Health Education & Resources

Health Education is a required component of a Local Health Department. It consists of education, screenings and programs designed to promote, maintain and improve individual and community health.  A Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) identifies health education needs of the community, and coordinates, designs and implements health programs to meet those needs. The Health Educator can serve as a resource to a variety of community-based organizations.

Health Screenings

Many preventative health screenings and programs (free or low cost) are scheduled throughout the year in collaboration with local hospitals and organizations.

The following are some examples of health screenings and programs that are conducted:

  • Stroke Prevention
  • Glucose and Cholesterol Screenings
  • Blood Chemistry Screening
  • Cancer screenings
  • Nutrition education
  • Driver Safety
