approximate value and a Giant mountain bicycle colored black with unknown approximate value.

October 5, 2020 (Essex Street): The victim reported leaving his Gray Schwinn men's Standpoint Mountain bike unsecured at Woodman Field. When he returned 90 minutes later it was gone. The victim stated that the bike valued approximately $400.

Miscellaneous

October 3, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): Montclair Police and representatives from the Montclair Health Department responded to Cuban Pete’s Restaurant and Tapas after receiving multiple complaints regarding the business violating Governor Murphy’s Executive Order regarding indoor dining. The Health Department personnel conducted a head count of patrons eating indoors and determined the restaurant was in violation of the order as the number of people eating inside exceeded the number based on the 25% occupancy order. The owner, Domenic Restaino, was cited for Violation of Executive Order 183.

Arrests

October 1, 2020 (Claremont Avenue): Stephanie Moore (35y/o, Bloomfield, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated stemming from a motor vehicle stop.

October 5, 2020 (Pine Street): Edward Hassen-Bey (47y/o, Montclair, NJ) was arrested on outstanding warrants from Montclair.

October 6, 2020 – October 13, 2020

Theft from Motor Vehicle

October 6, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that her unlocked vehicle was entered between 9:30 AM and Noon. She reported her clutch bag containing credit cards was stolen. Approximately $1100.00 in unauthorized charges were attempted on the cards at various vendors.

October 9, 2020 (Pleasant Avenue): The complainant reported that his vehicle was entered during the overnight hours. A checkbook and a watch valued at $75.00 were stolen.

October 10, 2020 (Union Street): The complainant reported that his vehicle was entered while parked outside St. Lukes Church. The vehicle was rummaged through but nothing appeared to be missing.

Theft

October 6, 2020 (South Park Street): An employee of Leone’s Restaurant reported that an unknown person stole her wallet from her purse at some point during her shift. The wallet contained numerous cards and her drivers license.

October 10, 2020 (Clinton Avenue): The resident reported that her black 2011 BMW 335 was stolen from her driveway.

October 12, 2020 (Forest Street): The victim reported that his 1998 Ford Van was stolen while parked in front of Montclair Food Pantry. The vehicle contained approximately $3000 worth of power tools.

Lewdness

October 11, 2020 (Essex Avenue): A juvenile victim reported that while in the area of Essex Avenue and Columbus Street, a black Audi A4 occupied by two males pulled along side of him and the front passenger asked, “Do you know where the nearest basketball…?” The victim reported that he observed the passenger was nude from the waist down. The vehicle then fled north on Essex Avenue. The vehicle passenger was described as a white male in his 50's with gray facial hair stubble. He was reportedly wearing a shirt (unknown color) but was naked from the waist down. The driver was described as a white male, medium skin toned in his 50's, medium build, with brown hair and a dark goatee with some gray hair. October 13, 2020 – October 20, 2020

Motor Vehicle Theft

October 13, 2020 (Essex Avenue): A Honda CRV was stolen from the resident’s driveway during the overnight hours. The vehicle was reportedly left unlocked with the key fob inside. The vehicle was recovered the next morning after a pursuit with Newark PD. Two suspects fled from the vehicle and remain at large.

October 17, 2020 (The Fairway): A BMW X7 was stolen from the resident’s driveway during the overnight hours. The vehicle was reportedly left unlocked with the keys inside. The vehicle was recovered later in Elizabeth, NJ.

October 19, 2020 (Seymour Street): Two vehicles were stolen during the overnight hours from a Seymour Street parking lot. A 2020 Land Rover Discovery and a 2015 Subaru Forrester were parked next to each other and discovered missing the next morning. The Land Rover was recovered on South Willow Street, parked and unoccupied, shortly thereafter.

October 19, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): The complainant reported that her 2018 Dodge Durango was stolen after losing her keys. The vehicle was recovered on Woodland Avenue, parked and unoccupied.

Theft from Motor Vehicle

October 14, 2020 (Washington Street): A security guard at Charles Bullock School alerted a passing police officer that he observed two individuals break into a parked BMW X3. The vehicle owner was located and reported a pair of $350.00 sunglasses and $300 purse were stolen. One suspect was described as having high hair, wearing a black face mask, black shirt with multicolored squares, some of the squares were red. No other description was provided. They were last seen running through the parking lot between Mission Street and New Street.

October 18, 2020 (Maple Avenue): The complainant reported parking her vehicle near Glenfield Park between 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM. The vehicle was left unlocked and was rummaged through. Nothing was reported missing at this time.

October 18, 2020 (Claremont Avenue): The victim reported that her vehicle was entered between October 16, 2020 and October 18, 2020 while parked in her driveway. A $400.00 pair of sunglasses were stolen.

October 19, 2020 (The Crescent): The complainant reported that between 4:12 AM and 4:18 AM and unknown person entered his unlocked vehicle. Approximately $20.00 in cash and an Amazon package were stolen. Surveillance images show the suspect to be wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, a mask (covering his face from his nose down), and dark colored pants and white shoes.

Burglary / Theft

October 14, 2020 (High Street): Two packages containing protein powder that had been delivered to the complainant’s residence were stolen.

October 14, 2020 (Claremont Avenue): The manager at CVS reported that an unknown person entered the store and stole approximately $51.00 worth of merchandise. He was described as a tall thin black male, approximately 17 years of age, wearing a blue baseball cap with "Montclair" written across the front, a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, blue sneakers, black backpack and a white face mask with "Montclair" written across the front.

October 17, 2020 (Heller Drive): The resident reported that his attached three car garage was entered and all his vehicles were entered. Missing from one vehicle at this time are a custom set of golf clubs (set of 14 in a bag) valued at $3,000.00, a shopping bag containing brand new men's dress clothes, pants and pullovers valued at $2,000.00. The remaining vehicles were rummaged through. The suspects also stole the following items from the interior of the garage: a black Sentry safe containing approximately $3,000.00 cash in unknown denominations, seven pairs of unknown men's footwear sneakers valued at approximately $300.00, seven pairs of Oakley sunglasses valued at $200.00, two brown wooden custom Humidors valued at $500.00 containing approximately 600-800 aged cigars valued at $5,000.00-$10,000.00. October 19, 2020 (Hillside Avenue): At approximately 3:27 PM, Montclair Police responded to a Hillside Avenue residence on a report of a burglary in progress. The victim (17-year old female) reported that approximately two hours prior, she encountered an unknown male inside of the residence. The suspect demanded money and when the victim did not comply, she was physically assaulted. Her injuries were non-life threatening however, she was transported to Mountainside Hospital by a family member. Proceeds from this incident are a laptop computer and a cellphone. She described the suspect as a dark-skinned black male, approximately 5'10 to 6'00 in height, very thin bony build, with large hands, big eyes, short black hair and a gap between his front two teeth. The clothing description was all black clothing, which the victim described as raggedy and dirty and he was wearing a standard green colored army camouflage COVID style mask. (The mask fell down briefly for her to identify the gap in his teeth). She also stated he had a large backpack on with what appeared to be a hammer inside of it. This is an active investigation. Arrests

October 14, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): Stephen Clifford (32 years old, Oak Ridge, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop.

October 18, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): Mr. Valery Matheus (40 years old, Newark) was charged with Disorderly Conduct following a dispute on Bloomfield Avenue.

October 17, 2020 (Cambridge Road): Montclair Patrol Units were dispatched to the area of Tremont Avenue and Cambridge Road on a report of a motor vehicle accident. Three individuals fled from one of the involved vehicles. The vehicle that the subjects fled from was determined to be a stolen vehicle out of Bloomfield. Descriptions of the fleeing suspects were broadcast to responding units. After an extensive search, two 16-year old juveniles from Montclair were located and were identified as two of the suspects that fled from the car. They were each charged with Receiving Stolen Property and released to family members.

October 18, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): Mr. Pradeep Reddy (39-year old male from Glen Ridge) was charged with Criminal Attempt Theft following an incident at the Shell Station.

October 20, 2020 – October 27, 2020

Motor Vehicle Theft

October 20, 2020 (Maple Avenue): The complainant reported that her 2015 Dodge Durango was stolen from her driveway during the overnight hours. The vehicle was recovered shortly thereafter, parked and unoccupied, in Bloomfield, NJ

October 22, 2020 (Myrtle Avenue): The resident reported her 2020 Subaru Crosstrek was stolen from her driveway during the overnight hours. In addition, a second vehicle parked in the same driveway was entered and rummaged through. The stolen vehicle was recovered later that day in Newark, parked and unoccupied.

Burglary / Theft

October 21, 2020 (Heller Way): An area resident reported observing unknown individuals inside of a Heller Way residence with flashlights and carrying items from the home. Prior to police arrival, the suspects fled in a white BMW Sedan with a partial New Jersey Temporary Registration of V66311. Entry was gained by force through the front door of the residence. The residents returned and reported a large safe containing approximately $60,000 worth of jewelry, gold coins, and miscellaneous paperwork was stolen. This incident remains an active investigation.

October 22, 2020 (James Street): The complainant reported that her unlocked vehicle that was parked overnight in her driveway was entered. A bag containing quarters was stolen from the armrest of the vehicle.

October 24, 2020 (North Fullerton Avenue): An unlocked bicycle was stolen from the fence of Watchung School Park. The bike was described as a maroon Kink BMX with black handlebars valued at $200.00.

Vandalism

October 21, 2020 (Valley Road): The resident reported that an unknown person let the air out of the tires to her vehicle at some point during the previous week.

October 22, 2020 (William Street): The victim reported that someone shattered the front windshield and passenger side windows to her vehicle. The victim reported observing a light skinned female, 20-25 years of age, “chubby” and wearing jeans running from the area of her car.

Arrest

October 24, 2020 (Bloomfield Avenue): Ms. Sarai Frankowski (33 year old, Verona, NJ) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop.
