Membership and composition of the Board of Adjustment is established under Montclair Code § 202-12. Members are appointed by the Township Council to serve a four-year term. Members must be residents of the Township of Montclair and members may not hold any elective office nor a position with the municipality. Up to four alternate members may also be appointed by the Township Council to serve a two-year term.
The Board of Adjustment shall elect a Chair and Vice Chair from its members and shall also select a Secretary and Assistant Secretary, who may or may not be Board members or municipal employees. Election of officers is established under Montclair Code § 202-13.
The position of the Board of Adjustment Attorney is established under Montclair Code § 202-14. Employment or contracting for expert staff by the Board of Adjustment is established under Montclair Code § 202-15.
