For Volunteers
and Parade Participants
Preparations have been made for a gala day
on Wednesday, July 4th, and we are proud that you
will be with us.
PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS
CAREFULLY. A parade lineup and map have been provided for
you. Streets used for staging and the parade
route are marked
with a solid line on the map.
The Crescent is
reserved for staging the Automotive Division
and is not to be used as an access route to the
assembly area by other vehicles and marching
groups. South Park will be used only for access
to the Crescent parking deck. Parking for participants
is as follows:
- Plymouth Lot – So. Fullerton
St. across from the library.
- So. Fullerton
Lot – enter from Seymour
St. or So. Fullerton very early.
- So. Willow
Lot – enter on Seymour St.
and walk thru So. Fullerton Lot.
- Fullerton
Deck – enter from No. Fullerton
or Park St.
- Crescent Deck – enter from
So. Park St. Please note lot will be free
between 8 am – 2 pm. You must present
your parking ticket
and parade participant card/ID when exiting. Full price will be charged if you exit
after 2 pm.
Assemble your entry at the location designated
in the line-up. Park all parade vehicles close
to the curb and check in
with your serial marshal. The marshals will be wearing white
4th of July staff tee shirts. After buses, trucks, or other
non-parade vehicles are unloaded, they should proceed to
Central Avenue (near EDGEMONT PARK) to wait your arrival
at the end of the parade route.
Please check the parade line
up sheet and make a note where you are to assemble.
Every group has a designated spot,
which may be different from other years. Please go to the
spot that is indicated. Report to your serial marshal and
make sure they have all the pertinent information that you
were to fill out. This will be read at the reviewing stand
in the exact order you march.
NOTE: The parade will start
at 11:00 a.m. sharp, rain or shine. The parade
route is 1.67 miles long and ends 50 yards
beyond the reviewing stand at Edgemont Memorial Park.
- Float
Contest Entries must be in line by 9:30 a.m. for judging.
- All other units should assemble at 10:00
a.m.
- Be prepared to march at 10:30 a.m., as ranks
will be promptly closed at that time. Late
arrivals will be
placed at the
end of the parade.
- Bands are expected to play on South
Fullerton Avenue, Bloomfield Avenue, Watchung
Avenue, Valley Road (approaching
the reviewing
stand), and several times along Midland Avenue.
A limited repertoire will pose no problems
because your audience
changes.
Rest Room facilities and drinking water will
be available at the assembly area in the United
Way Building,
60 South Fullerton Avenue, at the Montclair Public Library, and in the Edgemont Park
Shelter
House
at the end of the parade route. Each unit should
also carry a container of drinking water for its members
to use en
route. You can purchase refreshments at Edgemont
Park.
RULES OF MARCH
- DO NOT distribute any paper handouts
along the parade route
so as not to cause a litter problem.
- DO NOT ride bicycles or skateboards
in the parade unless
you are with the registered Bicycle Group.
- DO NOT bring live animals either
walking or on display. High temperatures and
the hot asphalt are not in the best
interest of our four footed friends.
- DO NOT delay the forward progress
of the parade. There will be many opportunities
for drill teams or dance
groups to
entertain in Edgemont Park following the parade.
- DO NOT close in on the preceding
unit. Maintain an interval of 25 yards (75
feet). If the unit ahead must
stop, you
stop. Proceed immediately, however, if the
column starts to move.
- NO BULLHORNS OR OTHER VOICE PROJECTION DEVICES WILL BE ALLOWED. Police will confiscate.
- DO NOT use vehicle horns or sirens.
These devices prevent
musical units from being heard.
- DO NOT cover the radiator of your
vehicle with signs or
materials. This will cause overheating.
The
Township of Montclair assumes no responsibility
for accident or injury. Parade participants
assume all risks
and hazards incidental to the conduct of
the parade including transportation to and
from
the parade.
On behalf of the Committees, we thank you and
your organization for deciding to share the
56th Annual
Independence Day
Celebration with us. Thank you for your cooperation. |
